The new LED lit screens are incredible, the brightest LCD screens I have seen on any laptop or or desktop display that Apple makes. BRIGHT, clear, and crisp.

And I think the new MacBooks will have LED displays, thus making your argument not relevant.
Also, 100% sure that the new MacBooks will be aluminium.

Okay, if Apple (does) develop a consumer, affordable MacBook with such casing, LED lit displays, better keyboards (a la MBP) with Penryn (or Santa Rosa..probably not, because that is old tech) architecture that are FAST, have a full arsenal of ports, a REAL video card...not integrated graphics.

and price it at $1299.

Then, there is something maybe I would CRAVE
...or just maybe drool a bit.

That is fair enough. Integrated graphics stall the whole system. We will all agree on that.

Dixons.co.uk (UK equivalent of best buy etc) is showing 'Out of Stock' of every single Apple Laptop/Notebook with the exception of the base model macbook.

Their isnt much more to elaborate on "I think its sooner", stop praying for someone to step forward and go "OK GUISE - YOU GOT ME, STEVE HERE, YEH MBP NEXT TUESDAY BYE GUYZZ :apple::apple:"

Current stock in Comet (UK retailer) were low, and now they have just got load of macbooks, MBP's in and a nice new stand section for them to sit at away from window laptops. This could be the last of "one last order", as the UK retailers are pretty slow at getting new stock 2 - 3 weeks before they'll show up.

So it is.

And so is Currys.co.uk - every Apple notebook but the cheapest Macbook.

And at PCworld.co.uk they're showing "not available" for several MBP and Macbooks.

um, actually, were just trying to upkeep what our understand of the rules of this forum were. If you make a statement, give proof or at least explain why youve stated it. Is it really so much to ask that there arent a million empty posts on the site?

I had a dream last night that it was this week? Seriously I did :D Anyway, my logic that it could be within the next couple of weeks is that the back to school promo is over now (or soonish) and that they would want to capitalize on the Q4 sales so it would make sense to release it earlier rather than later. Maybe they won't have an event for it? Now using some far out logic that they had this huge event for basically a non event (the ipods), maybe they will just whack the newly designed MBs and MBPs up without an event? I'm just throwing things out there

GREETINGS FROM CUPERTINO,

STEVEN J. HERE, WE ARE CURRENTLY FOCUSING A TAD MORE ON IPHONE SOFTWARE UPDATE 1.1.23.2.4 AND THE URGENT UPDATE - CODE FER34W31 FOR THE NANO, AND MAN DO WE HAVE A HANDFUL! ANYTHING MAC WILL HAVE TO BE NEXT YEAR.

SORRY!:apple:

we are NOT sure it is October the 4th, it is just another hyped date like all the ones we had in July, August and September.

Most likely I can see us getting to October, and start saying November .
That's what I fear. But generally release dates are more fluid than features, so we should see a redesign for the upcoming notebooks no matter what their release date.

For specs, If the price is going to stay the same I really should hope it has blu-ray? for the price of it, I want it to be the BEST and up to date technology to last me the next 3 years.
I'd rather have a faster CPU, more RAM, better graphics, higher display resolution, and/or a bigger hard drive than Blu-ray. But to each his own.

A GUY IN WITH A BLOG SAID OCTOBER 14TH, CAN ANYONE CONFIRM WHO HE IS AND WHY HE IS SO RELIABLE?
That's what I'm wondering too…

Care to elaborate..
+1

*crosses everything possible that they will be released this week* :D LOL I did that last week and it didn't work

Well... read the macrumors.com article and pursue some traces on the web. It's really easy. That guy's blog is called "DaringFireball", and the bloke himself is called John Gruber. Wikipedia entries have been known to exist for both. I don't know if this is where this october 14th date originated. But at least this rumor is corroborated by one of the most renowned writers in the Apple/Mac blogosphere.

No problem.

Just keep in mind, there could always be some delays or changes of schedules at Apple, or the whole story could just be unfounded, so that we won't see new Book at or before october 14. But on the other this is not from "just some random guy with a blog" either.

Anyway... when I look at Apple's previous release dates and cycles and taking into account new stuff from Intel and that some releases are virtually overdue, this look quite plausible to me. Even more so than the expectations for last week's "Let's rock" event.

I'm hoping for a sweet and sizable update to the Air.

I see a lot of the Airs on the road, so I am hoping Apple is getting some serious sales from this laptop. I love it.

homosexual macbooks...

Do you have to use phobic language when giving us your opinion of the looks of the MacBook? What does it mean that you think the color of the cases looks "homo"? It doesn't even make sense. Please think about your careless use of language and get that it's not only offensive, it's a meaningless and uncreative way to express yourself.

Thank you! I was staring at this comment thinking "he's probably 11, leave it alone" but seriously!! Now macbooks have been dubbed "gay" and we all know that "gay" is a terribly misused word as it is... but... I don't see how a poor defenseless macbook could be at all homosexual...looking or otherwise?

Ok as far as all those saying "I hope it will be sooner than Oct. 14", if you don't see any rumors the day before usually it's not going to happen. I've been on this site for a while and seen the process on here through apple refreshes. Almost always the week before the updates, you get a lot of different sources confirming or reporting that refreshes are coming in the next week or couple days. Again, it seems right now, Oct. 14 is solid. If not on Oct. 14 then we will probably see them in November. But sooner than Oct. 14? Highly unlikely.

It sucks to, because I badly need a new computer. I need one so bad, I'm almost about to go buy one. But I can't bring myself to do it, when updates are so close. I'd just kick myself in a few weeks.

No problem.

Yeah, for those who don't read Daringfireball, Gruber knows his stuff. He's got contacts. Obviously nobody knows 100%, but this isn't just anybody and I would put weight into what he says.

Very interesting that at pcworld.co.uk, only one of the 4 macbooks are available online, one is not available, and two are only available collect instore, which to me suggests that stock has been shipped out to the stores and depleted completely at the distribution centre.
New macs may be rolled out before the 14th Oct?
