Damn, was looking forward to that Mini rumor. O'well, I'll just continue to save.

I'm glad I've got my new MB then. Though I would like to get my mom a Mac Mini. Her iMac G3 CRT is starting to get blue.

There's something preventing you from going to the Apple Store and buying a current Mac mini for your mom?

They suddenly stopped working?

hopefully this means macworld will be very exciting then, lots of surprises
Exactly. I dont' see why more people haven't speculated on this. I think our chances of seeing the mythical xMac are greater than ever.

Think about it: Laptops have been redesigned, as has the iMac. iMac refresh is not worthy of MacWorld material. Mac Pros will get Nehalem, but it won't happen at MacWorld. The only significant "hole" remaining in Apple's lineup is the Mini. I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised come January. I mean seriously, what else is there to announce?

My guess? Something to replace the Mini as we know it currently. I know this has been said for years, but based on the current state of product updates/refreshes, this is what all signs point to at the moment.

I wonder if the cost of changing manufacturing for new products is becoming prohibitive with lower profit margins. Might this mean fewer refreshes in the overall product line for Apple for the duration of the recession?

I just hope that the mini does get the update we deserve. With no Mac mini, there wont' be an option to use a Mac without the crappy glossy screens, unless we spend £1500 on a Mac Pro.

I've been using Macs for a decade, and the death of the Mini would be a very sad day in history.

So for MWSF 09 we'll get iMac/Mini/Mac Pro updates & iPhone 2.2 software. The End.

With MWSF just 2 months away, Apple might be waiting until then to show off the next Mac mini (silently?). We'll have to wait.

I predict most of MacWorld devoted to discussing the state of the Mac and Snow Leopard. Maybe a release date....spring 09?

that's a major bummer.

eventually when it does happen, what kind of an update do you guys think the iMac will get anyways? mobile nehalem is not going to happen until later 2009. maybe the 3.06 as the standard high end model and no bto (as far as cpu's)?

LAME. I was really hoping to get a new 24" iMac this month.

Apple is really letting their machines ferment too long - I would like to see them make some attempt at parity with the PC world for crying out loud.

Perhaps it's time to build my own Mac?

Maybe nothing 'new'.

Dam, was gonna get parents a new iMac for Christmas. Not like it matters to them. BUT IT DOES TO ME!

Dagnabbit I wanted a Mini for a media center this Christmas. Guess I'll have to wait because I really don't see buying a year-old machine without wireless-N at year-old prices. And nothing else makes any sense as an media center -- the itv is too inflexible to make sense when I can get something that acts as a wireless bridge, a DVD player, and more for a bit more.

Coal for my stocking please.

What a total let down! However this likely does mean that for the holiday season people should buy gift certificates or give money so that when stuff comes out at MWSF they won't have to feel regret for purchasing something when a new product comes out just 10 days later.

The next iMac will of necessity have to include an LED screen, a speed bump and black (instead of yesterday's white) Chicklet keyboard.

However, the delay may allow for more industrial design changes: environmentally friendly matte screen material and user serviceable hard drive are key. Bookmark this post and check back after Macworld.

If the iMac doesn't come out of MacWorld sporting a single Quad Core chip in each model I will be pissed. That is the only thing that is keeping me from ditching the "Pro" machines for an iMac. If Apple really wants the iMac to be THE Mac for the company, because honestly they have given up on the Mac Pro/Power Mac user, they should put a Quad Core chip in it.

Actually this is good news. The iMac and Mac-Mini when released at Macworld 2009 in January will have 1/2 gen better processors and software support.

When the Mini was first introduced with a Core Solo, it had performance a significant portion of the MacPro of the moment. When it went to Core Duo it was comparable in overall usability to the Pro, and then the Pro was updated to monster status.

I am guessing they will be talking about software a lot as usual, but this time the iMac and Mac-Mini will be rereleased. The MacPro will have some discussion pending release, or be quietly updated along with X-serve.

One thing is this is different from past years. The iMac is usually the star of the show. This year it is the Books.
