what about.... [Drum roll] .... the PowerPod

Not sure about that one. The Mac and iPod lines completely different and there would be reason in trying to link them with some sort of correlating naming scheme.

Been Thinking...

I think we can rule out the iTunes phone being the main attraction. That's Motorola's business. A color iPod mini could happen, but it wouldn't be the only new product. That leaves... iPod video with iFlicks. For Mac + PC.

Oh yeah, the 5G iPod might happen, but I think that's for MWSF.

The Power prefix is related to Apple's professional products is old. But it works because it gives those products a sense of reliability and permanence. It would be a strange step to try to associate the iPod with something that is more traditional. Apple markets the iPod as a hip and fashionable, relating it will their professional products wouldn't make sense at all.

The Mac Mini was an attempt to reinvigorate the Mac by associating it with fashionable iPod.

My Exact Thinking as well.

It's a Moto. Phone, so Let Moto. Announce it, then Apple can always talk about it at a future keynote/event when they recap things that have been recently released.

an Apple Media Event, is for Apple Products, not for products by another Company.

Question:

Let's say it is a new iPod video. I just bought a 60 gig iPod two weeks ago WITH applecare. What are my options if I want to get the new iPod? Can I just take my ipod photo back and get the new ipod (obviously it will be more expensive, so I'll have to throw down some cash too).
My question is will they just let me return my ipod with some extra cash in exchange for a new pod? Does my iPod have to be broken for this to happen?

I tried this in early 2002 when they released the 10GB iPod (man those were the days :D) and your iPod would need to be in damage in order to get a replacement. I say be happy with what you have, and your iPod will eventually malfunction (at least I have bad luck with iPods...) and you'll be able to get a replacement. Just don't commit fraud, or SJ will come after you. ;)

I really hope Apple has something big planned, and isn't just hyping a non-event. I'm not sure they want to go too high end with the iPod anymore since they have the Mac mini down at the $499 price, so perhaps we'll see a new device entirely.

What criteria must be met to get a replacement ipod? My friends told me his brother broke his accidentally and Apple replaced his 20 gig B/W with a 20 gig color! Jeez talk about cheating the system.

On the other hand I know someone who dropped theirs and broke the HD and had to buy a new one... So anyone know how this works?

That looks like it's extremely easy to dial; so simple, the number pad isn't required! ;)

If the event is about the iTunes phone, then I really hope they've done the device themselves. Perhaps they've created their own device, but is extending the functionality to other moto phones as we've seen in various documents?

maybe it will be flash-based ipod Mini's with 5gb+ of memory for half the current price! (maybe)

The brother might have told iPod that it was a malfunction, or something like that, whereas the person who dropped theirs and was probably honest couldn't have theirs replaced because it was user carelessness. I've had my iPod replaced a few times and each time I have to tell what happened and Apple is usually a little bit resistant to replacing it (but things like a malfunctioning audio port just aren't my fault...).

Okay, for the heck of it. I just typed in on Google iTunes Phone September 7th into the search bar.

And the Top Hit was for Mac Daily News, They had a Story Posted Last Thursday (8/25) That said Moto was indeed going to announce the Phone on 9/7 but in NYC.

I say, joint announcement. Motorola and Apple bring you... the iPhone.

Available in one delicious flavor: fugly.

Holds 1 MB worth of music.

Battery life will vary. You can listen to music for a day or you can talk on the phone for three hours. If you do both, it goes kaputzki after 1 hour.

It will work with iSync.

And nobody will buy one.

I'm a pessimist about both the iPhone and the iPod Video.

It seems very likely that the event will be used to preview the relationship between Google and Apple's iTunes Music Store and the recent promotion being held with The GAP.

Best,
TiBookG4/5

Not that this would happen, but I would almost prefer bluetooth buds over anything else that could be announced. Bluetooth buds not much larger than standard buds along with a BT Flash Mini or Shuffle would be absolutely unreal.

Ah... just imagine. iTunes 5, with DVD ripper/encoder: Put your DVD in, press import, now you have a watchable movie for your computer/ipod. No more sonic-death-fantasies about going on a 'Mac The Ripper' killing rampage. Finally, converting movies will be EASY. FOR THE FIRST TIME. EVER. EVER!!!!

Put the pieces together. Motorola/mobile deal? Portable video? What could be the connection that ties together both?

I think Apple will cash in on the obnoxious ringtone craze--but targeting the untapped (albeit small) market of COURTEOUS mobile users (the ones who realize there's a silent vibrate mode that doesn't disturb everyone).

Welcome to the new era: video ringtones!!! :)
