she is right yes....:(
unfortunately she is right....

fixed it for you ;)

also, i couldn't take the wait any longer (been waiting since rumours in Jan and the actual announcement was the Air, which unfortunately wouldn't meet my needs). since the waiting was killing me, i was dying to start using a mac, so i purchased an iMac hehe :D (which i hope won't get updated and dont think they will because they are the latest to get refreshed and i like the look so a re-design wouldn't bother me even though its unlikely).

truth is tho, as much as that wait was frustrating (from jan-onwards) its almost just as fun as getting it...:apple:

i beleive macbook changes are going to come, but not until after the promo, and probably in september.
i strongly feel that Apple is doing inventory clean-out with college students because unlike before where it was just a speed bump, etc and no major re-design, people weren't as concerned (those outside macrumors, general public).
however, i feel that with the re-design Apple wants to get rid of as much stock as possible with this excellent back to school promo in order to prepare for the new macoboks (the general public notices the case change rather than the specs, chips, etc).As well, with montevina delay, i don't see macbooks coming out earlier than july 14.
i'm holding off until september-october to purchase my macbook =)
thats true :(:apple:

I bought my 15" MBP on Saturday with a Dell 24" and sold my iMac since I expect the MBP to be delayed until August, myself, and I need a new laptop now.

Just been playing around on the Colorware site, and I've got a good feeling that the new MacBook's gonna look like this.

Oh i like that. I like the current black macbooks to though. And if that refresh doesn't come on monday (Which im really doubting it will) then next saturday that shiny new blackbook will be all mine :)

So assuming we don't get a new MB design at the WWDC this week, does that mean there won't be a major redesign before MacWorld in January? Or would Apple make a major announcement like this at a different time? I'm in the market for a new MB and I can wait until August-ish but if it's going to be 2009 then I'll buy a Penryn MB now.

The MacBook refresh has now been rumored for August/September so if Apple is going to do anything special with the MBP, it will likely be just before then.

Iam thinking of a sort of black aluminum for the MBP... but I dont even know if this is possible.

As for me I hate the Macbook Air black keyboard. It doesnt fit at all with the alu case.. plainly weird

The free iPod Touch "Back to Campus" deal ends September 3rd. It seems unlikely that Apple would introduce new MB's or MBP's before this date because they'd be out $300 on a good portion of them. This deal seems like a good way of clearing out the current model for an introduction of new laptops in Q4.

Last year's MBP came out in June. New iPods (touch/classic/3G nano) came out in September right in the middle of the UK's Back to School campaign. I don't think it matters too much.

i'm guessin' it will be updated in august with their own special event like last year with the imac.

it's slated to be that way with at least the mbp when you look at the buyers guide

If you need a MB at the moment, go ahead and buy one. I still don't think those waiting months will be getting THAT MUCH MORE than what they would be getting right now

There will always be those rumors of upgrades in the future

The MB's now are still fantastic purchases and well-worth the price

This is where things get sticky for me, my Powerbook G4 that I'm on right now has run me through the ringer in terms of falling apart these past few months. The need to update is greater than ever with the fall semester approaching and I need something to take its place.

Thing is I don't want to buy into this Back To School deal, because I know as soon as I make the purchase in late August they are going to announce something new with better specs. In all honesty I can wait for the revision to come about, but as long as it takes place around September/October it all should be good.

I've heard many different things form different people, but what are the odds of the new Macbooks coming out this fall?

Thanks....that was very helpful. I'm new to this 'guessing when a new model will be unveiled' game, so it's good to know that major models are introduced outside of those 2 events.

It's not so much that I need one at the moment...I just happen to really be drooling right now because I went MB shopping with a friend. I'm currently using a 2001 Powerbook G4 667mhz which is really due for a replacement but I've waited 7 years so I can certainly wait a few more months. I guess I'll wait and see what happens this summer. If nothing has been announced by late August (when the Back to School deal ends) then I'll likely grab the current MB.

sorry if this was asked already but what are the chances the new mbp will come with an option for an extra hdd instead of the superdrive? god that would be sweet

I would say about 0%. FireWire has enough juice to run a 2.5" HDD in an enclosure, so there is really no general need for having two HDDs in a laptop.

I did a bit of reading on the release dates of the different MacBook incarnations and compared those to the release dates of the Intel chips they were based on. Some of the exact dates were a bit hard to find but roughly, the MacBooks were released 1.5 to 4 months after the chip's release.

Intel's next release, the Montevina platform, is scheduled for July 14, 2008 which is a delay from the original date of June 3-7th. This chipset is almost certainly going to be the basis for the next incarnation of the MacBook from what I've been reading.

This next bit is pure speculation on my part, but since this is a rumours site I'll let 'er fly. My guess is that Apple was aiming to release it's new MB's 2-3 months (since that's about average) after the Montevina platform's original release date of June 3-7th. This would put the release date of the new MBs sometime in August, 2008.

While the release date for the new chips has been delayed by 5 weeks, I don't think the new MB's will be delayed as radically, because the chip delays were not caused by problems with the actual chip (major delay was FCC certification) so Apple has likely had lots of these chips on hand to design with.

As well, the other major changes to the MacBooks (i.e. visual design) would not have been affected by this delay so all that stuff is likely ready to go now or very close to it.

Accordingly, my guess is that the new MacBooks will be released 1.5-2 months after the July 14th release of the Montevina platform. That puts the new MB release date at early to mid September, which nicely coincides with the end of the 'Back to Campus' deal (ends Sept 3rd). My guess is that we'll see the new MB's on Sept 9th, 2008.

My expectations for the next version of the MacBook are:

1) Speed bumps to 2.26mhz (low model) and 2.5 or 2.6mhz (upper MBs). This seems very likely since the Penryn 2 chip which is almost certainly going to be used is good for 2.26-3.06 Ghz. The MBP's will get the 2.8's and 3.0's leaving the MB's with the 2.26 and 2.5 or 2.6 variants.

2) Decent increase in battery life as a result of the LED screen and a decrease in processor power demand. The Penryn 2 chips supposedly maxes out at 29w, whereas the current Penryn chip uses up to 34w.

3) Modest increases in HDD size. I'm guessing 160g, 200g and 250g but HDD's did increase nicely with the last revision (80, 120, 160 increased to 120, 160, 250) so I don't think we'll see too much more since that update was pretty recent.

4) Super nice visual update (ala MBA). This is really what I'm hoping for. MacBooks (and iBooks) haven't changed much for years and I'd hate to wind up with a computer that looks outdated when it's a few months old when I've waited this long (7 years).

5) 2 gigs of RAM standard. Maybe 4 gigs on the upper model.

6) Larger trackpad that supports gestures.

I love all of those except number 6. I love the size of the trackpad on the MB currently. Gestures is a given of course:D:apple:

Is there any chance they will update/redesign the MacBook this week? I am considering buying a Black 2.4 MacBook.
