Nothing unfair about it at all.

The world will continue to turn just fine, and the music and art will be better, without AI involvement.

Humans rewarding other humans for actually producing art themselves.
Imagine that!
I said hybrid songs (meaning the music, lyrics and music parts) were made original first by humans and you come with "humans for actually producing art themselves" like none of what I said matters because it was assisted with some Al technology.

There's a little more it it than that.

An AI can generate/replicate music because it has been trained on the output of musicians. AIs do not receive royalties for their music. This means it becomes less an less financially viable for a human to be a professional musician. SDO less human-generated music.

In other words, there will be less and less new human-generated music to train the AIs with.

There needs to be funnelling of a percentage of the revenue generated by AI music to fund the continued development of human-generated music.

This goes for all of the arts. Otherwise there will simply be recombinations of the same, and nothing new.
Computer generated music has been around for a longtime. LoFi stations one example, Apple's Garage Band started auto creation in 2009. Today I can easily make music that sounds like any artist , group, or type of music have it create and play endlessly. That threatens the corrupt music business model that has screwed both artists and the public since the 1800's.

Not sure we'll find much to discuss as you seem only and all about "AI".

I notice this is the only thread you've engaged with in any way so far since joining this morning.

Unless musicians are getting paid, it's just another "corrupt music business model".

Listen, I agree that fully generated songs (text to music) should not be taken seriously, I am just trying to make a case for hybrid songs, if you made the music, lyrics, beats, arrangements and play a instrument yourself before using some AI technology, because that still putting in effort to create something as a human.

I understand your position and disagree.
Let's leave it at that.

✌️

Much more important than AI labeling: year of original release, year of remaster, year of remix, live recording, appears on (with links to other albums), upgraded version available (with link to upgraded track).

Fine. We'd all like to avoid our music services being clogged with endless "Hey, AI, make me a 3 minute reggae track about falling in love with a bagel"-type slop.

You just have to write a clear, enforceable, effective definition of what exactly is and isn't "AI garbage". Bear in mind you'll probably have to defend that in court at some stage when a rich AI garbage producer sues you for unfairly banning them from Apple Music.

Too lax, and AI sloppers will work out an end run around it. Too strict and you end up banning the whole sub-genre of "generative music" including Brian Eno, Jean Michel Jarre and even Mozart (allegedly). - which I think was what @expensiveram was referring to.

Does using the automatic drummer track in Apple Logic Pro make your song "AI" - or using AI to add a backing track to your vocal stylings? What about using a Euclidian Rhythm Generator in your synth rack?

It's very easy identifying the sort of thing you want to stop. It's a lot harder turning that into workable rules that don't have unintended consequences.

Something probably does have to be done - but the "something must be done - this is something - therefore we must do this" trap is very real.
Easy: anything made by an LLM tool.

Beethoven is AI for you? Don't worry I know what I listen to !

You’ll laugh, but even I’ve fallen for AI once. Because the music sounded so “typical” at first.

And believe me, it’s your self-confidence that makes you susceptible to AI. Because you “know exactly” what’s real.

Ask yourself: Do you really know all of Beethoven’s pieces by heart and in every interpretation? Are you absolutely sure you wouldn’t call an AI piece, one that “sounds very similar but typical”, real?

That’s the point today. No matter what kind of art we’re talking about.
The problem isn’t the obvious fakes, but the well-crafted mirror-copies.

That is an extremist anti-technology position that will hurt people and do nothing. It’s always the usual suspects who take extreme positions and if you look at their posting history it is full of hatred, conspiracy theories and even pro piracy which has hurt artists more than anything.

Synthetic samples and computer generated sounds have existed in music for 60 years. You are basically advocating for a ban on electronic genres just because some anti-AI mania on the internet told you that it is cool to hate.

AI music isn’t just “Hi bot generate me a song”. It can be a thousand things from generating a beat or an effect or a voice filter. All of these have been used for decades using more primitive forms of AI and computer generation.

This person gets it. AI is just another tool. What’s next? Banning articles written with software? Pooh-poohing music composed with Garage Band? Do we only allow real instruments recorded without modification? This anti-AI stance from Apple Music is a knee-jerk response to more paranoid music execs… you know, the ones who freaked when Napster ate their lunch.

The fact remains: creativity can and always will be enhanced by tools, tools created by other people. In that sense, everything is a human collaboration.

I always check who makes the music, it's written in there ! I can't be wrong?

I’d love this too.

No, those were made by a human. I’m fine with that.

Nonsense. AI garbage is AI garbage. Ban it forever.

There is a world of difference between electronic music sampling and AI - and to pretend otherwise is techno-babble.

No there isn’t. It’s just an evolution. We had to sample by recording. Sound engineers stole sounds from the world around them. Sometimes they outright sampled copyright material without permission. Now we sample by teaching a computer how to simulate the sound.

Logic Pro itself has AI tools built in and more will come, so you immediately lost the argument.

People who resist evolutions in technology always end up with bad arguments and losing positions. They sit their seething with hatred and misinformation, telling outrageous and obnoxious lies so that others cannot learn new things, trying to impose their elitism and backwardness on the rest of us.

How about this really simple option. You have no right to tell what people can or cannot do and if you don’t like what they do you have lots of choice. You can turn away or you can spend your money elsewhere.

But you do not have a right to force yourself on others otherwise dear sir you are asking for a world of pain when people start forcing themselves on you because you said that kind of behaviour is ok.

There’s a huge difference between using samples, synths and some AI workflow tools to create music yourself, and asking a computer to do everything for you, which requires no creativity or talent whatsoever. Just a prompt.

All generated by scraping music stolen from existing musicians.

But, merits or not of using AI to generate a song aside, another issue is the sheer volume of slop that is being churned out is drowning out music written by real humans. Destroying their already dwindling earnings, and potentially limiting the future career choices of genuinely talented young musicians.

A real song can take anything from a few hours to a few weeks to finish, AI can vomit out hundreds of thousands of tracks in that time. What chance does a real musician have against that onslaught?

Previous advances in music have always still required a human to play, manipulate or reinterpret sound, whether through instruments, samplers, or even chopping up loops.

AI is the first time none of that is required, human input is reduced to a text message.

Totally AI generated music should not be allowed on any platform where it actively reduces the income of real people trying to earn a living.

I'm a music producer, I use Fabfilter and Izotope for mixing and mastering. They are not AI plugins but they do use automation. Almost every famous producer uses Fabfilter or Izotope. So, this is going to hurt a lot of musicians by having their music flagged as AI when it's not. Terrible.

I don’t really care, to be honest. If a song sounds good to me, I’ll listen to it. AI, human, three raccoons with a synthesizer, I’m not particularly bothered.

If I want to experience an artist, I’ll go see a band at my local bar, a concert at an arena, or an orchestra at the opera. If I’m just listening to music and enjoying it, I care about what comes out of the speakers, not what went into making it.

Everything has its place.
