I think that the MacBook and MacBook's will be updated soon, but not as soon as October 14. If Apple were really smart, they'd release them in time for christmas.

I would think October 14th is the latest otherwise the 4th quarter sales will be low as MBs and MBPs are both now outdated compared to the technology out there. Apple will want to get a wriggle on if they want to capitalise. The back to school promo ends tomorrow or something close to the date right? I would think they might want a couple of weeks to clear old stock then bring out new products Just a theory

Why October?

I'm thinking of buying a MacBook so I've been checking out the rumor sites, and I don't know much about how the world of Apple works, but doesn't it make sense that Apple/Steve would want to wait until the outcome of the election is known to see if the economy is going to tank further or recover? Why wouldn't they wait until November 15 or later? Why would they release less than a month before the election? I know the US is not the center of the universe but it's obvious our economy affects the world economy to a fairly large degree....so I'm just asking why they wouldn't take the election into consideration.

The election itself won't immediately determine the course the economy takes. It will influence the course, but that will manifest itself over months, if not years.

I think that was more wishful thinking than based on any real evidence.
Somebody posted a purported Apple invitation for a September 16 Special Event some time ago.

I'm not saying they won't come out with new notebooks ahead of MWSF, just not a major redesign. As you've pointed out, there are some 120 days left, and that is indeed a lot of time...enough time, in fact, to put out a stopgap refresh followed by a true redesign to be revealed at MWSF.
That's happened before, in a way, with the last PowerPC iMacs and PowerBook G4s in 2005 and the first Intel Macs at MWSF 2006.

OK, so this whole thread is pegged to a rumor from some site called DaringFireball, whatever that is. Perhaps someone can enlighten me regarding the reliability of that site or maybe point out some other "reliable" source for a rumor regarding new notebooks in October.
A lot of "October Apple event with redesigns" stuff is pure speculation at this point, but an October redesign by itself is backed up by rumors. AppleInsider claimed the notebooks will be released after the iPods, possibly in October. Earlier, they said mid-to-late September was the earliest possibility for an announcement. There have also been reseller hints of an October release. Generally it seems that release dates are more fluid than product features.

The tablet Mac has also been rumored for a September/October release.

If someone wants a computer , they will go get one , regardless .
If economics do end up having a play (which I doubt) people will probably just go and buy up the Mini's left in the stock chain .....then :apple: could release the new Macs already !

rumors and rumors! Thats what this forum is about! haha... But I am so tempted to get the mbp nw!!

What do you mean by ''iPhone-like/iPhone-looking''? Do you mean that they're gonna use a stainless steel case instead of an aluminum one...
i don't know specifics, just that it looks "kinda like a 30" iphone 3G, rounded corners and with the curved back". i honestly don't know any more than that.

Relative to the date of announcement, how long is it before the released products are available for purchase?

Usually at the date of announcement, Steve will specify the exact date or timeframe (if the date is not certain) of availability. The new iPods, "available today" @ Apple Stores and Apple Store online...for instance.

iPhone date was announced too by Steve at the original product intro. Sometimes he will say "shipping in October" -- usually points to an OS release when the ship date or the FC build is not finalized.

As answer to your question -- it can vary. Apple can announce a product "shipping today" or "taking orders today" but may not ship for another 2 months, usually these are PowerBooks and portables, as everybody goes out to order them online the day they are announced at a keynote, and then Apple has to deliver all that mass of orders, and it can take time.

So it varies. But I can guarantee you once the product announcement is made some sort of date or specified timeframe will be given (for availability/first shipping) It doesn't mean you will get yours on that date, either.

I'm looking forward to the new macbook pro's and I hope that they finally acknowledge the graphics card issues with the old one, so we can get an appropriate solution and hopefully an exchange programm.

The influence on the US economics due to elections would take a year at the minimum, and before it would have a bigger change a couple of years. Also, a lot of Macs are used outside of the States, and the States due not affect the worlds economy, that much, that people would not be able to buy Macs anymore. Also, I dont think that that would be the case in the US either.
SO I don't see why Apple would wait until November, at least from the general election/economics point of view.

