My sources tell me that the new ipod mini (flash) will come in two sizes. 2Gbyte and 4Gbyte. They will come with a new name- no longer called iPod Mini. Certain to receive two broken legs if the name is released.

Yes, the iPod Video is on the slate for announcement. Friends have seen it but they will not give any details (ugh).

Wednesday is not going to be a light-duty announcement centering on some (yawn) new Motorola phone. Rather, it is going to be a "landmark event in the evolution of digital entertainment" according to VIP invitees. All hints point to a content store for video content and updates to Airport Express (video output).

Anybody know of a live feed for the event?

Oh please, firstly that's all crap... and why would they decrease the size of the minis. stupid, sttupid. It'll be how great the stores doing, maybe the Ozstore/some more major artists addedd, here's a phone that can play music (WOW!!) thanks for coming.

It better be bloody good now that there's no stevenote in Paris.

Yeah, you read right, NO PARIS KEYNOTE.

Well I dont expect they are going to announce anything too exciting then...

Would they really release a non-hard disk colour ipod mini without fan fair... I wonder if TS is wrong, and that will also be announced this week with the iPhone.

Where did he say that the iPod Mini wasn't getting an 8GB Hard Drive makeover. It'd make sense given the 2GB and 4GB iPod2Go (I made that up) won't be getting the iPod Mini name.

iPod Mini - like a smaller iPod –*$199 6GB, $249 8GB
iPod2Go - like a larger Shuffle (wider with added OLED screen) – $169 2GB, $199 4GB
Shuffle - like a stick of gum – $69 512MB, $99 1GB, $149 $2GB

However this would mean 4 lines of iPods ... surely this is getting confusing, and there'd be price overlaps as well.

I don't believe this. It makes no sense why Apple would
replace the 4GB and the 6GB with two new models with only
2 and 4GB ???

Honestly, there is so much focus on the new
Flash "nano" that I can't get much hard news on what is happening to the Mini. It makes sense to do away with the 4G Mini, though. Maybe re-intro the existing mini with color screen.

Top brass at big box US retail have been shown the new hardware. It will be a recordbook Christmas for Apple.

Guess we don't have to wait that long (Wednesday!) to find out the real story.

PS>> at least they didn't call it the iPod Flea.

Well, if they announce that, i'll buy you one myself....in fact i'll buy one for me!

No, if they come out with 2 and 4GB flash iPod, they will sell alongside the other iPods, and the Mini would continue.

There was another rumor about the regular base iPod moving to 30 or 40 GB. The Mini could move to say 6 and 8GB, or eventually higher. So there could be room for these multiple lines.

It's okay if there's price overlap, it just gives the customer more choices. Do they want mobility over capacity, or vice versa, etc...

It's:

New iPod shuffles, still no screen but bigger capacity.

New iPod minis, with screen but flash memory instead of Hard disk.

New iPod movies, as iPod photo was the 'special' range and they've become standard iPods, so we need something to take that place.

New Motorola iPod phone, Apple wrote at that Moto media event they would be out within 66 days.

New Airport Express + AirTunes, 5.1 Support? That's more HD than Stereo and it is the 'Year of HD'.

New Apple iTablet/iTunes controller - So one can control their music on the fly. Wall mount it. Etc.

This would make the sept 7th event really a repeat of 2001 event and make the invitation more up to the expectations.... so, this all come into place on why Apple did cancel the keynote for Paris Expo...

The iPhone is a sidenote to the main event.

I just finished watching the MWSF 2005 keynote (it's a slow monday afternoon) and before announcing the iPod Shuffle, Steve Jobs SHOWS the Motorola E398 saying it is one of the iTunes phones and it will be available in spring 2005. Highly doubt he is going to talk about a phone that MISSED his own shipping date and is just a slightly updated version of one of Moto's old models.

Nothing to see here...move along.

Now unless Apple suddenly changed gears and designed their own phone in-house...there is nothing big about this phone and there is something else coming on Wednesday.

not to you and me, no. but to Joe Public who loves his mobile phone and really wants to listen to Maroon 5 he can now! with the ease of use of an ipod! wooow!!!!

It would be nice if the Cingular announcement also included an agreement to include EDGE modems as a BTO option in future PowerBooks.

Agreed. And I also don't think they'd make a big deal about the iPod Mini's switching to Flash Memory. It's gotta be the iPod Video. I remember listening to a Podcast a few months back where Apple was in talks with Disney about licensing video content.

Not a hoax no, just somebody hoping to be first in line for content should a video enabled iPod arise.

I too think that a video iPod would have to support H.264 - be a great way for Apple to get H.264 content into the mainstream before the arrival of HD stuff, not too many people are aware of the format yet so somebody needs to get it out there in the public eye.

What time is the event scheduled for tomorrow? I am going to be so disappointed (especially after Keynote), if all we get is a moto phone with iTunes on it!
