Am I the only one that thinks that 3-5 MP over the internet would bring mad lag? I think a 1.3MP is enough, as long as they update the quality of the picture (I'm not a digital camera buff but I do know that MP are not the answer to make a picture look good). I think the iPhone's camera image quality looks amazing in comparison to other camera phones (not the crazy korean phones, but regular smartphone/basic phone in the US) and I think a 2.0MP would be enough, so long as the quality, not so much the size, of the picture improves.

BR BTO seems more likely (MacPro would seem like it would get it first for practical reasons) but Intel Chips were first implemented into MBPs and iMacs..

Black Mighty Mouse!

Okay, I'm calling it first, right here:

I predict that, with these new laptop introductions, Apple will introduce a new black Mighty Mouse, with a matte finish (like the back of the iMac).

I mean, after all, there's not going to be anything white left on any of their computers! (Except keyboard keys.)

If they really are going to add an all aluminum case and backlit keyboard to the MB then how are they going to keep the price of the Air justified?

IMO the air will be nonexistent in a few years and will essentially end up becoming the Macbook.

Blu-Ray drive are still expensive. Please show me where you can get it for slot loaded drive for $150.

That wouldn't stop Apple from including it. They would simply offer it as build-to-order, or as the high-end option. I paid $3299 for each of my 15" TI-Books I bought back in 2002, because they were the first portable to include a Super Drive.

The 17" notebooks were also $3299 when first released.

A 3-5 MP camera would be great, as I mentioned earlier.

Remember, you don't always have to use it to the full resolution, you can adjust it to different applications.

I doubt it. The Air is for ultra portability, it will still have a niche. I finally got to see an Air live and was impressed with its thinness. The Macbook will be the entry level/home consumer laptop, the MBP will be the professional/work laptop and the Air will be the ultra portable. They all have their place.

I am desiring a Mac Book Pro with a Read Blu-Ray drive with a build to order red/write Blu-Ray drive. The 17' would get the read/write Blu- Ray standard. This is my hope for the future.

Remember, Apple wants it users to watch iTunes content (especially the mobile ones), not Blu-ray content.

Apple seems to have forgotten, then, that it's the users that buy it's computers. I don't care what Apple wants. My next laptop will have a Blu-ray drive. I would like to buy it from Apple.

Why mess with a good thing? The MBP is a beautiful machine. Minor revisions are understandable (e.g. larger trackpad), but the basic machine is as perfect-looking and functioning a laptop as I have ever seen. Barring a major change in computer interfaces, I don't see the reason or benefit of mixing things up in a major way.

Who cares about the color, Apple needs to go back to their roots, when ergonomics were important, not looks. :D

I really don't know what happened. Back in the nineties, Apple had a great mouse, then the demon-hockey-puck-mouse was tortured upon us and all has been horrid since then. I'm so grateful for Logitech. Even Microsof has returned to making good mice -- they lost it for a while, but not as bad as Apple.

If new Apple laptops come out June and Apple repeats the free iPod Nano deal, i may have died and went to heaven ;)

even if roll in the free ipod as a sales tactics.. i'm sure they launch it BEFORE the new mb or mbp's release.. if not, how would they be able to clear their old stocks?

and Ok.. I'M CURRENTLY IN A FIXED!! I was about to purchase mbp soon.
but i have a strong feeling that it isn't going to be anytime this year..
They seemed like spending most of their time on the 'packaging' of their iphone..

oh.. and the design might be implemented with touch screens.. since they patented the idea..

Common sense says otherwise!

Apple Notebooks to See Major Design Changes? No duh! Eventually, anyway.

The only question is when. While most of you Mac fans are touting June-Sept, I say no, probably first quarter of 2009 for two reasons:

1) MacWorld! Why wouldn't Steve want to introduce two new case designs for both of Apple's notebook lines in its flagship exposition!? From past experience, the TiBook design was introduced in a January MacWorld and so was the aluminium design we have today for both the PowerBook line and the Intel MacBook Pro line.

