That includes being able to hold it in their hands to place and receive calls.

This is the dishonest argument and why the people who have perfectly functioning phones detest the dishonesty of the whiners enough to engage them.

You know perfectly well you can hold the phone in your hand and make calls. In fact you can make calls better than any other cell phone out there especially in low signal areas. Due to nature of the antenna when in a weak signal are you simply should not cover that one small millimeters wide area.

But instead in your rant (and the others) it is stated as WE CANT HOLD OUR PHONES IN OUR HANDS AND MAKE ANY CALLS!!! WAHHHH WAHHHH!

That is what most people who have the phone and appreciate find so appalling.

You are assuming they can. Say there is a major recall and redesign. That still isn't what you paid for!
At the moment it isn't what you perceive you have paid for. So why argue with them? Just return it.

Nothing wrong with consumers demanding companies actually provide what they charge you for.

Returns aren't hassle free.

Just don't read these threads then ? Why are you reading them if your phone is working well for you ? What are you gaining from getting appalled ?

Some people don't want to have to think of how they hold their phones each and every time they pick it up. Because you have to understand, if you're browing the web on Safari and holding the problem spot, no one is able to reach you if you're in a "low" signal area (which can be an area showing as many as 5 bars on the current iPhone 4).

And yet the iPhone 4 is the most successful iPhone launch ever. Gosh, I wish my PR messes were that successful.
Yeah, how come those 1.7 million buyers didn't use their psychic powers to predict that the phone would have this flaw, instead of waiting to find out until after they brought it home?

I cannot make a call in my house with the phone in my left hand (where it normally is) and held in a secure manner. It's not a whine. It's a fact.

Who wants a redesign? I just want a working iPhone 4. Unless you're saying that the design is wrong and the only way to fix it is to redesign it? Interesting.

It's worse. You stated it earlier. Just holding the phone not only prevents you from making calls, it makes you unreachable sending every call directly to voicemail.

No you can demand all you want. People are talking of court action. What the courts going to say? You are hereby ordered to return the phone for a full refund.

Surely it's easier to return the phone? If everyone did that then apple would be forced to address the issue correctly and release a proper working phone? You keeling it and yelling about it makes zero difference.

I will point out again, that i am keeping my phone as it works for me.

No, from their comments, it is easy to come to the conclusion that no fix is coming and that people that suffer from the issue just wasted 600$ on an iPod Touch.

Then take it back. Simple.

Really - if you think the problem won't be fixed without a total recall - SEND IT BACK.

My iP4 has this problem - but considering all the other things it does very well - including good signals in weak areas - i can live with it. I have a case.

Seeing how the phone is probably good for everything else, people are asking Apple to acknowledge the issue and that a fix is worked on, in order to justify keeping the handset.

is it not OBVIOUS that they are doing what they can to sort it - and if its physically possible and financially viable they will do it.

Nothing unreasonable about it, except to every person here that personally designed the iPhone 4 antenna and feels threatened by the bad PR.

Its the whining that is the problem.

Be patient, have faith that a solution will be found.

Or shut up and sell up.

Whining won't make the fix come any quicker - it will actually make it feel longer.

"Are we there yet?"

You know nothing. There hasn't been any proof of a single working iPhone 4. Consider location before you reply otherwise it could get embarrasing for you.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm not engineer. I was just giving you a possible situation.

Look. The iPhone is failing you. Return it and buy a phone that doesn't fail you. Why is that so difficult to accept?

Your alternative is to put up with what you perceive to be a sub par product until apple fix it which could be 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, or never!
All the time you will be moaning and complaining and never happy.

It might be easier to just return the phone, but some people might want a working iPhone 4, because other than the glaring flaw of losing signal on a never before seen scale, the phone might work well for them.

And easier doesn't mean problem free. Maybe people would be willing to wait for a fix if Apple was a bit more open to discussion on this since returning the phone is not hassle free.

Its the whining that is the problem.

You whine about the whining. In the end, you are part of the problem you are denouncing.

You have no point. Apple is not forthcoming with information so consumers can't make an informed decision, end of story.

It does make a difference. Apple have already made at least two statements and are releasing "a fix". Had there been no complaining nothing would have been done. If we keep complaining then everyone will get a working iPhone 4. Although I'm sure that everyone that already has a working iPhone 4 won't want an iPhone 4.1 because their's is already perfect.

What if there is no fix?
Surely the smart thing to do is to return it for a full refund and wait? See if the iPhone fits your needs in a month or 2?

How about you stop telling people what to do. I want a working iPhone 4 and think that Apple should provide that for the £599 that I have spent. I also think that it's important for future Apple products that they understand that customers can't be walked over. Unfortunetly some people don't mind that awaway.

I agree that people who have paid for the iPhone4 want it to be perfect and working as they perceive it should. However, i sure it is less hassle to return it then it is to keep it and constantly worry about dropped calls and if/when apple fix the problem.

Wow, this thread has reached many thousands of replies... that's pretty silly.

In other news... you all have too much time on your hands - it is not an issue, any more than standing on a hose will lower the pressure to your sprinkler - SO DON'T STAND ON THE HOSE, THEN!.

Geesh - go outside and get some air, nerds. ^_^

Yeah, and you're extra post just adds to the "thousands". Take you're own advice about going outside, you're here posting too aren't you? :p

At this point, it does seem Apple's official position is "Non-issue, no fix". This is what all their comments point to. However, pointing towards is not a definitive answer. Again, returns aren't hassle free.

Apple knows that if they come out and say outright that there will be no fix, it's going to be a big mess and people will grill them for it. If they acknowledge a problem and say a fix is forthcoming, they basically make a fool out of Steve Jobs for calling this a non-issue.

The current situation is hazy and I understand the consumer's confusion about this whole thing. Confusion breeds anger and this mess is a direct result.

Jesus....the whole thread is opinions.
You talk about letting companies walk all over people. My limited understanding of economics is that if people don't buy a product (or return it), the company loses money and either stops making said product or improves it.
I may be wrong though........

Still it's your choice.....moan about the problem and the let infringing company keep your £599

Wow, you point out my spelling mistakes but are unable to read.

I said that I don't expect it too. Not that I know they won't. Apple will have to sort this mess out soon and if it's in the next few weeks then I don't want to get rid of my iPhone 4. Which part of that did you not understand?

The part that made sense, which none of it did.

I don't think it's that easy. From my point of view I've had the 3G, 3GS and couldn't wait for the 4. I've sold my 3GS. I want the iPhone that was promised and if there's a chance of getting that then I will do what it takes. If we all sit back and say "it's alright Apple, I'll buy a bumper from you to fix the problem that you missed" then what will happen? There will never be a fix. People just have to stop bending over for Apple and admit that they have made a mistake.

I called Apple today and included an MP3 of the call on my blog. You can click the link below to listen. I guess I need a bumper.

Don't waste your time people, this is just a guy trying to get advertising dollars from your clicks :

NOTE: This phone call is 100% made up by myself. Apple does not have an iPhone Support Hotline. I thought it would be funny, so I spent an hour on it. Hope you find some humor in it.

Well many people are still buying the iPhone 4 right now after all the bad press about the reception issue.
