i hope the new mbp's case is made of carbon not aluminium.
alulimiun is already out and carbon is way lighter.
and black would be fantastic... i am bored of silver

(carbon || titan) > aluminum

btw... My iBook also died last week... The "infamous" logicboard failure. Tried "burning" the gfx chip to reflow the solder but no luck... All I got was a white instead of a black screen :(
So I'm down to one MacBook but I kinda need at least two portables. Meanwhile I revived an old IBM ThinkPad - Man, these things are built rock solid

The lightest most flexible computer is tucked relatively safely in our skull. All we have to do is stamp an Apple on our foreheads and we'll put SJ and Mr. Ive (not "Ives" btw) out of business. ;)

Yeah but it in total weighs eight pounds with that heavy, hard case. Can we get it in a lightweight, bulletproof alloy or something? Seriously (insert your mechanism for biological change here), is that too much to ask?

I doubt they'll make the standard macbook thinner or add a dedicated graphics option. If they did, why would anybody buy a macbook air or a macbook pro? The difference would be so small apart from screen size.
Redesign, not complete overhaul. i would'nt get your hopes up, people.

I think a BTO option for dedicated GFX on the Mac Book wouldn't get in the way of the Air or Pro. Even if you gave the book a 128MB chip, that leaves the pro with a 256 and 512. And the Air would still have the integrated chip.

Do so would kinda make the highest spec Mac Book a 13" Mac Book Pro.

2. I want better battery life. I know this is hard. But come on we've been stuck on 4 hour battery life for ages now. Its time they improved this dramatically.

Hopefully LED lighting will improve battery life. Battery tech seems to be at a standstill almost, and higher battery life will likely come, at least in the near future, from lower power components.

is anyone else with a current gen macbook/pro considering selling up to buy one of the redesigns? i only just got mine, but if the new design specs are vastly superior, i may just consider it..

I could go either way. I always make a good return when I sell my old Macs on eBay that won't make me feel bad in updating merely for design.

If they are going to redesign the MB and MBP, wouldn't it only make sense to do this with a new chip in mind. It doesn't seem right if they are going to keep the current chip in it and simply change the casing. If montevina is supposed to be released in the next few months it seems like putting those in the new designs would be a perfect fit.

Also, about the dedicated video card for the MB, I don't see that happening, it seems like that is one of the main selling points between the MB and MBP, I don't think apple will want to blur that line. Besides, I believe the Montevina is supposed to have the X4500 in it which should drastically improve the MB's graphics and make it tolerable for moderate gamers.

i wont update purely for the design, because the macbooks, as they are, are sexy as anything. but if the speeds of the new ones are considerably better and/or come with a dedicated graphics solution of some sort the tables may turn. as i said earlier though, the improved graphics would render buying a pro almost obselete.
but then, this is assuming theres even going to BE a redesign.

And people have been clamoring for a replacement to the 12" Powerbook for years! I think if they do that, they would make many consumers (myself included) extremely happy!

I have won't but won't trade up for design for the shear point of having a new looking machine. I would say that retarded, but I have seen worse. Either way, a new design with new chips means Rev A, and that brings hardware issues and problems, so I may wait for the two years that I intend to put into this current machine are up, then upgrade when it makes more sense.

Amen.... but we know how that works. If it makes sense then Apple may not even think about it. We are still waiting for that headless quad core mac with upgradeable hardware... and I don't mean that contraption from psy... whatever it is.

as i said earlier though, the improved graphics would render buying a pro almost obselete..

