Ok, can I just say that I am really tired of hearing iPod rumors and iPod news...THEY ARE COOL ENOUGH...WORK ON SOMETHING ELSE FOR A FEW MONTHS! I'm sorry, I absoloutely love Apple, but this is getting ridiculous! The PowerBooks are really just sad at this point, and it's time they fixed that.

New PowerBooks on the 12th? I sure as hell hope so!

god damnit, i wish i hadn't bought a nano the day after they came out

still, i can't see that this is a computer related announcement. those will probably be done at mwsf [and any updates before macintel will probably just be speedbumps]

i'm guessing it's itunes video store + ipod video. its the logical next step.apple is great at content delivery so an iVideo store doesn't seem unlikely.

it'd be nice if they just update the firmware for the nano's to play videos. i know it seems real unlikely..but it'd go down a mega hit with the press [apple gives away something free] and would fit in with the 'one more thing' theme.

then again, how many movies can you get on a 4gb disk? :(

I was just thinking the same thing...how incredibly cool would that be "Oh, one more thing, your nano can play videos!".

Of course watching a movie on a screen that size would likely be annoying as hell...but I want it damn it!! :D

Ok, let's imagine;
Apple negotiate rights for over 100k movie titles for Itunes movie store
Apple created an amazing device like ipod that can play videos.
you can pay $5 per movie download

Now reality:
how easy would be to download a movie?
how interesting would be to watch a movie on a 2" screen?
How much such device would cost? $500 up?
How many movies could you squeeze inside and ipod?
Why would Apple take the spotlight away from the Nano?
What about piracy? could they protect movies?
what kind of broadband connection would you need to download a 3hour movie?

I agree with Steve that the Video Ipod would be cool, that is not ready for primetime yet.
Even if they announce it next week, I don't think would be so great to impress people to fork more money and replace the current ipods or convince new folks to jump in.

My feeling is that a DVR, Home device could be the next thing.

PB and PM could be announce on Tuesday. Hopefully

;)

I think it should be video stuff.
Red curtain symbolize the beginning of the show, and something like cinema / theatre setting.
Lets save money~~~~

California Theater in San Jose. The invitation itself features red curtains

Red Curtains. Theater.

My bet is it's something movie-related. Interesting.

Or something curtain-related. Not so interesting.

Unless you're interested in curtains.

Better "Boom" than "Blow"

Sorry Mods, couldn't resist. You too Mr. Jobs, if you're reading this...

Stevie will not release something unless he had EVERYTHING figured out for video on iPod. !

Ohhhh I see, just like he had everything figured for the Mac Cube fiasco!

An absolute stunning failure I must admit. It still looks neat.

I just don't see a video iPod being needed, worthy, cool, logical or even practical. You cab barely see the jpgs on it and now you'll watch a movie on a 2"x1.25" or something screen? Will it be 4:3 or 16:9? Why? You'd have to hold that thing less then 1 foot from your face to even see anything. That's just dumb to me.

Much more logical to me is Itunes Movie store and the streaming AE to your TV. That way you can download a purchased movie and stream it to your HT system. I'd buy that in a heart beat.

Video iPod? Ridiculously not needed.

Did the AE and Tivo boosters consider that the iPod Video is rumored to have wireless output to an updated AE? And that if there is an AE, you will have the option of sending content to it from either your iPod Video or your Mac?

If Apple wants to make a big impact with a video-enabled iPod, it will need to build in wireless and release it with a video-enabled AE. That would great increase the convenience of viewing content from it on a big screen.

I already have a Tivo device on my Mac, it is a Plextor PVR box running Elgato EyeTV software. $200, no subscription fees, encodes video in various formats (MPEG2/4, Divx), works great! And I fully expect to be able to transfer the content to a video iPod, and/or stream via a video-enabled Airport Express.

If you think about it the Mac Mini is actually the cube stripped down and much smaller.I'd even venture to guess the Mini is more powerful than the G3 Cube albeit without the upgrade possibilities..

Scenerio Oct.12th..

Curtain opens and theres a desk stage left.Jobs walks on in his patent black turtleneck and jeans and starts talking about the new iMedia store where you can download music and videos. The screen shows some cool video playing while he talks about the iPod Video..

When he's done he says..One More thing..We've been streaming this from the new iMedia device on the desk and walks over and picks it up and shows it off..It's running OSX 10.4.3 using the Macintel platform..

i don't think wifi or bluetooth is there yet for wireless streaming of video, although some wifi is fast enough, it would beat on the battery like a guy on his wife in alabama in his trailer park.

Cool! Macrumors FINALLY posted a picture (other than the question mark or newspaper) to accompany a headline! Look at the front page, everyone!

I believe that it could quite possibly, and most likely be the introduction of Apple Foods Inc. They will produce many different apple food products including Apple's Caramel Apples on a Stick, Apple's Apple Pie, and Apple's Apple Pot-Roast/Toaster Oven.... Yeah, the latter may be a stretch, but Apple has always been innovative. These products will be released in great timing for the holiday season...........
............ Sorry, but I cannot disclose my sources. But lets just say that Steve told me himself. ;)

If it's a video iPod, I may actually buy one, as I've currently got the money, and my 4G iPod's warranty just ran out, and I've been wanting an excuse to get a new iPod. To be honest though, I hope it's not a video iPod. I hope it's something much more exciting. A Mac media center would be much more interesting to me. A special version of OS X with built in Tivo-like functionality, streaming audio and video capability and iLife integration would be awesome. Especially if they come out with an on-demand store for videos that lets you "rent" videos for a low price ($2.99 or something), and buy them for download at $6 or $7. I'd buy one.

Wifi wouldn't be fast enough for HD video, but would be plenty fast enough for good quality video to a TV.

But you're right about the battery-

I agree this would be a nice product. I just think its more likely the iPod. I'll probably buy either, if they come out.

PowerBooks - 13", 15", 17" versions. All will be widescreen HD. All will have either freescale dual-core g4 (probably most likely) or single core g5.

Read my lips: NOT_GONNA_HAPPEN. they will propably announce a move to Freescale 7448 with 1MB L2 and 200Mhz bus (among other improvements). PB will propably get this chip, while iBook could get the chips current PB's are using.

PowerMac - Dual Dual-core G5

perhaps, perhaps :)....