2) Nehalem. While Montevina seems like a good enough excuse for a case redesign, Nehalem's architecture is more different from Montevina (I'm assuming from my limited knowledge) than Montevina is from our current Penryn/Santa Rosa. If I was an Apple engineer, I'd rather design around the more radical Intel parts. Also, slot-loading blu-ray drives might be possible for Apple to include in the default config then so the introduction of the new notebook lines will have the biggest bang in nearly every department.

Well, that's my case for no new designs until MacWorld 2009 at the earliest. Just my 2 cents for the Mac community.

Alright, first mockup ever. Here goes.

"It's like the grail" JD-Scrubs

on a side note, do you think the macbook will keep the black, bc IMO i think it is much sexier than any Al notebook :D

I would be surprised to see Blu-ray this year in a Mac at all. Apple doesn't move very fast when it comes to optical drives. It took forever to get CD burning into the Mac and they still offer only 16x drives in Pro machines and 8x drives in laptops and iMacs (and still refuse to let the combo drive die). I don't see a Blu-ray drive happening in a Mac at all until 2009. Remember, they'll want to update Final Cut Studio to master Blu-ray discs. Apple isn't even attending NAB so I doubt they will be doing that this year.

Here are my predictions for the Monteniva based MacBook Pro:

- 45nm C2D 2.66-3.06ghz
- 800mhz DDR2 ram
- Hard Drives from 250-500GB, with option for a SSD
- BLU-Ray standard! on MacBook Pro (Blu-Ray drives are cheap. You can get them for a mere $150). By June, they will get even cheaper.
- 3-5 megapixel isight
- 9600 GT graphics card (the 9600 GT is around 3x faster than the 8600 GT):D

blu-ray also drains battery.

GREAT!!!! i just bought my Macbook (black) last week!!!

you shouldn't feel that mad.. since you can't predict when the product would be launched.. that's like this coming jul (VERY unlikely).. macworld 2009 (possible) or even later.. (who knows??)

what matter the most is that since you bought it.. you should feel comfortable with the mb and it should benefit you in all directions.. :)
if you are not.. i would suggest paying a 'fee' and return ur black back to apple and wait happily.. (which is not advisable..;))

17 inch MBA

I doubt it. The Air is for ultra portability, it will still have a niche. I finally got to see an Air live and was impressed with its thinness. The Macbook will be the entry level/home consumer laptop, the MBP will be the professional/work laptop and the Air will be the ultra portable. They all have their place.

Along those lines. Anyone think Apple might come out with a 17" MBA. I think this might be a winner.

It would be lighter than a MB but with led backlit 17" display. Keypad replaced with a multi-touch display base that could change for the function needed (ie keyboard, graphics tablet, special layouts for custom software). It would be slightly thicker than MBA to support superdrive or super-blu-drive, and larger capacity HDD. Battery and super-drive need to be hot swappable so that some users could run with two batteries and no DVD.

I want mine completely in matte black, annodized aluminum.

current MacBook Pros are ugly

i could not agree more, i love that thing!
Last month I needed to pull a file off my Titanium PowerBook (purchased November 2002) and pulled it out of my backpack at work. Two women nearby ooohed and aaahed. "Wow! New computer? Cool!"

We have dozens of aluminum MacBook Pros at work, but they're ugly, so no one gives them a second glance. The lack of a MacBook Pro update for so long is a major embarrassment for Apple. I hope they get the next one right.

Laptops need very carefull ergonomic design due to the onboard key-board, the first improvement must be to elliminate the edges of the case where the screen and the body sandwhich together. every inch of every product anycompany makes should be rounded, smooth and ideally soft like skin. and it should conduct the products heat in a way that keeps cold hands warm and sweating processors cool. that way the cpu wont whine:rolleyes:. its always good to hear a rumor but one about a product line that has been square and boring since the first ibook was discontinued is overjoyous. i want some sexy shape to curl my eyes around.
