Let's look at the bright side to all of this here:
1) Apple cant charge us an arm and a leg for something that has been on the market that is cheaper from Belkin or Morphie or even Samsung
2) I am willing to bet that several of us on this board would have ran out and bought it just cause it was Apple.
3) Apple realized that it wasn't going to be that much of a money maker especially with cheaper versions on the market already.

Would honestly not be surprised if they face multiple lawsuits. This is the lowest point in Apple history since the Gil Amelio era.

Are you sure those those kinds of wireless chargers will charge with Apple Watch and Airpods too, all at the same time? It only lists phones on the item description page, and I've been burned before.
lol yes. I'm sure if you spend 5 minutes researching, you will learn so much and save so much money.

Here's a thread for you: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/wireless-charging-for-iphone-airpods.2137392/

They even make so with a vertical watch stand-up you don't even have to do it the way Apple wants you to do it.

This coupled with the "new" AirPods is a pretty ****** move by Apple. AirPower should have been cancelled last year and the AirPods 1.0000000001 should have been released last year as well.

Another dud like the HomePod. Glad they let it go. Who doesn’t already have multiple wireless chargers??
Homepod sales jumped up huge this holiday season. Just bought one. And why would you have multiple wireless chargers? I have one that collects dust and is more of a novelty than anything.

Ahhhhhhh noooo way, I was so looking forward to this, damn it Apple!

Ok, let‘s sum up. I find the theory that they wanted to release those new AirPods together with the AirPower last Autumn plausible. Something didn’t work out with AirPower so they had to push everything back and gave the engineers a little bit more time. They were hoping till the last moment that they would make it, maybe even went into production, and then units came out of the factory and caught fire or something. So in the end they had to cancel it. I could certainly see some catastrophic failure like this stopping them in the end.

It’s just sad though, really so bizarre to bring out the AirPods with these hints on the packaging and then nothing. So Anti-climatic.. Was really looking forward to it and am already annoyed by only being able to charge one device at once on my desk on my current Qi charger.
I dont want the Nomad one because it‘s not white like my desk.

Can someone please just make a regular 2 coil Qi charging matte that looks like AirPower? I dont care about having to place the phone in a certain way on it, just want to be able to charge two devices wirelessly at the same time in a nice and simple design. How hard can it be?

All that money and they can't come up with a wireless charger? What a joke.

Don’t matter to me. I’ve owned the X since day one and it’s never once seen a wireless charge..

Still, Apple shouldn’t have promoted a wireless solution so quick.. and damn all that R&D to fail

Bwahahahahaha! No AirPower guys, but I guess it’s okay for Apple to gaslight their consumer base with dumb million dollar initiatives like AppleTV+ after Amazon’s FIRE STICK has already been doing what their promising for a couple of years already. I bought my Phone/ Watch/ AirPods with the hopes of airpower being a reality ... LET THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS BEGIN !!!! Tim Cook is a FAILURE !!!

No you didn’t buy them for AirPower... or probably at all. Why are you even here? Go back to android central or whatever.

TV+ is another service. Like prime or Netflix not a amazon stick... which is really basic and slow anyway. The amazon 4K box is pretty good but the interface is horrible.

Class action lawsuits are for actual products... this would be consoder d a concept. No promises were EVER made.

This is a disappointment given what we've come to expect from Apple. It sounds like they should have cancelled it a year ago but wouldn't admit to themselves that the technology wasn't feasible. So some stubbornness in upper management.

That said, I'm confident had this been released that scores of people would complain it was too pricey and third party solutions were better. It is certainly true that there are PLENTY of great charging mats and stands available from third parties, and AirPower isn't really necessary. Apple will be fine and hopefully they will learn from this.

Another dud like the HomePod.

The HomePod and AirPower are two things are not mutually exclusive in your post, nor was the HomePod ever canceled/removed by Apple.

Who doesn’t already have multiple wireless chargers??

This is not the point of who doesn’t have a wireless charger, and I’m assuming you don’t know how the Airpower was expected to work, the Airpower was touted to be a wireless charger where you could place the device _anywhere_ on the mat without having a specific contact point Like other wireless chargers require.

I am not nervous about the pre-announced Mac Pro. I am not nervous about the pre-announced Mac Pro. I am not nervous about the pre-announced Mac Pro. I am not nervous about the pre-announced Mac Pro. That is pretty terrible.

After 2+ years of vaporware, after just recently securing the name, they cancel it? What a joke. And now...what? They won't even attempt to make a respectable entry into this space? The market is flooded with absolute junk. Nothing that even approaches Apple's standard of quality.
The Google stand is pretty great. Check it out if you want high quality wireless charging.

There is nothing wrong with third party charging solutions being used exclusively.

Apple couldn't pull off a superior feature of charging all at once. Not the feature of charging at all.

I agree this is a surprising move, but it clears the deck for a fresh release later when they lower their standards to reality and physics. That might be hard for them, insanely great and all . . . .

Just a wireless charger and so much fuzz. So many articles about it coming during past year, 700+ response thread about it being canceled... it's just a wireless charging pad. Guys please.
