American multinational news company CNN has abruptly pulled its content from Apple News, Semafor reports.

CNN quietly removed its stories from Apple News over the weekend and there is no longer a feed from the network to subscribe to in the app. This effectively ends its distribution agreement with Apple while the two sides negotiate new terms. Discussions are apparently ongoing and CNN's content could return if a new deal is reached.

CNN recently launched a paid subscription service and began placing more of its reporting behind a paywall. The network now offers a $29.99-per-year articles-only tier and a $69.99-per-year "All Access" plan that combines written stories with its streaming service.

Major news firms including People and Condé Nast brands have leaned into Apple News, but other media companies have been cautious about adopting the platform since its debut. CNN was present from the launch of the app in 2015.

No loss there. CNN hasn’t been useful in years, but I suspect this is mostly about the division of Warner Brothers Discovery into two companies, with the part that has HBOMax being the more useful one (and probably the one Apple is still contracted with).

CNN is not a company. It is WBD (Warner Bros Discover) who are the corporation.

WBD has been trying to find a future since the merger a couple of years ago, a merger left them straddled with a mountain of debt.

Since then WBD upper management, in the hopes of yet another merger in the future which will make them outlandishly wealthy, have been cutting left and right, and also trying to nickel and dime whatever they can from customers.

This move is part of that nickel and dime.

Does CNN still provide news?
Barely. They fill up time with these super annoying food travel shows.

CNN is biased, too. Fox is just as bad, but in the other direction.

My recommendation: get your news from a few paid sources / newspapers you can trust. Real journalism is worth paying for. Not the lazy talking head shows on TV where important topics get boiled down to tired talking points.

Apple News is the only news service I subscribe to, since I don't want to pay for the other 67 news subscription services monthly or yearly. Another reason is that I can see news from multiple sources. I can see different views, different opinions, and different positions.

Not to get into politics, but I don't miss CNN's one sided "so called news"

Lol there's no way in HELL I'm paying for CNN's written articles. I miss the CNN of yore, but they're trippin' if they think people are going to pay this much for their content.
Nailed it. Every time I see "subscribers only" on their site I just say fu under my breath.

Hopefully more media companies do this and it forces Tim Cook out of the door as soon as possible.
What does Apple News even exist?

It’s not a high quality product. It ends up recommending practically every article it has. Its ads are even worse than the outbrain network and that’s saying something.

All of Apples entertainment services are trash.

Last week I saw they were tied for ratings with Nick at Nite, it should be interesting to see if they are up for sale to the highest bidder before too long. Losing it on Apple News doesn't help things any better.
