Agreed. Even the September event is usually focused on iPods, I'd love to see a new version of both iLife and iWork rolled out.

The curious thing is that in recent years Apple has held two fall events, one for iPod, one for Mac. iPod is usually in Sept., Mac in Oct. But Apple's Mac lineup is either recently updated or mid-life cycle. The only really creaking product is the MBA -- which who know if that model isn't going to be EOLed all together. So it seems there really is no reason to hold a Mac event -- so when would be the time to launch iLife/iWork '11?

My hunch is that either Apple is going to work it in w/ the iPods, i.e., 100% interoperability b/t the iApp, iWork.com, and Mac versions and will use that to announce it or it will just be a soft launch and magically show up on the site one Tues. But I think the former b/c if it's just a soft launch then that means nothing exciting and if there is nothing exciting why even call it new.

What is it you feel requires 64 bit about the current version of iTunes ? And why do you feel a complete rewrite is in order ?

iTunes is sluggish because it handles too much. I have a several terabyte library, and with large libraries iTunes is not great.

A 64-bit cocoa version will be much faster than the current 32-bit carbon one.

Also, iTunes lacks multi-core support. Encoding CDs should be substantially faster once Apple adds in this. Apple has been pathetic at multi core support across almost all of its apps, including final cut pro.

You're not being clear.

What about this requires a full rewrite ?

I have doubts with Labor Day and all.

Me too. With Labor Day being on the Monday there is no way they are going to get a crowd of reporters on hand bright eyed and bushy tailed on that Tuesday. Many would have to travel on Labor Day to get there. Like that's gonna happen.
It could be later in the week possibly Friday but I'm thinking that earlier report that said the 14th is more likely.

converting video's is something some people do with iTunes, and considering most other apple apps are now 64bit it doesn't seem too unreasonable a request...

I could care less about the iTouch, it amazes me that people want to carry that brick around looking for wifi spots

Brick? It weights 4 oz.

This event should be huge. I expect a wide range of innovative new products that should drive AAPL shares through the roof.

I'm expecting:
New MacBook Pros
New MacBook Airs
New Apple Cinema Display
New iPods (who cares)
New iPod Touch (awesome 4G design)
New Apple TV (no storage, no buy for me)

You could be disappointed. MBPs are mid-life right now. Personally I don't expect anything until Jan. MBAs a possibility IF Apple isn't discontinuing the product. Cinema Display has already been announced. If Apple goes any bigger on a glossy screen then it would likely have AppleTV built-in too. I have a feeling Apple only has the CD now b/c they need something for the MP. I think they'd like to get out of the dumb monitor biz and get into the TV biz. This is the transition and why a perfectly fine size like the 24" was discontinued.

new ipod touch, finally!

I hope to god they don't pull another 3rd gen iPod touch where only the mid-end and top-end models got upgraded. Hopefully they sell the new touch at the increased 16gb capacity for the price of the current 8gb.

For the low end, they will be selling the current 32G/64G Touch with either 8G or 16G.

Will it have a retina display? if so i might just switch to a proper phone + iPod touch setup henceforth since it really is an iPhone without the cellular chip.

new body redesign

I dont think they will pull another 3rd gen model spec difference because hopefully they will redesign it therefor makeing the third gen unuseable as it may not look the same as the new 4th gen might. And though it hasnt been proven, those supposed new lcd digityizer screens for the 4th gen are a bit different shape which could be leaning towards a redesign.

This is just what i think so i mean it not proven yet but well see

If you're on a Mac and use Snow Leopard, you would know how much better and quicker the 64-bt apps are. iTunes is also written in Carbon, which is an older way to code for Apple.

Apple complained that Adobe didn't use Cocoa to write its programs, but yet Apple still has half of its own apps poorly written. It's pathetic.

I wonder if the UK will be let down again with iTV. Episodes certainly won't be as cheap as USA at 99$! and that's only if they get the rights to sell worldwide.

Dude - you don't even know the meaning of let down. They released Apple TV in Japan about 3 years ago. In that time, the device has been blessed with exactly NOTHING in terms of content. That's right. Not one TV show. Not one movie. Absolutely nothing. The only thing you can do with it is watch Youtube or look at your photos. One of the biggest **** ups Apple has ever produced in this country,

I'm intruiged by the so-called iTV, which never ever ever will be called that.

This just get interesting. :)

I think Apple wants to get as many FaceTime units in the wild as public so I don't see them releasing a new Touch w/ no FT. The memory costs more than the camera. More likely to see a lower cost 8GB Touch w/ FT.

Sure but most of us though "iPad" was an idiotic name too when the rumors about tablet names hit the net. What do we know.

Oh, you think iTV hasn't copyrighted their name? It's a 50 year old broadcasting network. They would put so much litigation up Apple's asses that they could taste the ink in their throats.

I live near a redbox kiosk. I see people pumping discs out of that thing. I will wait for a bluray rental from Netflix or wait if I have to. If a new iTV came out with 99 cent rentals I would vote for its success. There would be no discs or machines to maintain. People do not need a credit card since they can get iTunes cards, and it would give Apple a one up on the other companies that offer digital streaming or downloads that are usually what $4? I used to pay that at a video store but if I am saving the time and money and pumping it straight to my house I would think I could get it a little cheaper?

Lets see iTV...

It's I could NOT care less.
:D

I'm either going to get this OR get a new nano...

...actually I'll get this...it's good for games and wifi.

Yes, it will have a retina display.

And the iPhone is a proper phone.

:D

You're almost right....
