Beatles Cocktail

apple's cocktail + Beatles remastered + tablet
the news of what cocktail is all about seems perfect

Think about it - when the tablet ships, Apple wants there to be lots of software already available for it. In order to get developers working on the software in advance, they have to let them know the screen size, some of the key features, and release an SDK.

This is the perfect opportunity to pre-announce it, with all the info that developers need to get cracking, but keeping just enough info secret to make it splash when it hits the market (just in time for xmas? or a certain January show?)

How far in advance was the iPhone announced before it shipped?

I hate to say it, but you are probably right. Assuming the tablet is real (which I'm still not thoroughly convinced of, although mainly because I'm having trouble identifying a target audience beyond gadget-heads), they will need to pre-announce it here if they plan on shipping in 2010 with any amount of 3rd party dev support.

However, that does also assume that Apple decided that it needs 3rd party apps on the device when it ships, and that current 3rd party AppStore apps wouldn't be good enough. Remember, there were zero third party apps on the iPhone when it shipped, and it seemed to do pretty well.

That could be a possibility. Maybe as a "One More Thing."

Well, if there is anyone who can make a media event on the iPod exciting at this stage in its development, it's Steve. I'm thinking it will be a big finger twirl though.

No Tablet Announcement?

i don`t think so!

Mac OS X on it, not the iPhone OS !

may be you could be a bit open minded and think things could change?

Maybe you should try telling Steve Jobs that.

Its not about being open minded, its about being realistic. In reality, businesses don't run like that, especially Apple. Apple does things a certain way and thats just how they operate, bottom line. Theres not going to be a OS 4.0 preview no matter how much you want to see it. They haven't even released 3.1 yet. Just use your brain. Everything you've said in this thread has been borderline retarded.

I swear some of you guys just don't seem to get it at all, or really have no clue how Apple does things. Most of your guys' "predictions" sound more like a wish list.

Wow. Could you be any more gullible? Thats horribly fake. Not just the Leopard intro screen being ripped straight off Google images, but the terrible photoshop of just a first gen iPod Touch stretched out.

.......seriously lol @ some of the posters here

I wonder if this will be as sleep inducing as last year's "Let's Rock!" event?

I think it will. How much can they milk a camera in the Nano and the Ipod Touch and a few social features in iTunes to fill up an hour or even two of a keynote?

I sincerely hope there is something we don´t yet know about, because if it is only this, then I think there is no justification to organize a whole event around it.

I personally hope that Apple is planning to enter the e-book market with the tabled and sell the books via iTunes over a collaboration with maybe Amazon (Bezos has confirmed that they will not block third parties from taking advantage of the e-book library that they have). There also have been rumors that the tablet will take some of the function of the AppleTV, and why not? With the right ports, it could function as a DVR or Mediahub for a TV.

I guess those last two functions would justify discussing it at the iPod and iTunes event.

A tablet incorporating these two functions would make me buy it in a heartbeat.

Lets all get back to reality. Heres whats going to happen.

Most likely Phil Schiller will come on stage and do this years keynote. He will briefly talk numbers and sales and market share crap. First he'll introduce iTunes 9 and go over all the new things to it. Possibly bring up this new "cocktail" feature while he's going through iTunes 9. Then he'll talk iPod classic, probably drop the price 50 dollars or increase storage or even stop producing them altogether. Then he'll talk iPod nano, and introduce the next gen nano with a camera and possibly other small features. Then he'll talk about iPod Touch and the incredible success of the app store, and announce the latest download numbers etc. Then he'll introduce the next generation iPod Touch with the same upgraded internals in the 3GS and now a built in camera and microphone. He will then show us the latest iPod nano and iPod Touch ads. Then special guest performance, perhaps something Beatles related. He will wrap everything up and thank everybody for coming out to the event. Shows over.

Done. Thats it. Quit thinking Apples going to do all kinds of crazy things. Its not going to happen. Nobody here seems to know their Apple history.

I almost expect the presence of a camera in the touch and nano to be a two or three minute aspect only - literally on the lines of "and it also includes a camera - we did our research and we found that people liked cameras on their phones, but their phones typically didn't have the storage space available for them to make use of it effectively, so we built that right in, integrated with iTunes and iPhoto, next ..."

So yes. New iPod Touches, undercutting the Zune HD with a 64GB option as well (they can afford to undercut if the average user will spend money on the app store and itunes which are ultimately "low revenue" services for Apple, so they can put their cut of sales towards being price competitive). I also presume that these new touches will support HD video out, if you buy a supporting dock. No OLED display though, I suspect (maybe on the nano).

New iTunes, more of the same, hopefully fully Cocoa this time around.

What else? Maybe something related to the iTunes Store. There's the dull 15 minutes of self-congratulation at the beginning. Plenty of time for something new - maybe a new Apple TV in the form of a dockable tablet that is part of your media setup ;)

I mostly agree with you, except I think the Apple TV may finally get an update as it is long overdue (about 3 years).

I cant believe the amount of people who actually believe that a tablet will get released anytime soon, let alone be anounced in a couple of weeks.... at an itunes and ipod presentation no less.

Its borderline retarded how people eat some of the **** up posted on this site.

There are rumors stating this to be the case (although latest rumors indicate an early 2010 introduction), and we discuss these rumors on this board, because that´s what it´s there for. Everyone is entitled to their opinion to them and to speculate about them in their own way, as long as they adhere to the forum rules.

It would serve some of you well to learn some respect and manners towards other people on this board. If you are offended by the apparent stupidity of the people here, I suggest you join Mensa or cure cancer and aids or something, but quit bothering us here with your condescending way of posting.

I remember people saying that about the Mac Mini a few weeks before every Apple event, whatever event it might be.

Don´t hold your breath.

Trust me, I'm well aware of Apple's history with the Mini, and many were surprised it didn't see an update at Macworld '09 given all the rumors.

But this is a likely event where the Apple TV can be discussed, since it was originally introduced at the September iPod Event as the iTV in '06 and the hardware has never changed since (outside of the 160gig option). It is in dire need of a new processor and graphics chip, let alone new features.

But alas, nothing may come.

Why? A tablet in Apple's vision is most likely going to be targeted at specific functions, including media playback, so in some ways it does fit in. If it was mentioned, it would be a preview however, so that developers could adjust and tweak their App Store applications for the new device's specifications. But I wouldn't say it was more that 30% likely.

However one major issue is that it would drown out the new iPods, new iTunes features, etc.

I´m with you. I have a 160 Gig sitting in my cupboard whirring and waiting for an update to expand the features..