I am thinking to buy a new laptop, and this time my choice is a macbook.

I am gonna buy a new macbook within 1-2 months, but are you guys sure on oct 14 new macbook or macbooks will be out??

And what will the new macbooks have??

blu.ray player?

and will the price be cheaper or much highere??

im in a dillema. Really wanna buy a new laptop.....................

we are NOT sure it is October the 4th, it is just another hyped date like all the ones we had in July, August and September.

Most likely I can see us getting to October, and start saying November .

For specs, If the price is going to stay the same I really should hope it has blu-ray? for the price of it, I want it to be the BEST and up to date technology to last me the next 3 years. I think it would be silly to buy now as you're paying for something that is how old? and the current graphic issues too :/ once you know about them you cannot forget.

So what do you do? join the waiting line with NO END and no guarantee its going to be big? Or buy now and risk a new model actually coming out in the next few month, and possibly the current time bomb problem?

I personally think the waiting outweighs buying one now (unless you need it of course), if you're waiting though, just be optimistic.

A GUY IN WITH A BLOG SAID OCTOBER 14TH, CAN ANYONE CONFIRM WHO HE IS AND WHY HE IS SO RELIABLE?

Sorry, everyone

I guess I meant why wouldn't Apple wait for consumer confidence to recover rather than the entire US economy, especially since it should get a bounce after the election? I'm hoping it will be October 14th too, it just seems kind of weird that they would release so close to the election but not wait, but like I said I don't know how Apple works on this stuff.

Hi guys,

Today we now MB and MBP will probably upgrade for the 14th event, but what about iMacs ?

Any idea ? Rumors ? :D

i cant really think of ANY company that waits for politics to finish to release projects.

Please consider your use of offensive language

hmmm.. did jobs really forget about the macbook ?
...the black and white cases are very homo and im sure alot of ppl agree with me..

Do you have to use phobic language when giving us your opinion of the looks of the MacBook? What does it mean that you think the color of the cases looks "homo"? It doesn't even make sense. Please think about your careless use of language and get that it's not only offensive, it's a meaningless and uncreative way to express yourself.

Your are right, because for that price i can get a acer laptop with double of it with blu-ray.

But i really want a macbook. I will wait for the next macbook.

But can anyone confirm if its true its oct 14th or its not. And if its true, what do u guys think the new macbook will have? and what price it will be aprox??

as apple nowdays cuts the price down on ipods and iphone aswell. So i really hope they do the same for macbook.

MacBook Pro is definitely worth the extra money if you are willing to go for it. I have both a MacBook and a MacBook Pro, and from the minute I got my MacBook Pro, I never use my MacBook anymore. My MBP is the 15" 2.4GHz Santa Rosa with 4GB of RAM. It's a desktop replacement at work and hooks to my 22" display via the standard DVI port, which will work with DVI-D and DVI-I (that is a *big*) plus to have that universal DVI port. The display on the 15" (matte) is soooo much better than that glossy 13.3" it's not even funny. The new LED lit screens are incredible, the brightest LCD screens I have seen on any laptop or or desktop display that Apple makes. BRIGHT, clear, and crisp.

Yeah, there is a price difference in paying ~ 1300 - $1400 and shelling out for a MacBook Pro. But once the new line comes out I can guarantee you the 2.4GHz model (like I have) and the older Penryns will come down, and you can snatch them at a bargain. There are just too many advantages of the MacBook Pro over the MacBook to name, I just believe it's a better designed, more useful/utility of a notebook to have, given you have a much better display, better graphics, and a laptop that's as fast a desktop. My MacBook Pro is easily twice as fast as my 1.83GHz MacBook (2GB). Not saying the MacBooks or slow, but after using both I would never go back.

Just an opinion. I think MBP is definitely worth saving, even if you have to sell half your old computer junk on eBay to afford one. You won't regret it.
