Timmy wants That Watch to work, so bad! His Legacy! And the Bands! The Bands! Apple can't innovate, Phil Schiller's Ass!
This is all too pathetic.

So, why don't you PayPal me $80 -- no big deal, right?

Nuts. 60 bucks off is a great discount. They're not overpriced, and the proof is that people will buy them up. I know I just got another as a gift due to this great price and free overnight shipping.

Everybody wants stuff for free. Easy to say what the price should be when it's not your product and profit.

I like how you think in extremes. I say they should charge less and to you that translates to me thinking $80 is nothing and should be just thrown around and that I want a free product.

Who said anything about wanting something free? The watches are overpriced to begin with. They cost roughly $80-90 to make so to justify refurbished or retail pricing off production cost is not helping your case especially when they have versions of these that cost upwards of $1,000. Not to mention that unlike true luxury watches, these will rapidly depreciate in value over time and will never retain anywhere near the purchase price. $40 off to have a used product that's been fixed isn't a great deal. If you think it is, I'd hate to see what happens to you if you go to purchase a used car.

What on earth are you talking about? It was an overnight billion-dollar business. I've worn mine every single day since launch and see them all over the place.

After one year of use, this has been my experience as well. I wear mine everyday.

Also, I belong to a nice gym, and many members are wearing AW. There is wifi throughout the facility, so you can leave your big iPhone in the locker and still pick up notifications on your AW. One advantage of the AW over cheaper fitness trackers is that you can give brief replies to messages if necessary.

My original AW sports edition was bought as a gift last xmas from BB for $100 off...so $300. If I keep it for 2 more years, that's about $8/month.....two cappuccinos. Is an AW absolutely necessary....nope. But, neither are the cappuccinos. And, the AW helps me stay fit.....the cappuccinos not so much.

Very happy with my S1 for $229 + $20GC (new) from Target :)

I just spent $120 for a Fitbit for my daughter....you got a much better deal! There is no comparison. I would have bought her an AW instead, but she is in college and thinks it's too much......idealistic youth!:)

They are totally overpriced. They sell because thats the price point. They get returned because people are smart and the bang for buck is not there. Why else does Apple not show return rates.

Overpriced, yes. They don't just sell because that's the price, they sell because the Watch has a multitude of tendencies that appeal
To every one differently, aside from being a premium piece of hardware.

If there is no return rates released by Apple, then it's safe to assume there is no evidence supporting your statement "They get returned because People are smart and the bang for buck is not there." Options are limited for the Apple Watch competitors, you have Garmin, Fitbit and the Gear S3. It's not as if there is a plethora of wearable tech on the market other than those major competitors.

My assumption is that if the Apple Watch is returned, it's likely due to the fact that the user did not appreciate or use all the features that were available.

You raised her well :) most college youth I know would absolutely jump on the offer !!

I don't disagree with you, but do you think refurb iphones haven't been in the bathroom and witnessed horrors?

Refurbished "Wearables" just sounds bad, like used underwear. I can at least pretend in my mind that an iPhone stayed in the pocket perhaps. However, a watch ... thats in much more proximity to the event horizon of horrors.

There seems to be something very unhygienic about wearing a previously owned watch from a stranger on your wrist. Yeah, they can be sterilized, but it's kinda nasty. Eeeew
Refurbished wearables .... gross. I don't care how many times it was scrubbed and sanitized, doesn't change that these have been in the bathroom and witnessed horrors ;)
From my experience, Apple seems to put a new outer shell on their refurb products and just keep the (tested and - where necessary - repaired) innards. So chances are, that the parts of the watch touching your skin have never touched other people's wrist before.

I don't know I if I want a series 1, series 2 doesn't seem much better/different.
  • GPS
  • Waterproofing
  • Ceramic back also on Al
  • Brighter display (1000 nits vs 450nits)
  • Bigger battery (~30%)

My 1st gen Moto 360 [...] is a much more attractive watch (the "flat tire" is a big negative, but the Apple watch has four flat tires, so...)
Taste is very personal, but that comparison is off. The "flat tire" pretty much destroys the roundish look on the Moto360, whereas the AW is designed as rectangle. Besides - I found the 360 to be far too clunky on the wrist. The AW is almost airy in comparison. And somehow the screen on the 360 looked faded / washed out to me (lowres and pale colours).

Three things will fix it:
1) Completely rethink the design. It needs to be round, with edge-to-edge screen.
No. Round may appeal better to some, but it'd come with severe impairment on usability/functionality. If Apple ever releases a round AW, I hope it'll be an option, not a subtitution for the rectangular one.

2) Stainless steel, waterproof, and priced at $250.
$250 is unrealistic currently. Perhaps if real competition will rise and technology marches forward, but even then: Apple is not known to really lower price points on their products once the've been established. They rather put more features in for the same price. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I guess the current price points will stay more or less the same for the coming years.

3) Allow developers to make their own watch faces.
I'm sure Apple is well aware after their experience with the iOS AppStore and its effect on the iPhone and other iDevices. But so far the AW hard- and software has been beta at best and allowing too much 3rd party on one of the most crucial interface parts could have led to unwanted side effects:

Problems with poorly crafted watch faces would have been attributed to Apple and the AW instead of the watch face programmer, thus leading to a bad reputation. Plus, being marketed as fashion item, Apple would not want to have Zombie faces or other strange or kinky stuff to appear on the AW. At least not yet.

I'd expect Apple to open up the AW more to 3rd party once the platform is stable enough and better established on the market. watchOS 4 or 5 might be good candidates.

How do you know this? More specifically, do you have Probable cause to prove it's a failure?
Yeah it's a failure in many countries, the reason is expensive more like a gimmick, meanwhile I was planning to get one but bought new iPhone 5s (silver) instead and saved a lot of money, Now I have four iPhones :D

Things are only gimmicks if you don't use what it provides.

If you have a ton of notifications like every 2 mins like i do it a must have. Just like its a must have to check my football scores on the go or check meeting appointments. it's great for fitness and steps from going out on walks and now it's a must have in the gym for my air pods.

So like anything if you use the features then it's a must have.

Even if I wanted to buy one, the super price of the MBP didn't leave me with any extra to purchase other Apple products

$229 for a 38mm Series 1 refurb?

I bought a *brand new* 38mm Series 1 watch last night at Target for $199.

$229 isn't too bad.

Dammit, I hate you for pointing out this sale.

Now I'm gonna be hovering over this cart all day long deciding whether or not I want this thing.

If there are a lot of returns I really don’t know what people were expecting from the Apple Watch. I’m not highly social, don’t always have my face buried in my iPhone, and don’t have a job that demands tech leashes, but I absolutely love my Apple Watch. If anything it has inspired me to use the software that was available long before the Apple Watch existed.

I use Maps more than I ever did on just the iPhone, vibrating just before your next turn or exit is brilliant. I also use the Calendar, Reminders, and Timer/Alarm more than I did before. My phone has pretty much been on vibrate only since cell phones existed. I loath ring tone announcements, mine and especially everybody else’s. As you can imagine that has caused me to miss many calls and texts. No longer an issue with the Apple Watch vibrating.

I wonder why Target (or any other retailer), don't have sales on the Series 2 watch.
They can't get them apple is having low yields on them. I am surprised to see the refurbished models so quick. I suppose they have a glut of return / defective OS models laying around and why not turn a quick buck.

I bought a series 2 refurb. Replaces the series 2 I already had that fell off my wrist into the ocean while surfing...never to be seen again. Looks like all the aluminum series 2 refers are sold out, only stainless steels left (and plenty of series 1)
