I yawned during the keynote.

I'm sorry Steve.....I didn't mean it!

Oh, and I just wanted to remind you that Kanye was probably asked to perform awhile ago, and since he was asked to do it, it might be because Steve lik......erm..... doesn't "hate" Kanye West music. Notice how he doesn't ask "Fiddy" Cent, Diddy, Mike Jones, or any of those other losers. I don't think its a coincidence that he got someone who doesn't make music that fits stereotypical (c)rap that you hear on the radio today. He got someone who addresses issues in his music; someone who actually talks about things that I also find important (family, friends, how to deal with personal problems that people can actually relate to (not just "Drug deal went bad, cops all over us")......blah blah blah). He didn't just pick Kanye because he's popular.

poor kanye west, not his typical audience.

Ye thats what i wa thinking he wasnt exactly get much outta the crowd LOL......Quite funny how he didnt bother to sensor any of his songs, good performance though considering the circumstances....

I wonder how much Apple paid him to do the show must have been big bucks,

What? Why am I not getting any sound out of the key note.. never had this problem.

A few people have reported that too.

You can fix it in an odd way...

Quit Quicktime.

Open /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup.

Select the Audio tab

Set the output to 44100 not 96000 and quit

Try again in quicktime.

Terrible Phone

Sales of songs from iTunes for Artists goes up when they are featured in Apple Ads or Keynotes. Kanye West probably could have done it for free along with Madonna just to help sell music. (Kanye West has the #1 song right now)

I don't think Steve is a big fan of this phone. It reminded me of when he was trying to get a digital camera to work with iPhoto 1.0 and he later threw the camera from frustration. I wanted Steve to throw that iTunes phone at that sleezy Cingular guy after being frustrated with pressing the wrong button.

It would be better to use the new iPod along with your existing phone or a cooler phone.

That is what happen when hardware is not designed by Apple.

Can we expect phone designed by Apple and made by Motorola?

I watch the streaming video when I got home from work.
Stopped though when the rapper started to 'sing'.

Not a keynote crowd - but also no real reaction to the world's worst kept secret about the ROKR (aka looking e398).

Motorola guy - yeah I guess he had to talk...
but the Cingular guy? Sheesh! Hope he isn't invited back again!

Quality of the streaming video did seem better than previous keynotes (I guess thats h264).

Thoughts/Ramblings

Just some thoughts:

Mr. Jobbs seemed a little under the weather or at least not as gunned up as usual. Attribute this to the event not being a part of a larger expo perhaps as the energy level at one of those events is usually much higher. Also consider that these were invited guests of the press (and apparently the development team and Yo Yo Ma).

iPod and iTunes market share numbers do not seem to have changed much. So as they say, "No news is good news."

The new iTunes has already been received with mixed reviews as Apple continues to update the look of their applications. Several requested features have been included but possibly not to the level or expectation of many users.

It appears Apple is banking on smaller is better as the Nano takes on new level of small. Possibly designed for youth, if not young at heart, it appears as if Steve will be switching his glasses more often if he is to use one of these (when does he have time?). Images, calanders, games are all available with the tiny unit but now the screen is smaller than many on cameras. Also consider the ergonomics — especialy if you have big hands.

Madonna is nursing a broken arm and motherhood (or age) has tamed her a bit. One or two quick stabbs a Steve made the conversation lighter than it would have been. Was this Steve showing timidness or a great deal of respect? Apple is very aware how important it is to get the big artists as the competition is starting to ramp up.

Kayne West closed the event with two pieces that were sure to raise eyebrows of anyone who has not listened to them or was totally unaware of the fact that his album and song are in the number one slots in iTunes. Was his invite a socially political move by Apple as some suggest or a company aware of the sales numbers?

Harry Potter can be downloaded from the new iTunes store—at full price. A tempting if not incentive to purchase the set is the limited edition laser engraved Hogwarts iPod. Something every H.P. fan wants? We'll see.

All in all the event was average. Apple seems to be peaking and needs to continue to develop new products to keep people interested (an issue for most companies) and they are doing it somewhat with new partnerships. Some weakness in the market, rumors about suppliers, and news from Windows world may be forcing the uncharacteristic early announcements and lite upgrades made by Apple. The next year will be a telling year for the company and its user base.

Earlier this year, at the All Things Digital conference, someone put it to Steve that cell phones would take over from dedicated players. He said he understood the question and would answer it with Apple's future actions.

I think going nano-sized is that answer. The phone will not be able to get that small (for a while) because of all the radio gear it needs. Notice that when he was comparing to all the other MP3 players, he also compared to the thinest cell-phone.

Meh - iPod...

Now that the nano has been released, what's a bet the other iPods will become obsolete and we will all end up buying nanos.

They are stocking stuffers for xmas. I'll pass thanks...

I'd say Steve needs to come to terms with his advancement to bifocals. The changing of glasses started to get kind of distracting, and bifocals would let him be a lot more smooth about it. :)

Maybe he'll develop a new Apple product along those lines... ;)

"Oh, ONE MORE THING.... Have you ever noticed how annoying it is to have to constantly switch your glasses all the time? Our team of top-notch optical engineers have developed a revolutionary approach to the problem. Introducing... iFocals!"

Meh....
Pretty dull IMO.
iTunes phone...ugly
iTunes 5...ugly
Cingular guy...ugly
Motorola guy...boring
Maddona's interview...pointless
No mention of anything Mac related...disappointing
Streaming quality...poor
Harry Potter iPod...pretty cool
iPod nano...AWESOME
oh i forgot the "performance" at the end...crap

Call my ignorant, but what makes this not a keynote?

Keynote

A keynote address is the kickoff (or otherwise main) address at a conference, etc. out of many other addresses (talks).

This really isn't a keynote because this is wasn't done at a conference. This was a single address done at a single media event.

(directed at others not you Frankie)

Folks stop calling it a keynote. Just because Steve showed up does not make it a keynote.

Yeah, I was thinking along those lines too - I was initially thinking "iSight", but then I remembered that one is already taken... ;)

Thanks, I had exactly the same problem
I'm happy now :D

Anyone else think the Cingular guy is a total sleaze? Just reminds me of a used car dealer.

Well at least he did seem friendly (if a bit too much). At least he wasn't politician-boring like the Motorola guy (who seemed to read news in short sentences instead of speaking to an audience).

Steve didn't seemed too happy with the interface of the phone, either (he looks like he want to just throw that thing away).

Again, I think Steve was just preoccupied with the iPod nano in his pocket, thinking about how much better its interface is than the phone he was holding at the time... ;)

Well, Steve does use Keynote to run the event.

And as far as I can tell, he used Keynote 3 (new slides and objects transitions). I want Keynote 3! (maybe announced at Paris Expo?)
