Its about time apple has started upgrading their front side bus speeds. They've been underpar for awhile now, and 1066Mhz is still kinda slow considering the highest I've seen was 1666MHz and that was a year ago. They will probably increase that soon too.

guy, the fastest FSB for a mobile computer is currently 800mhz, soon to increase in June.

That looks pretty. I think it would be a nightmare if they change the keyboard to black like the air. It doesnt look good or feel good. The all silver matches better.
Now if they come out with more than 1 color MBP. Then if it's white, make it all white, if it's black then make it all metallic black, and if it's silver, keep the silver keypad.

Seriously doubt if they have multiple color options on a pro line. It will be all one color - probably aluminum. As for the keys, I have no idea.

Well, drop a Powerbook / Macbook Pro from a small height and it's likely to get bent (no pun intended) in a way it gets misaligned edges, deformed ports, broken plastic rims, etc. And depending on temperature, those things tend to wobble because the bottom case is stiff, yet slightly deformed.

or through it onto a wall. Maybe that hurts the computer too ;)

So....

Is june most likely the date they will be releasing the New MBP or has anyone else heard different. To believe i awas gonna buy one in 2 weeks.:)

i know what im going to be buying in the summer then.. new 3g iphone and a macbook

plastic has been better wifi range

I personally prefer the plastic macbook design for two reasons. It is lighter than the metal enclosures. It picks up the wifi signal better at a farther distance in my house. With the metal enclosures, my airport express doesn't connect in the front room where I like to sit. With plastic enclosure macbook, I get a good signal pickup.

If they do this my next macbook will be a refurbished plastic one!

Yup ... I sold my metal MBP because the wifi range was poor. Bought a plastic MB and benefited from much better wifi range.

So I am debating whether to buy a refurb MacBook and wait to see what the new update will actually be.

I will not buy a new MBP if it has chicklet (though I don't mind it for temporary reasons in a MacBook)

Not sure if I would buy MBP with the classic keyboard if it's black - still on the fence with that but probably not likely.

That said. If they do announce an update in June - it will likely just be an announcement/presentation of what's to come and therefore should allow me time to go out and buy a remaining current generation before they ship the new ones - right? Or is this wishful thinking on my part?

I'm really looking forward to this. IMO the new MBP needs nothing more than a magnetic latch, a MBA-style keyboard and a larger touchpad. If the weight was cut down a bit it wouldn't hurt either.

Anyway, the current keyboard is the only thing that keeps me from buy the machine now. It just feels cheap and plasticlike compared to the MBA-styled one. Can't wait to get my new machine in mid-july.

This is IT

If so

THANK YOU

Apple:apple:

I have been waiting for this for over a year now.

Hopefully at the WWDC!!!!!!

I agree with the mag latch. But the second statement made me spit out my beer! The Air KB is plastic, so it would be "plasticy" too!
:p

How long are Apple return policy? Like the ability to return without any defects, just pure, "I want to return, no questions asked"?

;)

If you haven't looked at Intel for this year, then you are missing out. :D They have already announced that they are going to be phasing out the Santa Rosa chipset by the end of the year. Apple will most likely make a MacBook and MacBook Pro with the Montavena Chipset. This also means they will have longer battery life, faster FSB, and a smaller board. With the smaller board, they will have room to upgrade the GPU or they will most likely make the case smaller/lighter.

Whoever said they will redesign them next February, there is a chance. The Nehalem chipset is due out in November, so they may have an update in February to the new chipset, but that means they won't update them this June. :(

I actually have a Manager that went to an Intel Conference this past weekend. He said they showed the new Mac Mini and the new iMac. I don't have a lot of details because I wasn't able to talk to him that much. I will post when I learn more. All he told me was that they were going to the Montavena Chipset and they will be thinner.

If they do announce an update in June - is it going to be just an announcement or available immediately? ... I want to know if I'd have time to decide if I wanted the update or the current generation.

Anyone have any clue or guesses?

Don't have a clue. At this point I would just be happy with an official announcement in June - along with 3G. I'm coming in with lowered expectations.

So back to speculation and waiting. If Intel is introducing Montevina in June, is seems to me like Apple will wait at least a few months before releasing their new computers, regardless of redesign-after all, it took Apple two+ months to update the notebooks to Penryn, so it'll take at least as long for the next revision. I mean, it's been barely two months since the last MBP/MB update so it seems like they'll sell those models for a while before releasing new ones-at best a release is likely in August/September. I really don't think they'll announce anything either-I mean, that would kill their current sales. And, there was no 'announcement' prior to the last release so they probably won't for this one. Until then I'll keep checking macrumors and slowly saving my money while existing without a computer. It seems like it would be a tragic waste to buy the old model just before a redesign.

it'd be nice if they put a dedicated graphics card into the macbook. even a 64mb card is better than what is onboard now.

just imagine, a stainless steel enclosure.
lets hope not.

some people on this site just don't get it. You can not just keep making the mbp smaller and smaller. Then you won't be able to get the pro level of performance.

As of now the biggest gpu we can fit in there is the 8600gt. If we make it any smaller than we will get an even smaller card.

I don't know how people think this laptop is going to get skinnier. And please don't post back saying the new generation of gpu's are smaller, because even thought that is true, there height is the same.

if anything i hope the bottom half of the mbp gets larger so we can put in a bigger card. but it sure as hell won't get any thinner.

Once A New Design Is Out.....

Is it advisable to wait until all the problems have been discovered, and ironed out? If so, how long would you wait after release to get one? I know some people aim for the first revision of a new design.
