Think about it, the connotations of Theatre curtains are obvious. Film Cinema, entertainment. It's a video iPod.

Mac Mini Intel Announcement

There is no chance Jobs would release a new iPod (let alone a video iPod  ) so soon after the iPod Nano. It would take too many sales away from the Nano leading up to the holiday season.

My tip is that it is either one of two things:

1. A Mac Mini with an Intel processor, and the announcement of 10.4.3 which will run on Intel - a perfect stocking stuffer :)

or

2. A new feature in the iTunes music store such as Movies that can be streamed via a new Airport device (WiFi 108Mbps) from your Mac or Windows desktop to your TV

I am hoping and praying it for an Intel based Mac though, sooner rather than later.

I hope for a Quicktime video of this event.. Even if I was invited, I wouldn't be able to go, so a webcast will be fine Steve :)

Video Firmware/Software for Your current colored screen iPods

I dunno' if someone's guessed this but I believe this one more thing is not an a new video iPod but it's a new video firmware/software for your current colored iPods. Do enjoy reading this prediction at:

Forgive me for sounding like a jackass (it's a habit of mine...) but why all the anticipation for new iPods? I don't own an iPod, myself, but what is it about the current ones that you are all hoping to see changed/improved?

We are all addicted to being wowed. Go on Steve Wow us again.

Dont the current crop of colour iPods already do video and stuff. Its just been disabled in the firmware, so really a firmware/software update will get you a iPod video.

Hi, thanks for reading. I came up with coz', it would make a lot of people upset should they release another iPod when they have just bought their Nanos. I guess, they're ready to launch video at this time. Videos are really nothing more than moving photos/pixels which the iPods, even the black and white can already do (as seen in the built-in games and it's scrolling). It's good to imagine as well that will have games that will be as complex as the Gameboys (updated on the article). Thanks again.

God bless,
Alvin

It bloody well better be the iPod Video, just in time to put a world of hurt on the products of Creative and Archos.

Curious: why do you want Apple to put "world of hurt" on Creative and Archos? I mean, it's one thing to hope for kick-ass products that succeeds in the marketplace, than to hope for them to damage their competitors.

This is what is the problem with capitalism these days. It has transformed from competition in to "destroying the competition".

An iTunes Movie Store and iPod that plays video?

How many countries around the world would be able access such a store? There are still dozens of countries with no iTunes music because of all sorts of legal issues. It took over a year for iTunes to come to parts of Europe even longer for Japan. Australia still doesnt have access to it.

Why would you sell a video iPod that could only be used in a few countries? If it is a video iPod maybe it just plays short video clips (like podcasts) rather than whole movies.

video ipods

maybe powerbooks, but i doubt it, that would be more than ONE more thing

What if it's something like....

"One more thing.... We are updating our entire product-line, starting from the Airport AP's, down to iPods, PowerMacs and PowerBooks"

I don´t see how a video iPod would take away sales from the Nano, as the price range would be much higer for a video iPod

i don't get the big whoop about the "supposed" PB update. 200 mhz FSB??? what can you do with that?

All the things you can do with current PB's, only faster?

Seriously, G4 is a fine CPU, true, it's FSB leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not like Apple could just put 533Mhz bus there or something. What they could do is to help the situation. bumbing the bus to 200Mhz does help. And doubling the L2-cache also helps, since larger cache mean that CPU needs to access the RAM less often, and most load on the FSB in mem-access. I have heard estimates that doubling the L2-cache reduces the mem-access by about 20%. Since most load on the FSB is mem-access, I would guessstimate that doubling the L2-cache eases the strain on the bus by about 15%. And the FSB would be about 20% faster. Combined, those would bring substantial improvements to the platform.

I read a review where they compared 2GHz PowerMac G5 to 2GHz PowerMac G4. And guess what? They were pretty close to each other. Even with it's uber fast FSB and uber-fast RAM, G4 held it's own against the G5. And that G4 was the model with 166Mhz bus and 512KB of L2-cache. 7448 should do considerably better. Hell, it might be faster than G5 is, clock for clock!

they need to get their stuff together. I won't even think about a PB until the mactels come out. by then they'll be up to 800mhz fsb and dual core...now THAT is a POWER book.

There is more to laptops and computers than mere CPU-power. If I had the money, I would MUCH rather get a PowerBook than some x86 laptop. PB is just so well designed and smooth, that it's simply better than any x86-laptop, regardless of the fact that it's CPU is a bit slower.

There should be some discussion going on about how these events fell onto the calendar. Look, how effective is it to hold multiple "special events", especially right before and after a major conference featuring your platform? And before anyone jumps on this and says Steve Jobs is a genius take off the Bondi Blue glasses and think about it. Even the title "and one more thing..." wreaks of we weren't ready when we hoped. There should be some serious analysis of the change of format going on but nobody is doing it.

That being said, expect a delay for the weekly iTunes update (new releases) next week if it has something to do with iPods, as in the past.

What if Apple releases updated PM's and PB's on the 11th, then as a "one more thing" on the 12th release the new iPods?

I think that's possible. I wouldn't expect amazing updates to the Pro machines this side of Intel so maybe they want to cover a bit of an underwhelming speed bump with a big bang iPod announcement the following day.

I think Apple are probably pretty frustrated by the lack of updates to the Pro machines too. I don't think they have too much scope with the CPU speeds.

I'm also curious why the Regent Street store has applied to local authorities for an extra-ordinary one-off entertainment license for the night of Tuesday October 18th between 8 to 10.30pm.

Could it be that there will be a delay in the launch of the UK Movie/Video store? Or maybe somebody just hired the shop for a birthday party. ;-)

This would be a great one more thing, perhaps things just were not ready for Paris, so they had to cancell the stevenote, and now they have all the edges dusted off, ready for one final update across the boards before we go intel inside?

All cosnumer models capable of HD movie playback (and some editing)
All Pro lines updated so they can edit and run on the fly with big beefy Dual core PBs and PMs.

And just in time for the Christmas rush.

Was this year not supposed to be the year of HD.

Is the upgraded mini (the one that is currently a lucky dip one to see what you get) capable of HD playback?

I don't know enough about this sort of thing, so any enlightenment would be appreciated :)