NO!

you know what, you're right. i'll wait until this machines days are numbered, and then buy the even better performing new look macbook and laugh at everyone. thanks for the semi inspiration [:

Not to burst your inspiration... but imagine what machine would be out in a year, instead of 6 months, especially after all the bugs are worked out. :)

new MacBook

Gump05sm.jpg

i saw this on tv today and i've been told it hasn't been pre-recorded, it was live..i've never seen this actor in real life so i really don't know if the new macbook will be 13.3" but it's definitely widescreen, seems like the shape of the keyboard (that's also black like the MBA's) can be shaped by the user's fingertips in order to make happy even the Pro lovers..
To the ones that are probably going to say it's not the new MacBook-you can tell it is because the fan grills and the speakers are covered by the top of the MB and the Apple logo is simply censored like on commercials,at least here, in Italy, Macs are used abusively and there are no Apple products commercials on TV while other commercials use especially Macs, it's quite a sad world.

i would love it...
would it be a mb with highest specs or would it be a mbp with 13" screen...
noone could tell it... too blury
with that u could complete remove one series and just lower the specs and screen size of the mpb.
but still as i said i would love it. thats why i am thinking about buying a sony vaio sz...
carbon case, 13" and a decent graphiccard.
well lets see what the redesign brings.

Forrest Gump-Simpson??? Am I missing something?

The words "timeless" and "classic" come to mind.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The only things I can see that would be good for the MBP casing are making the casing around
the display thinner, which can be done now due to the LED backlighting, and add the magnetic latch (perhaps even as an option)

When they made the switch from the PB to the MBP, they just made slight improvements on size and tweaked a few design features, and I would expectApple to just keep on with that same line of thought

Even though the design is already very nice, timeless and classic, as you put it, Apple must move on. If they don't, it would seem that they have lost their design edge and innovation, which is one of the major selling points of their computers. I hope the new Macbook Pros become more durable like the Macbook Air and use folded aluminum instead of the plastic edge for the corners. Also, many people say that the Macbook won't get a dedicated graphics card. But does that mean that it will have an integrated one forever? Even inexpensive PC laptops are getting dedicated graphics chips (albeit crappy ones) so if Apple follows suit and does the same for Macbooks, how do you suppose they'll differentiate the notebook line? Thoughts?

I think that as long as Intel offers affordable integrated graphics options, Apple will continue to implement them in their low-end systems. Same with integrated audio. Apple is married to Intel right now.

After all my worrying about whether I'll like the new updates for the MBP...I think I have a plan. Assuming there will be an update announcement at WWDC, I'll buy a current MBP days before WWDC. This way I have the option of returning it and then get the updated MBP - If I like it. Otherwise I'll be happy to keep the current MBP. Phew, now I think I can relax a bit.

not a bad idea ...
still i am too lazy... if i dont like the new mb/mbp i buy a sony vaio tz or sz

I don't think you're missing anything, that reminded me of my first Gen MacBook, and if Apple wants to sell more consumer laptops to people that have already had a MacBook or an iBook and it's time for them to change the black one is the only option, gettin the MBA is a bit like downgrading (even though it's a sweet machine and it's upgrade in a few months could slow down a possible redesign for the MB) and not everyone needs a 15" notebook

This is just speculation, but Apple may be moving to a higher def screen and blu ray as an option on the pro line. I think batt life and cost still hold this back- but there are reports that Sony is being aggressive with some vendors to get blu ray in to heir lines. Macbook Pros need to be cutting edge for making video. The fact that hey can't burn a HD movie is putting them far behind. That would allow the MB to get a graphic card upgrade? Just some thoughts.

Having just purchased a MBP, I will wait and see. As others have said, I always sell my laptops on ebay for the cost the I purchased it.

The big problem I see with that is the possibility that Apple won't release a new model at WWDC. We all hope that they do, and lots of poster claim they will and give their opinions on why they think Apple will do it; but lots of times it hasn't happened.

The past three Apple events didn't yield any new machines, and everyone was waiting for updated Mac Pros, MacBook Pros, Mac Minis, and iMacs.

If you buy a few days before WWDC and expect a MBP update to come, or even a redesign (because it is just a rumor) then you may be disappointed, and find yourself waiting a little longer, or Apple may release them after your 14 days are up.

Even though, you could do as a lot of people are doing, buy a machine and sell it to all the suckers on eBay that will buy it for nearly full price after it's a month or more old.
