That “Spatialize Stereo“ is now gone, and control center now shows “spatial audio not playing”. Same songs as before, but oddly enough, the effect is still active. #bugit.
iOS 15 bug. Not genuine Spatial Audio, but a feature where iOS can fake it, like how some stereos back in the day would take mono songs and fake stereo them.

I have watched a few netflix shows that are definitely spatial. When I put in the AirPods I sometimes have to double check the settings to see if audio is coming from them. Sounds so real because when you move your head the audio still seems to come from the direction of the iPad.
Exactly. That's the spatial audio feature of AirPods Pro that was announced at WWDC last year, and shipped with iOS/iPadOS 14 and a firmware update in September. And it seems a lot of people have experienced this panning/head tracking/binaural interpretation of surround mixes (5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos) effect on music videos provided by Apple Music as well. But it's not the Dolby Atmos versions of audio tracks that seemed to have been planned for launch today.

I think there's a difference between "Spatial Audio" and "Spatialize Stereo".

Spatial Audio is shown for Music that has a Spatial source, whereas "Spatialize" means your device can turn stereo audio into a Spatial form.

It seems iOS 15 can turn stereo into Spatial Audio and then you get a similar effect, but if the source is Spatial, I would expect better results in general.
This makes sense. I hope that when playing Dolby Atmos masters it won't do the head tracking thing, it is awful...

Yes, I think so because I just picked a random old artist album from 2019 and it is definitely moving (voice stays centered on iPad) when I move my head but does not show spatial icon.

It should do the same in voice memos too. Someone on a different thread recorded themselves speaking and then it did it listening back

Installed on my 12 Pro. Same options in control center, same effects.

@ohio.emt since you seem to disagree with my previous post, how about you say why?

No, spatial audio for video content needs airpods because of the head tracking. For music there is no head tracking, and thus any headphone works as it is simply a different mix that gives a more three dimensional sound.
Which totally makes sense to me, but here: https://www.macrumors.com/2021/05/17/apple-music-dolby-atmos-all-airpods-models/

This article had previously suggested other headphones (not all but 'other headphones') would be able to do it as well. Mostly we're talking about people with XM4's (like me) or bose 700 (in other words people that are totally in on apple eco system except the absurd price of the APM).

The one good thing today is taking forever to come out lol. Starting to think it’s been delayed.
Chris Welch (the Verge) says Apple has confirmed it will come today. Probably just server side issues?

Very well could be. I’m just impatient lol. Was completely underwhelmed with the keynote (whole different forum) so I was looking forward to this lol

Not to worry folks, for I have just been re-assured by a Senior Advisor that Spatial Audio will only be available for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. The Senior Advisor also assured me that any other announcements or statements at keynotes were errors that would be corrected shortly.

P.S. Normally I say this tongue-in-cheek, but this time, I’m actually serious - I was just told this. This rollout is such a mess!

I hope someone at Apple didn’t trip over a wire someplace that caused a server to completely erase and we have no spatial audio music now!

Today has been a disappointing day for Apple in general, but as an Apple Music subscriber (Who's annual subscription expires July 31), I think Apple Music has taken a brunt of that disappointment. Apple seems gung ho to release new features, but they make the user interface and just accessibility confusing as heck. It's quite incredible how they do it.

This makes no sense, Spatial Audio for TV/Movies was already limited to these. For Music the Apple website clearly states all headphones will be compatible (to varying degrees) with Dolby Atmos/SA.

There’s a new support article about spatial audio and Dolby atmos

In it there’s a dedicated playlist.
https://music.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=1561370672
I clicked on Taylor Swift and the Dolby Atmos and lossless music logos appeared for a brief second before disappearing again.

It looks like it’s getting ready and they just need to flick a switch to enable it.
