What about HomeKit? I'm very interested in seamlessly bridging my home tech, especially with Siri commands. Not much word on it since June's announcement. Even in development, not many of us had anything to work with.

I installed MFPal and set it up to to share with health. To be frank, I am not seeing the benefit of health over the MFPal app. Why wouldn't I just use that?

MyFitnessPal has been updated to work with the Health app.
Strange. The version that was released and then pulled had HealthKit directly under More. Now it's hidden under Apps & Devices with everything else.

Health also needs an "allow all" button for sources.

The health app lets you track all kinds of ridiculous data but has forgotten the most important one. Come on Apple how could you leave out tracking water intake. Baffling.

If MFPal is the only HealthKit app that you use, there is no point. However HealthKit is designed to collect information from many different apps/sources and securely share it under your control.

Haha very true! I hadn't thought of that, but like you say water intake is very important and quite an oversight.

I'm not 100% sure, but playing around with the "Share Data" page seems to have something to do with it. Don't encourage people to reset their iPhones and lose a lot of information!

Unfortunately my steps data is now fine so I can't test this, but I believe this may work:

Go to Steps, Share Data, and tap Edit. Change the order of iPhone/Health and tap Done.

Again, I'm not 100% sure. I fixed it after doing this and a few other things—essentially screwing around and looking at the various pages, from Show All Data to Share Data.

I can say for sure that didn't work for me. My steps will not make you lose data. It simply resets some settings (most of which took me 1 minute to reset once I did it.

MyFitnessPal does exactly this. I'm always surprised at the shear number of items in their database. I haven't found a barcode yet that isn't recognized, along with foods at every pretty much every restaurant I've been to.

I wish it tracked Caffeine though... not sure why its not on their lists.

Bug in MFP. If you change the serving size of something you've already added, it adds multiple instances of the same data into all of the logs.

I think it's gonna be pretty hard for developers to do HeathKit integration right.

You need to swipe left-to-right (so the passcode prompt appears), then tap "Emergency", then tap "Medical ID".

I'm not really impressed with how this works.

First of all you have to have a pass-code activated. I realize that that's not so much an issue with 5s and up phones, but on the older ones, that are not locked, you can't go to medical ID on the lock screen.

To me, there should be a button on the lock screen, that shows up any time when medical ID is enabled/filled out.

How is a first responder supposed to know, for every operating system that provides that feature, where to find it...

I did the encrypted backup before updating from 8.0.0 to 8.0.2 via iTunes.
Now all the steps recorded in the health app no longer show up in the graphs, they still to show up under "all recorded data" though. The old steps there have the health app icon, the new ones have a little iPhone icon.

The "Walking + Running Distance" graph still works though... weird.
Followed all the instructions to fix it (including deleting the last step), steps graph is reset.

Kinda losing trust here, are updates always gonna break things from now on?

There's a fix in this thread.

Need chip implanted to make the app seamless.

It is coming.. Current version of Health App and iWatch is just a starter. When Apple advertised iWatch as a most personal device there is a reason. Future focus on iWatch is not just to make it thin like most people think rather Apple will be focussing on what I call them as health probes. Whatever Apple did to the Credit card industry will happen to Medical side too. Master card, Visa and many other banks are now racing to use the touch id feature integrated with the card processing. You will see all medical providers going to apple for data in few years. Wait and see.

From what we know, Watch will measure heart rate, steps, and elevation. Most people seem to take their phone with them most places anyway, but Watch will certainly be more accurate with steps, as well as frequently monitoring your heart rate.

I am one of those people who leaves his iPhone sitting plugged in by his computer unless he's leaving the house or going to spend a significant time elsewhere in the house (then often plugs it in there). A step tracker on the iPhone is useless to me most days. The Apple Watch would definitely solve that problem, but then so would any Bluetooth-equipped fitness band.

I have been using MyFitnessPal for several months now. Does anyone know if it's possible to automatically import all the old data from MFP into Health, or will it only import data from today onwards?

None of those worked. However wildly scrolling around and tapping on the screen somehow fixed it. Don't know how really... disabling "show on dashboard" on everything and then adding the things repeatedly somehow seems to have done the trick.
