I REALLY like the idea of Apple putting out their own phone. One that seamlessly syncs to my computer, has a basic PIM and, oh yeah, play a few songs. I have a Treo and I am less than pleased with its integration. And even less pleased with the MP3 player. Smartphone seem to sacrife functionality in order to get all the bells and whistles in it. But if anyone can do it, it would be Apple. Com'n Apple... Make my dreams come true!!

we've seen MacMinis, iMacs, PowerMacs, iPod Minis, iPods... will we be seeing PowerPods? Who knows...but I'm sure it will be great!

You're right. A colour screen mini is hardly revolutionary, but then again the itunes phone isn't either. Perhaps we'll see an Apple branded itunes phone? Maybe not...

I reckon it's the iTunes/iPod/Apple Phone.

There already were mp3 players before the iPod showed everyone how to do it right. I presume Apple are suggesting the new products are as 'revolutionary' as the first iPod.

How they do that with Motorola's crappy phones and crappy software I have no idea though. It really needs a new phone and a new phone OS not just a copy of iTunes and a couple of buttons on the front of a Moto phone to be an Apple product worthy of the name. Otherwise I'll stick with my Sony Ericsson p910i phone, OggPlay and SymbianOS.

iTunes for Symbian phones would be nice though and would run on most of the phones that are capable of playing aac/mp3 already. Add a phone 'shuffle' and it'd save me having a 512MB smartlist in iTunes and copying that to a memory stick by hand.

iTunes 5... ???

This could be big. However, I think it is safe to say that the Video iPod will ship with iTunes 5. Will Apple put iTunes in with iLife 06 to raise the hype factor for Macworld? Or will it release it early to boost the iPod buzz up for the holidays again? Who knows.

One thing is clear: This is going to be big.

Question:

Let's say it is a new iPod video. I just bought a 60 gig iPod two weeks ago WITH applecare. What are my options if I want to get the new iPod? Can I just take my ipod photo back and get the new ipod (obviously it will be more expensive, so I'll have to throw down some cash too).
My question is will they just let me return my ipod with some extra cash in exchange for a new pod? Does my iPod have to be broken for this to happen?

It'll be the 'Mighty iPod'.

Like the current one but with squeezable sides and g-spot training tool. Get it right and it sings. :D

After 2 weeks, your window to return it is gone. (You would have paid a restocking fee).

My birthday is in October. I was gonna hit the wife up for a nice set of congas, but maybe it'll be whatever Apple unveils on the 7th, instead.

Ugh. I don't even know what it is, but I already want it. I need help.

But if you look at the way the current line up looks, every particular line of iPods has 2 Models. Maybe the 80gb would be available immedieately and the 100gb Pre-Order?

You right about that. But have there been any reports of the 100GB drives being available?

no new ipod

I dont think this is about a brand new iPod per say. but maybe to the Motorola iTunes phone; the remake of the e398 with 1 extra button - 8 months for that design is pathetic as that phone is essentially 3 years old already.

My god I cannot believe nobody mentioned this. GAP, has a sale here in Canada that if you just TRY ON their jeans you get a coupon redeemable for 1 free download at iTunes Music Store!!! The invitation on this event says a pair of jeans; seems like Jobs' personally relationship will help GAP store marketing director with back to school sales. Thats my bet! GAP & iTunes! No new iPod, maybe not even a new mention of Moto's iTunes premature phone.

@aegisdesign, stick with Symbian OS; you'll be much happier with what UIQ3 will offer should SE make a successor to the P910. Me I'm waiting for the Nokia N70 to hit our shores.

Its gotta be a separate, non-ipod thing. i've always thought that video playing would be separate from the ipod line. According to the tagline, its an entirely new thing, and making anything remotely based on the iPod wouldn't make sense. Good thing i didnt spend that $499 yet! It's either:

another newton:
We know apple's good with small things.

a video playing device thats not an ipod:
maybe just a giant touchscreen.

both

a tablet mac...

OSX for pcs

Last Year it was Photo, This year it's Video,

But what is NEXT year?

Makes Sense.
Next Year:
iHolopod

Seriously, I cast my predictions with the itunes phone. I might look into one as long as it works well. I could use a flash player for working out.

100gb Video iPods with WiFi connectivity built in so I can stream music to my Airport Express.

You know I would have considered the Sony W800 if it had itunes capability. That for what it does isnt bad. Sure better lookin than apple/moto thingy. Lets hope that phone isnt what is announced, I'd like to see something else there. So Yo homie Jobs take note!

i think: HD videoPod AND iTunes phone, both with bluetooth

You maybe on to something there. What about some sort of wireless connectivity for the iPod?

I like 'vPod' rather than 'iPod video'. My bet is that if it comes it will be a different product line.

Re: Gap and iTunes offer

Then what about jeans with iTunes built in? No, wait, jeans with the new iPod Video Phone built it! They come complete with the new, improved, reality distortion field!

OMG!! Best iPod Video Phone Pants evar!!!!!111one111!!!!!!

movie store + Airport Express receiver for TV?

I think a video iPod is inevitable - but what about an Airport antenna that hooks up to a TV?

Think about it. Apple is definitely moving in the direction of selling video on the iTunes store. But most people would prefer to watch this video on their TVs, not on thier computer screen. Airport Express definitely has enough bandwidth to stream video - why couldn't you just stream video from your Mac to the TV? All you'd need is some kind of Airport receiver with video outputs built in.

Now take it a step further: what if this Airport/TV adapter had video *input*. And what if you added DVR capabilities? The kicker is that the hard drive for this DVR would be an iTunes-equipped computer. Think about it - you could "subscribe" to shows like you would subscribe to podcasts now.

So this would really be variation of the Apple set-top box rumor. Instead of being a full-fledged stand-alone set-top box, it would really just be an Airport-enabled conduit from your TV and/or cable box to your iTunes-equipped computer (hopefully a Mac).
