Why do you care? Is the song an original song that a person made BEFORE the use of Al tools? That's all I care about. I don't care if the song was done with the assistance of AI, on a MPC, in FL Studio or with a house band. If the writing of the song by a human out of his and her own mind and instruments make me feel good, dance or want to make love to my woman, that's what matters to me.
That's what matters TO YOU. For some reason you have decided that anyone who disagrees with you is a neanderthal who hates all technology.

The problem is with your example that if the AI tools are taking the recordings and "making it better" which you haven't described what that means, and then it is "rearranging" the song then why even record the song yourself depending on what you mean by make it better you might as well just have used a really good prompt and gave it your lyrics.

I honestly don't care what makes you feel good or what music you enjoy but I will stick with reserving the title of art to things that Humans create. If that bothers you to where you have to defend AI instead of just enjoying what you like that says that there is more to it than you are admitting. If not then maybe stop trying to insult people who don't think like you and just go enjoy your music whether it be human or ai created.

If one is a proponent of AI music and/or lots of AI usage in "creation", as @bread6000 seems to be ... they should be in FAVOR of prominently distinguishing and labeling those works.

One should be proud of their AI usage in creation.

If they aren't proud of it and would like to obfuscate the usage of AI, one wonders why that is exactly.

Label it up, distinguish it, allow separating it out if one so chooses.
Let the people decide what they prefer.

We shouldn't be trying to hide AI usage in art creation.

I do not have any personal use for "AI", by that I mean the chatbots, the imaging creation, text creation and music and video creations, and at the same time see how others find it useful for them and I can see some business advantages.
"AI" is not going away, it will continue to grow and some of what "AI" is used for today is plain crap imho.
What I do want is for anything and everything that is "AI" created to be labeled as such so that I/we know and understand. That includes music but all other content you might run into, esp text, images and moving images.

Some people like "AI" generated stuff and others don't and that is ok, after all we are all different, imagine a world where everyone were like me/you, that would be a nightmare.

For Apple to start labeling "AI" generated music is a great step and hopefully others will follow and it will also be applied to other digital content rather sooner than later

Agreed.
I honestly can't come up with any reason to be against this.

Earlier in the thread someone said it was "unfair" to do this and I find that mystifying.

Music made entirely or substantially by or with AI is a different product and should be labeled and separated out. If someone doesn't want others to know AI was involved, I have to question the motives there.

So a person who wrote their own music and play it on a instrument is no longer soulful because it use a AI tool to help it. Ok, like I said you don't like technology and want us to live a the stone ages again.
As long as the AI doesn't work on the majority of the song, then it still has a soul. But if the AI DOES work on the majority of the song, then the song is no longer soulful.

I disagree, because if the song is an original song made by a human out of his or her head and instruments then that's what matters.

You keep mixing around a bunch of concepts.

If a human creates an original song out of their head ... but then "enhances it with AI" -- that is really no longer a song they came up with.

(I'm still not even sure what "enhance the song with AI" even means)

That's a very different thing that using computer technology to aid in the process of creation (digital workstations, usage of samples that you arrange yourself, digital instruments, etc).

This is so clear and easy to understand for most of us here.
I'm not sure why you're having such a hard time with the distinctions.

No, I called people like you out because it is people like you who don't like advanced technology that are pushing companies like Apple to do what they are about to do with no consideration for artists, producers, songwriters and arrangers who use AI as a tool ONLY for their OWN WORKS out of their heads and instruments. and not just generate a bunch of songs by texting on a prompt.

I have NO respect for people like you who only think of yourselves and ideas if how the world should be ran.

If you don't agree with the way music is made, fine but don't call someone songs that they made out of their own heads a instruments "trash" or "not soulful" or "not art" because they didn't produce it the way you think it should be produced and then complain to companies about songs using AI technology because you don't like AI technology.

This is almost the same GARAGE talking points people like you said about Hip Hop 40 years ago because the people in Hip Hop was only using turntables and a microphone while using drum machines and samples to create a song

The music industry doesn't need to get rid of technology, the music industry needs to get rid of and not listening to gatekeepers.
So what is your AI artist name?

Agreed.

Once again why would you care if AI assisted someone with their OWN WORKS?

I am not talking about someone making fully generating songs with just a text but people like you keep putting everyone who uses AI technology as the same type of person.

Yes it is because that person can get their song copy written before any production even starts on that song, with or without AI technology.

WOW!

Who cares what others think?

The topic is about Apple Music, a paid service meant to cater to customers, labeling AI usage in music creation so customers can be informed.

