I really hope they don't downgrade the MBP keyboard to the MacBook/MacBook Air-style keyboard. I hate it and the MacBook Pro keyboard is amazing. I probably type 50% faster on a MacBook Pro than on a MacBook.

About time IMO. I remember someone saying a few months back that Apple kept the basic form factors from the PPC macs they replaced so that people would know they're Macs. But, by now, people have adjusted to Macs being Intel and start getting new cases. I also hope Apple makes their products more competitive. As in more/better features & lower prices. Okay, it takes a bit of money to do research & design cool cases, but all Macs have lousy graphics, slow procs, and super high prices.

Me too! I like it so much better. Plus the backlighting on the MBP keyboard is much better than the MBA.

my case is the direct opposite. I type at least 50% faster on a macbook keyboard. I love the tactile feel.

>the MacBook Pro continues to share a very similar design to the original PowerBook G4 which was introduced in 2001.

Actually, no... It shares a similar design to the Powerbook G4 aluminum which was introduced in 2003.

Or does no one remember the TiBook? I still miss it. It had a certain elegance about it that the AlBook failed to capture. :)

I was going to come on and make both of these points, but I have no need because you have completely taken the words out of my mouth.

[1] The MBP looks like the circa 2003, not 2001 Powerbooks.
[2] The circa 2001 Powerbooks looked a lot nicer than any of their successors to date. Hopefully this next revision changes that.

A new case design is all well and good, but I am interested in what the specs will be for these new books. Blue Ray drive? Better dedicated graphics card? larger HD? faster, better intel chip? Improved leopard OS? Entry price that is attainable in these difficult economic times? A return of the Iconic PBG4 to MBP specs?:D Definitely waiting to see....

Me too. I especially would like to see a BLU-RAY 2.0 SuperDrive specifically and a lower price. I mean, how could you charge two grand for a notebook computer in the first place!?

As for everything but the "PowerBook return" all of those other things will be givens. The question, though, is how much they will expand them.

Cannot afford to mess this up...

... the macbook and MBP rep a major chunk of income for Apple. They cannot afford to mess up the design to the point where people will not buy it.:apple:

It will be interesting to see if Apple will still be obsessed with the thin profile. Also IM curious if they do so, will the battery and memory be user replaceable and with aluminum and stainless steel, wireless range will be equally interesting.

Time will tell! ;)

Generally not news one wants to read right after ordering a refurbished Macbook. However, the Macbook beautifully fits my needs now not my potential wants later. Besides, my white Macbook will be right at home next to my white iMac.

Beyond happy to read this! This is why I didn't buy an MBP two months back. It is time for a redesign of the MBP. I have loved the old PB but time moves on. And a larger track pad for using multi-touch is a no brainer. This summer will be costly for me - MBP, iPhone, and new printer. Just happy I'm selling paintings :)

Maybe ... just maybe .. Apple will attempt to deal with the heat issues on the MBP. Its unbelievable how hot these things get, and its even more unbelievable how many lock ups I get unless I removing my battery during high usage.

Apple, please increase reliability/serviceability

Hopefully, Apple takes this opportunity to improve the MacBook Pro's reliability and serviceability. We have seen a large number of failures with recent PowerBook G4's and MacBook Pro's and are worried by the trend. Apple must improve quality and durability for the newer models.

It's not terribly surprising news since Intel plans to make everything much smaller on the Montevina platform. The Combo drive really needs to die in this day and age. I suggest the newbie users read some of our MacRumors Guides or Google some articles on Centrino/Intel Mobile Platforms. We're not talking about desktop hardware here.

I've shifted the majority of my computation heavy work to my quad core workstation. I don't see a need for something to replace my Mac lappy.

Perfect timing

Perfect timing for that news as I am just starting to plan my upgrades, and a 3 gig PB will be a nice jump, well worth waiting for if they can bring this off, a quad IMac would be nice too

This is just more fuel to the fire without an concrete evidence. I guess EVENTUALLY they will see a design change which will make all the speculation true. I'm waiting for someone to say that they WILL and WHEN and provide EVIDENCE to support the claim. Until then, this isn't a story.
