Yeah, what exactly are you folks doing with your machines? After 4 years both of our MBPs looks pretty much like the day we bought them.

The MBP's have not been in existence for 4 years. Try 2 1/2.

Wow, I got excited when I heard this rumor. I haven't been on this forum in a while due to work, but I try to get my fix of technology news through Engadget and Gizmodo (though none of these have reported this news yet).

I am fine with a change in design OR with no change; but I would like to see what else Apple can cram into these marvelous MacBook (Pro).

(If they DO come with Blu-Ray for MBP; I hope they put it as a "side dish"; i have no use for BluRay at the moment.)

But they're nearly identical in design to the fw800 Powerbooks which were introduced in late 2003 which weren't all the different from the original powerbook G4 introduced seven years ago. We really haven't had a major redesign in over seven years.

I'd like to see some kind of docking solution for the MBP that integrates with Apple Cinema Displays. I think they have to be working on a solution like that. Apple would love to sell another $200 product to us, and for folks with second monitor setups, I think it makes sense. I think the MBA would be way cooler and more functional if it had a dock of some kind. Although having just said that, maybe the fact that they didn't go with a docking solution suggests Apple won't add more desk clutter. Don't some new plasmas have networking to accept wireless video signals? Maybe that's where this is all headed.

Regardless, having purchased my first mac, the powerbook g4 17, when it was first launched, I'm excited to finally have the first real redesign of that form factor and to see what they come up. A black aluminum would be pretty sick.

It's not terribly surprising news since Intel plans to make everything much smaller on the Montevina platform. The Combo drive really needs to die in this day and age. . . .

Hope this wasn't already said, but . . .

Although the Montevina platform will make everything smaller, the initial chipset with the rev. 2 Penryn will have the same thermal dynamics as current laptops. We will have to wait for Nehalem - probably in Jan., 09 - before thermal dynamics drop. I am interested in purchasing the next gen MBP, but this is making me reconsider because if Apple redesigns the next gen of laptops with the next several cycles of CPUs and chipsets in mind, then the thermal dynamics may well be overly high (think: I don't want it on my lap) for the initial design, much like the initial Core Duo models.

Ditto on the combo drive. I expect to see Blu-Ray drives in the MBP and superdrives on all MBs.

Design of MacBook has been here for longer than 2006, except for model name, widescreen and size of screen, this design with white plastic was started in 2001 and previous name was iBook.

please, NO BLACK keyboards and black rims

This is a nightmare. They're going to wreck the beautiful all-silver appearance, and bring in black keyboards and black rims. Look, not everything that is fashionable is beautiful. Remember the gaudy neckties of the 90's. Looking back, we realise how awful they were. Same with thick rim black spectacles, which people think are cool right now. It's just a fashion trend.

I detest black keyboards, and the black rim around the iMac is because they couldn't think of anything else to make a perfect design more perfect.

My ideal - all silver, but with the rounded curves of the MacBook Air.

Compared to the PowerBook --> MacBook Pro change the iBook/MacBook got a serious overhaul. It got much thinner/lighter/easier to use/easy to update/webcam.

Yeah, it's still white and made of polycarbonate, but it's far different than the iBook. The MBP got the same keyboard as the PowerBook, and the biggest change that anyone could pull out of that transition would be the 15" model's underside, and shaving off of a tenth of an inch.

So let me get this straight, different CPU, different keyboard, different screen size, newer technology - iSight, different weight, different dimensions, but same color and you feel it's the same design?

That's like saying that the iPod Mini and the iPod Nano are the same design.

The only thing similar about the iBook and the MacBook is the color and even that is a little different. The MacBook was a huge leap forward in consumer laptop design.

The only thing I feel is weak about it is the GPU and even that is not that bad (it's no MacBook Pro, but...).

Maybe lucky3killer is talking about overall look & feel. I agree since
the current models seem immensely based on the ideology of IKEA
minimalism. Little bit tired of it...though its industrial design leaves
nothing to be desired except that you often take the risk of being
roast chicken with your hands on it. I personally miss Pismo now long
gone.. hope it will return super-thin.

iWant, even though it is only a colour ware it looks sexy... Apple take design hints!

While admittedly pretty sexy, I reckon that colourware makeover makes the MBP look too similar to a Sony Vaio. Don't ask me which model, coz I don't follow the range, but I'm sure I've seen a Vaio at some point which looks pretty close...

As such I hope Apple don't go down that particular route come the revolution-design.

Earth Day is April 22 (northern hemisphere.) I'd be surprised if we don't hear some public statement(s) from Apple (sometime near or on Earth Day) regarding the company's latest "green" computer efforts, future plans and forthcoming design changes...

i think they are definetly gonna make them thinner and i think the macbook pro will get the same keyboard as the macbook air!!

Hopefully they completely change everything bout it!! i am really bored of the silver design!:(
i hate waiting till JUNE

I agree with you on the black keyboard I love the all silver design.
Personally I don't like the MBA design too rounded and whats up with that thick bezel around the screen.
Same thing for that ugly black bezel on the imac.

Honestly I still like the current design of the MBP is very clean and elegant.
I have not seen a better looking pc laptop besides concept designs like the fuel cell LG or the intel concept laptop.

I'm with you on that and I don't think they will.

I hope macbooks will get dedicated graphics card. and perhaps change it down to a 12' screen.

That looks pretty. I think it would be a nightmare if they change the keyboard to black like the air. It doesnt look good or feel good. The all silver matches better.
Now if they come out with more than 1 color MBP. Then if it's white, make it all white, if it's black then make it all metallic black, and if it's silver, keep the silver keypad.
