I guess that the MBP will adopt the keyboard from the Air or the MB. I love the current MBP design, but they haven't been changed for a long time.

Question is - how to change a perfect design ?

Perfect design!?! there are loads of flaws, i want the new type of keyboard :) the auto-dimming screen is pointless because when you are typing the screen flickers as your hands roam over the sensor, it dents easier than a can, the curved screens have caused THOUSANDS of issues, i loved the way apple flogged them off as a design concept.

Dont get me wrong, i LOVE my macbook pro, but it is time for an update, only problem is, i wanted it slimmer, its starting to look a touch chunky (or maybe its me) but apple cant do that too much or the macbook air totally loses appeal.

its a tricky one!!!

...oo and a touch lighter :) carrying my pro around college everyday is hurting my back :p

This is just more fuel to the fire without an concrete evidence. I guess EVENTUALLY they will see a design change which will make all the speculation true. I'm waiting for someone to say that they WILL and WHEN and provide EVIDENCE to support the claim. Until then, this isn't a story.

Actually, it is a story. This is MacRumors.com, not MacHardCoreIndisputableFactsandNothingbuttheFacts.com

How the heck is this news? AI is just throwing this out there hoping it comes true. People have been speculating a redesign for years. Eventually, yes - there will be a redesign.

This just in -- 3G iPhone in 2008! Put me on the front of MR...

Here goes the MB vs. MBP style keyboard arguments...
I'm sure there will be much debate about which is better. But the writing is on the wall. MacBooks have switched to the new style. The wired and wireless desktop keyboards are the new style. The Air uses the new style. You can pretty much bet that the new MBP design will feature something like the AIR has now.

You know, I'm surprised some people hate the MB chiclet style keyboard so much. When I first got it, it did take me awhile to get used to but now I can use it just as effectively as a regular keyboard.

My brother bought a $1299 MB to save some money but he could not stand the keyboard at all. He sold his MB and went for a Pro instead solely because of the keyboard.

I think if Apple uses the chiclet style for the Pro line a lot of people are going to be unhappy.

How likely do people reckon it is that Montevina = redesign? I recall people saying that they were going to hold it back for Nehalem— I need to get a MacBook Pro no later than the beginning of September, and a friend of mine's getting a MacBook in the summer but will wait if I tell him a redesign is coming…

It would be nice to also see more than trackpad and shell tweaks.

No plastic bezel on MBP.

MBA type feet that dont fall off.

Mag-latch.

Track pad is iPod touch screen allowing me access to everything through it.

Megapixel iSight camera.

Better battery life please.

Better sound.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing Apple do a second line of smaller F buttons so that I can make better use of Leopard features like Spaces and still have my laptop specific keys.

Microphone near the iSight not on the keyboard/speakers where it picks up noise.

Digital TV/radio tuner? Probably only a small % of the market of buyers.

What about finally getting GPS...although that really should be in the iPhone.

As a PB user I was envious of the MBA's screen, keyboard, track-pad, and magnetic latch. I'm sure these will all come to the next MBP, and maybe even improved upon.

Well I'm sure glad I just got my MacBook. I really love the white MacBook's, and have always loved Apple's white products since the iBook G4. However, I can understand wanting to change the design. The MacBook design is really just and updated adoption of the iBook G4's overall design, which dates back to October 2003.

As for the MacBook Pro, I agree its time for a redesign. I have always loved the timeless look of it, but I think it is time has run out. It's clear most people love the MacBook/MacBook Air keyboard, and combine that with a kick ass new case design and Apple will sell tons of 'em.

Funny now half the people who were desperately waiting and complaining that the MBP was long overdue the Penryn revision will be upset that something new could be coming so soon and wish they had waited even longer to get the Montevina/new case designs this summer.

Haha.

I hope they design a sturdy feeling case like the air, with no plastic trim along the edges.

I think i'm going to see a black macbook style keyboard in the future pros like the one present in the air. And i do hope they move the microphone. When i'm trying to record lectures, it is unacceptable that i hear my own keystrokes.

They had plenty of warning if they did some research or at least paid attention to Page 1 MacRumors. :p

Hah. I agree. I tend to be one of those 'I'm gonna wait' kind of guys, but when it came down to buying my MBP, I jumped right in and got what suited my needs at the time.

It's silly to wait - especially if you're in need.

Now, if they make the Macbook Pro's suck, I'm gonna be terribly disappointed - even if I don't buy one :)

I don't know what to think. I have been waiting for a while (though not needing to buy anything). I need a laptop by the middle of September, sooner would be better. If the new design was to be released in Q8, that should mean that the last month an update would be released would be September. I migh not even care that much about an update, but I would like to have the newest when I buy.

I prefer the plastic!

I know I'm in the minority but I prefer the plastic for practical reasons:
1. It's more durable. My husband dropped his Al PowerBook G4 while it was in its case, and it still dented.

2. The plastic doesn't have hot spots like the metal.

3. Wireless reception is apparently better.

So, I'm glad I just got my new Penryn MacBook...I actually feared that the most recent revision would be a case redesign.

I will never replace my MBP if they redesign it to have the ugly Air black keyboard. Yuck

The current design of the mbp still looks better than most pcs.
The new black keyboard on the mba looks cheap to me and breaks the clean all silver design.
Also the really round corners on the mba and the thick bezel around the screen look bad.
Also good luck to all the people that will get the redesign when it comes out. They will have to deal with all the bugs of a major redesign.
