Hmm, I hope they don't change the MBP's design too much - it's still the best looking notebook computer out there IMHO. I'm not a fan of the MBA's design - it looks too pointy - and the MB is just 'meh'.

It seems like people want the black aluminum so here you go people :)

A.That is really nice one con i can think of is if there will be grease those back lit keys will be dark and nasty.

the mb and mm need a design upgrade. Make them match with the pro lineup.

but... they're not the Pro lineup.

Nope, but I think they should match the other consumer offering, the iMac. Aluminum is kinda in, though I hope not at the cost of signal strength for WiFi.

why do so many people hate the power button on the speaker? I think it looks nice and well integrated.
I don't like it because it gets in the way of the speakers. IMO, it looks out of place. But it's okay if you think otherwise, just an opinion.

I believe, power button-less computers are a way of the future ;) lol

iMacs don't move.

By Apple's own definition:
...since MacBook is sure to become your constant companion, a durable polycarbonate shell keeps it ready for the rough and tumble of everyday life.

- they'd lose that in aluminium. :apple: fanboy zeal always neglects to account for real world application (many, many Edu purchases), product distinction / brand identity, thus - no alu MacBooks. Ever. Called it. :p

Hmmm...

Ok so I want some thoughts here.

I see some mock ups and they look like a good combo between the mbp and the air.

Now I think (and I wonder who else thinks this) but apple wont try to make it thinner because the air is specific for travel so why make a competition in the company?

tell me your thoughts

They can't make it thinner without reducing/removing functionality anyway, as evidenced by the MacBook Air's comparably paltry offerings. Certain physical attributes (port size, optical drive size) will always limit design in that regard.

We're less then two weeks from WWDC and not a peep (to my knowledge) about this rumored new MacBook Pro design from "the field". Now I know the emphasis is on trying to scoop the 3G iPhone, but you'd think we'd have seen something about the MBP if it was coming by WWDC as originally rumored...

personally, I think it'd be great to see an aluminium macbook with an Led screen, all macbooks having superdrives, each macbook with 2gb ram and a speed bump. To get around decreased wifi range, surely apple could put a subtle piece of plastic somewhere with the wifi antenna behind it, much like the bit of plastic on the ipod touch. Just a thought.

...That would require a pricepoint do-over. Never mind actual component costs, but Apple currently want you to pay an extra £130/$200 to "upgrade" to 2GB, SuperDrive + an extra 300MHz/40GB. I'd anticipate maybe a £50/$50 baseline price hike in order to see those as standard.

Hey, don't go calling me a fanboy. Try not going with your gut reaction when you're about to make a post next time.

I do agree that they would probably be less durable by going to call aluminum enclosures. I think Apple could pull off matching the style of the iMacs without losing durability, however, perhaps by keeping plastic but simply moving to a different look. It's also possible that they could go to a aluminum MacBook without worrying about your ideas of what real world application entails. After all, the MacBook Pro's and MacBook Air's aren't exactly designed to sit on a desk all the time either, they're powerful, portable machines, and they've done fine with aluminum (with the previously mentioned caveats taken into account).

Sure, it would increase the costs but with the falling cost of hardware I think it's possible. Having said that, I would be prepared to pay an extra £50 for a better machine, and anyway, the price can't stay at £699 forever what with inflation etc and all this "credit crunch" talk. But we have to remember that apple hardware is overpriced as it is, I don't think they'd lose money by putting in better hardware, they'd just have decreased profits. So I wouldn't be surprised if he prices increased slightly.

Just been playing around on the Colorware site, and I've got a good feeling that the new MacBook's gonna look like this.

That looks pretty cool. Bring on aluminum macbooks!! I currently have a white macbook that is just two years old and its casing is falling apart. Im sick of the plastic.

Try not to be so offended all the time - I wasn't even referring to you. I have a big blue Apple for an avatar fer chrissakes. Everyone here is a fanboy.

Stuck

So I seem to be in a rut not bout design because I think bot the mb and the mbp are over all good deigns. None the less I will be buying a mac this summer and making the switch. I dont know if i should buy a macbook or a macbook pro by reading some thing online it seems like with the mb ill be getting a cheap product but with the mbp ill be getting heat issues and loss of wireless.
Im a student dont really need the power of the pro its a good computer that will last.
So I ask to those who own the products if you chose the pro would you go to a mb and vice versa
thanks

My concern as well. I've asked this before on this site and didn't get an answer: Is there any precedent for a major apple product being updated any buzzing at all in the rumor community a few weeks in advance?

I own both a white mid 2007 Combo Drive MacBook and a new MacBook Pro. I also owned the original BlackBook. Both MacBooks suffered peeling/cracking of the plastic case, it's a pretty well-known problem but Apple fix it with no fuss if it occurs.

The MBP gets no hotter than the MacBook does and I don't notice any difference in wireless strength either. The MacBook was capable as a main machine but I wanted a matte finish and to be able to drive any display. I had also purchased two triple-interface 500GB external HDs and wanted to use the fastest fw800 option, all of which kind of necessitated a MBP purchase. :)

The only former barrier was price or I'd have purchased a MBP long ago. The newest machine with Penryn 2.4GHz and 256MB GPU as standard finally agreed with my wallet. :)

For you I'd recommend a MacBook. Sounds like you don't really need the extras the MBP offers.

Hmm whilst I like this picture, I doubt there'll be a black frame round the edge of the display, just as I doubt this'll happen to the MacBook Pro neither.

And as somebody else said, yeah this complete lack of any news whatsoever from the field is kinda worrying. I mean when we thought the MacBook Air was coming, we were inundated by pictures, some of which turned out to be the real thing. Aluminium MacBooks? Surely we'd have heard at least a whisper about them by now? Same goes for the MacBook Pros; if the worlds most spectacular portable powerhouse was undergoing cosmetic treatment, don't you think we'd have seen something of the New Look? (besides the awesome graphics you guys are coming up with)

All this adds up to one thing. I am going to be really, really disappointed. I was really hoping for a new MacBook Pro design before my birthday in July. Looks like I'm just going to have to pine after a speed bump to 2.5GHz on the low end MacBook Pro and 2.6GHz standard on the high end.
