We're less then two weeks from WWDC and not a peep (to my knowledge) about this rumored new MacBook Pro design from "the field". Now I know the emphasis is on trying to scoop the 3G iPhone, but you'd think we'd have seen something about the MBP if it was coming by WWDC as originally rumored...

Indeed, there would have been much more buzz. I knew that it wouldn't come by then anyway, since in recent years Apple hasn't done too many brand new design/product releases if there isn't some new technology or feature behind it.

The MBA got play because of it's breakthrough thinness and custom processor. The redesigned MBP/MB may not come until MWSF (one hopes) and probably not until there is a brand spanking new tech to put into it either.

Yea one would think that there would be at least some chatter about new updates with WWDC only 5 days away....leads me think that unless every rumor site completely dropped the ball we're not going to be seeing anything.

It would be funny to watch the stream only to find out that there is a new, redesigned MacBook/MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini Pro (headless tower), a new multi-touch tablet that looks nothing like the iPod Touch, 10.6 sneak peak, and the "one last thing" being new updated ACDs (still IPS and priced accordingly).....

But NO iPhone 3G!

I think I'd laugh my @$$ off.

As would I. And then I'd go out and buy it all. Wait...

*gasp* That's Steve's plan!

That would be frickin' hilarious! Although... I think my Mini would throw a hissy fit if there was a Mini Pro poor thing.

To be honest, I'm bored of the iPhone. I just want a new MacBook Pro. Even if it is as unlikely as the rebirth of the 12" PowerBook.

Scrap that. I want a 13" (fits in with the current small screen theme) MacBook Pro and I want it now.

Apple still has a link for the "New Macbook Pro" on their homepage. If they were planning on updating them in a few days I don't think this would still be there....unless the update is going to be the "New, New Macbook Pro".

I think Monday I'm walking into the apple store to buy the same one I could have bought months ago.

So would I, but only because I don't own Apple stock because the market morons will assume no new iPhone means Apple's doomed (totally missing all the new hardware that will have folks like us spending five figures that evening) and cause a run on the stock.

Yeah, I am praying that the stock stays where it is until I can get enough dough to put some cash in that area of the market.

if apple was gonna change them at WWDC, then they wouldve waited to do the student deal. Any design change is not coming for a month or two now.

or they would do it to deplete the old supplies.......:apple:

what i would love to see is aluminum macbooks, ideally with a backlit keyboard but im not sure how likely that is. just wondering, all you mbp owners, how useful is the backlit keyboard? im waiting to see if wwdc or july/august timeframe brings anything to the notebook lineup, but i want to know if its a really great feature of the mbp or just a nice, rarely used wow factor

I own both a white mid 2007 Combo Drive MacBook and a new MacBook Pro. I also owned the original BlackBook. Both MacBooks suffered peeling/cracking of the plastic case, it's a pretty well-known problem but Apple fix it with no fuss if it occurs.

The MBP gets no hotter than the MacBook does and I don't notice any difference in wireless strength either. The MacBook was capable as a main machine but I wanted a matte finish and to be able to drive any display. I had also purchased two triple-interface 500GB external HDs and wanted to use the fastest fw800 option, all of which kind of necessitated a MBP purchase. :)

The only former barrier was price or I'd have purchased a MBP long ago. The newest machine with Penryn 2.4GHz and 256MB GPU as standard finally agreed with my wallet. :)

For you I'd recommend a MacBook. Sounds like you don't really need the extras the MBP offers.

Awesome thanks for that now black or white, so many options:rolleyes:
thanks again

Macbook's down in price?

I have just done a price check on the Macbook in White.
A white Macbook with a 4gb memory and a 250 gb hard drive {top spec!} is now only £969.00 and the last time i checked the price with the same spec it was £1,169 or there about.
I see a NEW MACBOOK on it's way,why else would the current model be so low in price?

I would laugh for a good 5 minutes and then start to cry, because I really want to see that 3G iPhone. Although, a multi-touch tablet sounds nice now that I am looking to get a new machine for college next year.

Apple doesn't have anything to do with this as they use the latest tech that Intel provides to them and everyone else except for the Mini which lags behind.

Without sounding like an A$$. I hate it when people make excuses for apple's lack of cutting edge technology. Don't get me wrong I am an apple cultist, and will never own a windows computer.

Here is the thing... Everyone says that it is never apple's fault for the lack of access to certain technology because "the part provider doesn't give them access to it." Hmmmm lets think about who we are talking about... if apple wants it they get it.

The technology is available its whether or not apple wants to utilize it or not. This goes along the same lines as the fact that there is a lack of SLI or even a mid between the 512 8800gt and the 1.5 GB (really expensive).

I personally don't believe that manufactures are refusing to make technology available for apple to use... I believe that if people are buying the product anyway why would apple spend the extra money on the higher end stuff.

I have a Mac Pro and a MBP and I absolutely love them but It would be nice if they wouldn't come out with monster gaming machine or something super powerful despite size I would spend the extra money to get an up to date newest tech apple rather than the current tech gonna be outdated stuff sooner than later apples.

Just a thought

Rumors say there will be one in late August or early September. Of course, they also said a new MacBook Pro is coming next week. ;)

With the delays in the Montevina platform's X4500 GPU until mid-July, and assuming Apple will use that GPU in the MacBook, they can't release a new model till around then, anyway...

It's not a GPU, it's a chipset. But, yes, your theory is correct... except...

Apple doesn't use Intel wireless or integrated graphics. Some MacRumorites are entertaining the theory that the MacBook Pro will get Montevina immediately (read: at the Keynote) because the delays don't affect us.

I'm all for that.

Yes, Montevina is a chipset, but it is also a platform. And the X4500 GPU is part of that platform. :)

And the question was about the MacBook, not the MacBook Pro. I do not expect the MacBook to move to a discrete GPU, but instead stay with the integrated Intel product. And that means it should be the X4500. And the X4500 is being delayed due to an errata error.

Intel also announced the x45 series of desktop chipsets today. I expect the mobile ones would have been announced, as well, if not for the WiFi and GPU issues, but that does not mean Apple is not getting them behind the scenes.

i beleive macbook changes are going to come, but not until after the promo, and probably in september.
i strongly feel that Apple is doing inventory clean-out with college students because unlike before where it was just a speed bump, etc and no major re-design, people weren't as concerned (those outside macrumors, general public).
however, i feel that with the re-design Apple wants to get rid of as much stock as possible with this excellent back to school promo in order to prepare for the new macoboks (the general public notices the case change rather than the specs, chips, etc).As well, with montevina delay, i don't see macbooks coming out earlier than july 14.
i'm holding off until september-october to purchase my macbook =)

I hate to say this but I think you're right. Man, the waiting is gonna kill me..
