Ph0rk...I gather Logic is not your major

Infringe the copyright of, not steal - and people have been doing that for quite some time. Attempting to call them out and make it some sort of moral issue isn't going to work, especially over the intertubes.

You are converting a property that does not belong to you. That is theft of that property. Infringement IS theft.

you do know you can get your education discount in the apple store, right?

Apparently not at the NY 5th Ave Apple Store. When I went there a few weeks ago, I was told that I need to order software online to get discount. Hardware they are able to discount. No idea why there's a disdinction, but that's what I was told when I checked out. Since I get free shipping, I told her forget it and I ordered it online for the discount. :)

So just to get this clear "Delivers on October 26"

Does this mean we get our copy on October 26 or it ships on October 26, it seems like everyone is saying different stuff....

Doing a Command + F (find) for the word "iPhone" on this page turns up 2 results but only one is visible?! what gives...

admission:
...srry if this has already been posted in this thread.... I haven't ready thorugh all 100 pages of posts yet but im working at it :)

It's picking up "iPhone" in the menu at the top of the page, which is hidden thanks to some CSS.

Just ordered off Apple's site for Sun Employees for $107.10 and free shipping. Leopard next Friday!

It means it will be delivered on Oct. 26th. With Tiger, some orders were delivered a day early.

A total vectorized GUI.

please explain... I know what vector graphics are from using Illustrator and other such software, are you saying the entire OS would be essentially drawn with vector graphics that would look as good no matter how big or small it is?

October 26th

I am baffled by all the questions about when, how, where people can get hold of Leopard. It's very straightforward, Apple has announced it will be available on October 26th, therefore you will be able to get it on.......
OCTOBER 26TH!!! Why is that so hard?

ph0rk...stay out of a court room

because making a copy (or downloading a copy) does not remove the original. You have not physically taken a CD from someone. Until intellectual property and copyright law change, the two (physical theft and copyright infringement) are legally distinct, whatever you feel about that morally.

However, given your argument I can only assume you are trolling or an RIAA/MPAA shill.

Right. So if you only take one five dollar bill from a pile of bills, it's not theft because there's still more there. Spend more time on your studies and don't attempt to practice law in any form.

Yes. It would really help with different screen resolution sizes, in terms of view the GUI.

I can pre-order leopard through my university tech store for $69, much better deal than Apple's educational discount.

You'd need to spend some time inside the system to know how unintentionally laughable it is to rely on that data for anything.

I have. In what capacity have you spent time inside the system?

Do the field work... next time a school district posts an opening, call and see how many qualified applicants applied. It will be 100x the number of openings.

Depends on the school district. I'm sure there are some that get many applications, but are they all qualified? And most people looking for a job send out tons of applications, the number of people willing to take that job are much much much lower. It's the same way with any poorly paying job.

At the current level of qualification, anyone with a certificate can teach. That means the equilibrium wage is much, much lower than it would be if actual qualifications were enforced, because the more qualified individuals have a better BATNA (Best Alternative To A Negotiated Agreement) and can afford to walk away.

So what "actual qualifications" would you require instead? If you don't think having a certificate is adequate, what is the higher standard, other than just adding more certificates?

That's exactly right. I know someone who is trying to get a teaching job and it's hard. while the number is not quite 100x, it is about 50x, no kidding.

I think you both are arguing from a false premise that all school districts are equal. A well funded, high test scoring school will be the target of many teachers while poor schools/communities suffer from lack of enthusiastic applicants, hence the gov stepping in to forgive student loans for new teachers who agree to teach there.

That's exactly what I said before - teaching jobs aren't competitive overall, the GOOD teaching jobs are what is competitive. It varies widely based on the district. There are some schools that pay very well, and all the teachers want to work there. I'll bet your teacher friend isn't willing to look at the lowest paying schools and schools in dicey neighborhoods, if they did I bet it wouldn't be nearly so hard.

The fact that teachers are wholly underpaid is one of the biggest myths out there. Heck, they make more than nurses & chemists. Crazy.

Nurses are way underpaid as well. But I still haven't found any stats that put teachers above either. Source? And would be so crazy about teachers making more than chemists? Is the work a chemist does really more important than giving kids a good education?

Yes. It would really help with different screen resolution sizes, in terms of view the GUI.

That's a very cool concept, it would mean that if you so wished (as my brother actually does) you could hook your Macbook up to your 46" widescreen LCD TV and it would still look as great as it does on your 14" screen. I wonder if they plan to add it later in an updated?

Well it's announced so..

when you install Leopard use the revamped dictionary to find out ;)

Wait a sec...for some people it will be delivered on the 25th and others on the 26th? WTF?????

I just called in an they aren't offering a lower rate on edu price if you call in. It's the same as what the site says... Either way we shouldn't complain Windows users pay double or triple what we have to pay for our new OS.

Oh... my head... Try being the head of a family of four with a mortgage and self-employed with the headaches of healthcare insurance and taxes and daycare, pre-school, and getting the recycling out on Monday morning...
...and still paying off educational loans from an education that ended over 10 years ago.

I still legitimately qualify for the edu discount as an educator, and took it on my Leopard order. However, I would have gladly paid full price if they eliminated it altogether. Those students out there who think they are the only ones "just scraping by"...it never really changes. You always have to set your priorities and decide what you need versus what you want, and sometimes you just simply need to be satisfied with what you have.

Set $1 aside every day and you'll have that extra $36 by Thanksgiving.
