+1 more user who thinks the current case design is way too weak and will NOT buy it again.

i have had tibook + powerbook and both age very badly.
Dents and major misalignment.

my G4 powerbook looks likes its about to fall to pieces.

hope they have something better next.

I figured that this transition would be made sooner or later with everything else on these enclosures except for the Macbooks and Mac Mini

Reminds me of a sweet mod I've seen...

But I'm a fan of the Necronomicon G4:

How I miss the old El-Capitain series. My old G3 was the best computer I ever owned.

I agree

I've owned 3 to 4 notebooks of the current design. No dents. What are earth on you doing that a notebook case can't protect you from. A thicker case means more weight, both of which aren't needed. These are precision machines, not hockey pucks. Treat them accordingly.

Yeah, what exactly are you folks doing with your machines? After 4 years both of our MBPs looks pretty much like the day we bought them. A slight warping of the lid on one, but that's about it. Dented corners? Folds like foil? Cripes!

PS: Dave, How are the Other Four doin'?

PC'isher

you can tell the TiBooks look older just by looking at it but to the naked eye and non Mac users the PowerBook and MacBook Pro's look exactly the same.

NO! The MacBookPro looks more like a PC, given the ugly thick bezel.

I'm curious to see what comes next, but I'm not too optimistic, as the Air is disappointing. Again, the bezel is too thick and compared to some of the mock-ups which looked really nice, what materialised as the Air, is weak.

To omit the Apple symbol from the keyboard is very poor, and is a proof of a culture that changed to its worst.

N.B. the IBM notebook is quite compelling.

Generally, as others wrote it too, Apple's success with all the "kid stuff" went too the expense of the Computer division, including the OS!!

What am I doing? Using it.

My first generation MBP has warped/bent near where my wrist sits right above the Combo Drive (come ON... what a poor design choice.) and prevents discs from clean insertion. I've had the chassis replaced at an insane cost and the problem came back a month later.

The side also has dents from god knows where while it was in my bag.

It's a beautiful design, but it's not a functional one at all.

I miss a lot of Apple's old design. I know minimalism is "in" but that doesn't make it beautiful. There's nothing like the style of the classics, especially the el-capitan, iMac G4, and, of course, the Cube.

I personally think the new computers are very stylish. I think those computers were all great designs for their time, however, they would look ridiculous, IMHO, if they were introduced today. Again, i think they were good designs, but they are too outdated now, just like the MBP is becoming. The MB (blackbook) is still cutting edge design (IMO) but, i think the MBP needs a redesign. Give it a little of that Air shape, or its own new shape, but give it something, it is starting to look a little old.
Just my .02

I partially agree and partially disagree.

I think the BlackBook is the most backwards in Apple's design yet. There have been black notebooks since the beginning of notebooks. When I was a wee tot, my dad purchased a sweet ZEOS latptop. It was two inches thick, and had a 6" B&W screen, coated in a black plastic finish. Talk about old skool.

I definitely see the visual appeal in the MBP and MP but I'm not as fond of those designs as I was of the older designs.

I would say, if anything, the MBA is a call back to the previous curvy style of previous models. I hope that Apple's future designs take cues from the MBA... with the exception of miniturization... the MacMini is small enough boys.

I know... wrong thread.

I think we may be on the same page with this. I love the curvy look of the Air, and I agree, that most things do not need to be much smaller (laptops can always get smaller if you do not cripple them.) I disagree with the black though. I think the black looks sleek, even though it has been around for a while, because it isn't your standard black, it has a look and feel to it that doesn't look as cheap as the black on my toshiba. I think the thing with the old computers is to take the good parts of them, and improve upon them, while staying innovative!

The MB screen is crud. I sold mine because of that alone.

I could care less about the box, just make the frikin' thing work better.

For decades, I've read about nano-tech, and other high-science materials. So where the hell are they? Absorbed and suppressed by the military-industrial complex, no doubt.

Gosh Darn the Killing Machine. We should all be living like kings!

Appleinsider's article yesterday stated that sources said there will be "major design changes". It will be very interesting to see what Ive comes up with next and how he will keep (and even increase) the power and ports of the pro line while reducing weight and thickness. Also, will the MBP just have the same track pad as the MBA or will it expand on the multi-touch idea?

I doubt it. The Air is for ultra portability, it will still have a niche. I finally got to see an Air live and was impressed with its thinness. The Macbook will be the entry level/home consumer laptop, the MBP will be the professional/work laptop and the Air will be the ultra portable. They all have their place.

Yes but just FOR NOW. The air is the same screen and keyboard size as the MB, this is very rare for an ultraportable. The only two main differences between the MB and the Air is 1) thinness and 2) the lack of optical drive... and maybe 3) speed and memory.

1) We know laptops will continuously get thinner and thinner with the years that follow

2) Everything is going wireless. Just as floppy's were phased out so will the optical drive

3) chips are always getting smaller and SSD will become much cheaper/higher capacity in the coming years, all of this is certain.

Am I totally off here?

I still can't believe that Apple is selling the Black MacBook at a $100.00 premium over the White MacBook. And people are buying them!

Man I hope it ships prior to the end of July, as I was planning to buy a 15" MacBook Pro then to take with me on a trip. But if not, I'll tote my MacBook with me.

third that

Agreed, I use a Mac (desktop and laptop) by choice. However, if I was ever forced to use a PC I would go ThinkPad without looking elsewhere. A few months ago a company I was consulting with gave me a high end Dell. I used it once or twice and then just left it in it's bag. Eventually I told them that I didn't need a computer and used my iPhone while I was on site.

I use a Thinkpad (Pre Lenovo by a month) at work and it looks and feels rock solid. At home I am all mac but if I had to buy a PC variant, I think I would get that one. One PC that got it right. I have had dells and Toshibas and none of them are even close to the thinkpad.

But, if I put my MBP next to it, it "shines" in comparison. It's just so pretty. :D

I hope they don't ruin it...and I am not a fan of the black keys on the aluminum chassis. I never liked them on the titaniums. It's not as fluid to me. Hopefully they keep them silver.

Id love for it to look like this, using the black metallic look but also adding metallic white what the macbook was famous for..

good stuff, but nothing suggests they will go this route.

The silver/black is more probably like the MBA. They are getting away from the white...but i still wonder why the new keyboard and mighty mouse are still white. They look dumb with the new iMacs imo.

Cool Apple, now just ship it!

Oh, and give us a Blu-Ray option, AND WiMax/HSPA/EV-DO options internal w/out having to take up a card slot!

THanks!

If they were selling that, I would buy it. That is an amazing mockup. Looks a lot better then the current MacBook Pros

2 Thumbs up