Don't worry about what others think.

You use AI in your music creation. Great!
Be proud of it.

I don't care ... what does that have to do with labeling AI usage on Apple Music, which is a paid service that's not intended for listening to your "OWN WORKS"?
Because of people like you, who will look at a song that is label "AI Generated" and assume that this is some slop with no effort by a person who made it, even though that person might had spent hours, even days crafting that song out of their own head before any AI technology was used. That's why.

You still don't get the point. You are still assuming that there are only two sides: People who hate AI, and people who absolutely love AI.

It's difficult because from me singing alone in my room, to me telling AI to sing this song, and everything in between is a huge spectrum. Some people don't realize that their only disagreement is where along that spectrum they draw the line.

Take your example as point 1 "using computer technology to aid in the process...DAW, samples etc." This can be 1 minor step away from other posters point 2 "enhancing it with AI". In my current project I want a crash to tail off in a certain way and I can't get my DAW-less device to do it. So right now I am at point 1. Wasting a lot of time, too. If I tell an AI tool to "tail off that crash in this sort of way", then I mix that cymbal in (finally got that sound!) I'm at point 2. Or if my track is dry, and I apply a slight reverb I'm at point 1. But if I have AI "apply reverb like such-and-such" I'm at point 2. I'm not sure I could even tell the difference in the outputs! Does going from point 1 to point 2, to me seems like a very small distinction....but maybe to some people that's a step too far?

That's just one example to show why the other poster, or others in general, have a difficult time. I don't see my example here as "a very different thing." It is merely another step along the computer tool spectrum.

I do think it is easy to come up with a crap song 10% and use AI to develop the other 90% of the song. You know like feed in some verses and a melody then "take it away, add a horn section here, etc, and make sure the song comes in at 3 minutes long." That's much further up on the spectrum at a point where many people surely gripe about all the problems (lack of humanity, lack of skill, sounds blah, etc). I'm glad that AI labels will allow me to filter out that sort of content.

Guys .. it's real simple here.

Generative AI is different than all the other mentions of technology

THAT is the difference.

The generative part.
No, it is still just technology, advanced technology. This is no difference other than you thinking that it is going to ruined the world just like people said about other advanced technology before it

This is so depressing ... this entire era now of having to fend off slop defenses.
This is what surprised me in 2026....I went from a pretty tame and useful YT premium, and without realizing it, had a bunch of garbage in my feed and no way to stop it. Like when you search, and the results come up, even if you know the artist is an AI, you cannot "click the 3 dots" and block the channel from coming up.

It has made me drop out of some spheres. If I have found my effort/attention devoted to fending off slop is too high, I'll bail.

AI art is all crap in my view.
I've yet to be impressed by literally any of it.

If you like it, good on you.
I want to always have a way to isolate it and filter it out.
You made my point. It doesn't matter how it's used, you are going to call anything that touches AI technology "crap", no matter how small it is used. I can't win with how you guys think.

What is the difference between normal technology and advanced technology? What is the difference between normal code and advanced code? What is the difference between normal programming and advanced programming? Tell us, we're eager to learn what you want us to believe! 😉

It may be time to take a step back from this thread, you joined yesterday and have only messaged in this thread 25+ times. It is obviously something you are passionate about and those passions are causing you to get worked up in a thread of random people on the internet.

Obviously I am not your dad so do what you want but it doesn't seem like a healthy discussion for you.

"No, no, that's not the point here. You MUST care about others! You MUST be tricked into thinking that everything is created by a human! I'M right and YOU'RE wrong!" How about no? 😉

Wait a few years, and maybe, just maybe, THEN we will take your side?
Once again I would not care what people think these same people did not push for Apple to do this by complain without no consideration about who it is going to effect.

Like I said, I am only defending people in music who uses AI technology as a tool, not ones to mass produced songs with text and make up fake artists.

All Apple is doing is LABELING the usage of AI.
Nothing is being removed. No toggles are being offered to exclude AI music (which is a toggle many of us want).

The only reason to be against labeling is a desire to trick people into listening to AI music.

The service should cater to the paying customers and it's in their interest to know what they are listening to, how it was made, who made it, when it was made, etc.

Don't like having your songs labeled as using AI?
Don't use AI 😉 😀

We are entering an era where many of us will place higher value on fully human created works.
There's an opportunity there actually!

Ok I am done. "Normal technology"? There is no such thing as "Normal technology". It's just technology that adavances aka advance technology.
