I found another way. Went to the Health App chose health data->fitness->whatever data is missing->share data->iPhone.

Interesting. That wasn't even an option for me when I was trying to get my data to show up. I guess trying that first would be the best bet though since it is the easiest.

Try to reset all settings, which will not delete any data from your iPhone and resolves most software related issues. However it will remove all saved wifi networks, any TouchID fingerprints, VPN, and reset your sound settings back to default.

Yes, that seems to be the general solution to all problems nowadays. Reminds me of the 90s. "What? You got a problem with Windows? Reinstall it! Yes, this and this and that will be wiped afterwards, but at least that one little problem will be fixed."

I'd actually hope Apple will fix this in iOS 8.0.3 as opposed to really expecting the users to go through a settings reset whenever Apple messes something up.

That option doesn't exist for me.

I thought you need to pair you iPhone with the Apple Watch in order for Health apps to be really useful. I'll not carry my phone every minute during the day, so the steps are definitely wrong.

From what we know, Watch will measure heart rate, steps, and elevation. Most people seem to take their phone with them most places anyway, but Watch will certainly be more accurate with steps, as well as frequently monitoring your heart rate.

These are only two of ~60 data types managed by HealthKit though. There are already many health apps (and devices) keeping track of important information. Sharing this data with Health and other apps via HealthKit will be very useful even without the watch.

I was having issues with the Health app not logging my cycling. Anyone else having this issue? Steps, distance, and stairs all appear to be working fine. Still hoping for MapMyRide integration

It didn't record my rides, either. I have Cyclemeter on my phone and am hoping for integration with that app.

Whoops, I managed to get the display for the steps back by messing with the "Share data" settings. I have FitPort installed, and I moved "Health" below Fitport in the share data settings, then back up and voila, the steps data is displayed correctly again - though not really consistently. Sometimes when I go to the dashboard, it is not there, but after going to the "Day" view and back to the "Week" view, it appears.

<Friendly Wording>One could get the impression that the Health app contains a few inaccuracies.</Friendly Wording>

There's no option to add iPhone but I went to that screen, "Edit", "Done", then went back, "Show all data", scrolled down a little, "Edit", "Done", "Back", and the information had returned. One of the above things fixed it :) ...basically just screw around with everything.

After this the data intermittently disappeared on the dashboard. Double tap and closing the app seems to have fixed this.

In this case, it can see previous entries that Health can't. If you carefully read through the 8.0.2 thread, you'll notice some complaints that Health in 8.0.2 is no longer displaying fitness data collected in 8.0. What's missing differs user to user, steps for some, distance for some, etc. Individual data points are still there and other apps can pull them and see them, but Health simply displays zeroes for every day before the 8.0.2 update.

Not true for me. All my data is there.

If a data type doesn't have iPhone/Health listed in Share Data then it isn't tracked automatically. e.g., cycling.

Thanks, that fixed the display.
We've discovered better/less annoying ways of fixing it! Don't follow #55!

Is trust an app avaliable that you can enter you meal from a restruant and it pulls all the nutrition info including Cal,fat, vitamins, extra?

Basically a database of food information.

MyFitnessPal does exactly this. I'm always surprised at the shear number of items in their database. I haven't found a barcode yet that isn't recognized, along with foods at every pretty much every restaurant I've been to.

What's the better/less annoying way? I'd like to go back and edit my previous post if there is another solution.

I'm not 100% sure, but playing around with the "Share Data" page seems to have something to do with it. Don't encourage people to reset their iPhones and lose a lot of information!

Unfortunately my steps data is now fine so I can't test this, but I believe this may work:

Go to Steps, Share Data, and tap Edit. Change the order of iPhone/Health and tap Done.

Again, I'm not 100% sure. I fixed it after doing this and a few other things—essentially screwing around and looking at the various pages, from Show All Data to Share Data.

Yes, it would be really great though if it could differentiate between actually climbing stairs and taking the elevator. It tells me that I climbed 12 floors on Wednesday. I most definitely didn't. I climbed 3. All the rest was the elevator.

It didn't register any of my elevator rides as stairs. Health did miss one of my flights though. It also didn't register two shorter flights (as one or two) with a landing of sorts in-between.

I don't think it's an elevator "bug." I know the Fitbit uses changes in elevation to determine flights of stairs, so if the phone works the same way, then all it takes is a 10' increase in elevation in a short distance to indicate a flight of stairs.

It has to use something more than that. I use a chair lift at home, so my body is going up one flight of stairs at walking pace without climbing them myself. It never registers me as having climbed stairs. I'm kind of impressed with that, TBH.

I'm confused!

Does Apple's health app do anything at all by itself without 3rd party apps? Does it even track steps without a 3rd party app?

I just found out today that on the iPhone 5S and greater, it does track steps by itself (you need to go to Health Data > Fitness > Steps and enable "Show on Dashboard). You can also use it to generate the Medical ID that is accessible from your lock screen.

How do you get it on your lock screen?
