They tried a subscription streaming service that died. They were making money from Apple but that wasn't good enough. It's kind of amazing how in this age of too many subscriptions they think adding another subscription will work.

I read CNN through the Apple News app that I subscribe to. CNN's content is not that vital or unique I can't get it from the other 20 news feeds on Apple News.

I check it daily, and trust its reporting.
You do? Based on their ratings, you're definitely in the minority. Most people have moved on and sought out more accurate and honest reporting. IMO people listen to the news they want to hear to confirm their own opinions and biases. However, CNN's (low) ratings are also a reflection of their stories not squaring with the reality and the facts most people are observing.

More broadly, whilst Apple News does have other great content besides CNN, I won’t be subscribing again. For one, I really hated the advertising for a paid service. And I mean a lot of advertising, and not well curated advertising.

I like Apple News. It’s an easy way to check on what the world’s up to. However, I don’t like partisan, biased “opinion” articles. I just want facts so I can make up my own mind. But then again, when I do think about it, the world is worse than I expected. 😔

Has the existing contract between the two come to an end, or has the feed been pulled because the negotiations for the new contract are not progressing according to CNN's liking?

Lol there's no way in HELL I'm paying for CNN's written articles. I miss the CNN of yore, but they're trippin' if they think people are going to pay this much for their content.
Yep! Exactly. Stopped going to their site as every time I clicked on an article they wanted me to pay for a subscription to view an article that should be free.

As a previous poster said, I blocked them many moons ago because of the biased slant of every article, fewer black boxes in my feed are welcomed. If they are going behind a pay wall good luck, members will be in a very small club.

Everything "àl a carte" one day... but maybe not, maybe just a gel effect oozing in and out "bundles" to "àl a carte" never 100% "àl a carte" never 100% "bundles" yawn and I am SICK-OF-IT! Signing up cancel putting on hold... this is how today's money is made so STUPID! Ever have a newspaper subscription?
🤢🤮

Look here, if you don't pay me more money, I will remove all my trash off your lawn! And I am not putting it back!

The replies here show the loathing that people across the spectrum have for CNN and other corporate/mainstream news sources. Their credibility, accuracy and business models are past the point of saving.

Yet, Apple News, driven by Eddie Cue’s affinity for deal-making with legacy Hollywood and legacy media, continues to force feed these sources to us, along with a glut of ads and paywalled News+ content in an attempt to monetize content that no one wants to read in the first place. Every day “Top Stories” is the same hysterical headlines written by corporate shills doing the bidding of their investors, curated by “editors” who came from those very same publications.

GET RID of CNN, WaPo, WSJ, NBC, ABC, et al and make Apple News a force for good in the culture by giving a platform to emerging independent journalists. Apple has the opportunity to play a role in saving and reforming the institution of journalism instead of keeping the dying corpse of legacy media on life support. Do they have the courage and vision to seize it?

At least Apple TV is TRYING to create original content that’s a cut above the slop churned out by legacy Hollywood (e.g. taking a successful risk on the original F1 script instead of making another sequel or franchise from existing IP). Apple News and Apple Arcade meanwhile perpetuate the lowest common denominator slop that has become typical of the media and mobile gaming industries.

Stop siding with the establishment and do something to give people the fresh and truthful journalism they are craving.

You asked what news feeds people like, twice, and when someone responds you proceed to find a bias against a persons personal preference. Talk about acting in bad faith. Lets critique your preferences, shall we? Everyone has biases and news services are more biased and polarised now more than ever. Bad faith actor man, not nice.

A while ago... After setting up my PiHole, I searched for insights about how to test its efficacy. High on the list (probably number 1) was to visit www.cnn.com. If (no_ads): Then: PiHole == Working. Just checked again, still working. :)

All I did was post a screenshot and link from a site that analyzes the bias across all news platforms.

It is not bad faith to post a link from a site that tries to objectively analyze these things.

I’m happy to post the same analysis of anything anybody suggests!
