Another wild idea: curtains can mean the end for some things. you know, after the play, the curtains close.

What is about to end as far as Apple is concerned? PowerPC-computers. But before they are laid to rest, there's "one more thing....".

OTOH, Video-iPod is more likely :).

I predict...

...There will be 20 pages of whining about how people are disappointed by Apple's product unveiling, immediately after the event.

:D

Shall we just start now? We don't *really* need to wait for the announcements to do that do we?? ;) :D

A big problem I see with a future iPod video is that one "cannot" rip one's own DVDs to one's own iPod. I mean, not legally.

If we do see a video iPod I hope that you can put your own films on there. Downloading from Apple sounds like a sloooow process to me.

What kind of file sizes are we expecting?

I've seen a divx movie around 1GB look pretty impressive on a 36 inch TV... certainly comparable in quality to Sky digital satellite images anyway and nobody seems to be hammering them for using compression.

Something around the size of a divx file might be bearable but personally, I'd rather have the option of adding my own videos on there.

As for rumours about the firmware upgrade, I wouldn't rule that out either. Maybe the "One more thing" is just the ITM Video Store and there's a new iPod updater and iTunes to sort out access.

Apple did hint at unused functionality when the iPod photo was first released.

At least we don't have TOO long to go.

When's the student iBook offer end, maybe thats a clue as people said they thought something might happen when that ends?

one more thing.....

video iPod....

1. The curtains of the invite are actually from an iDVD template for a title screen.

2. The latest dock offered for iPods already has an s-video out on it for pictures to display on TV.

3. Apple has hired several video specialists over the past year.

It is not that far to guess that this POSSIBLE video iPod will play out to your normal tv set and essentially be a micro tivo at least for playback anyway. Everything is in place for something like that where you either watch a vid from the ipod screen, OR play it out to your TV. At that point it makes sense.

i dont think so. It's just not apple to me.

Its fake, just go read one of the threads on the forums..and you can clearly see it is fake as-well

PS: here is the linky to the thread...Linky

Probably has been said before, this might be the one more thing Steve wanted to show in Paris before they cancelled the keynote. Just like a very delayed "One more thing".

Maybe it's gonna be the hard drive based video camera i've been hoping for. Why would we want a video ipod? I think it would be too weird to work, with the small screen and all. So what's close and still involves video and ipod like technology? Hard drive video camera, that's what.

Yup. Sounds like what I want too. Of course I'd also like it to be able to handle home movies as well.

My kids (2 & 4) eat CDs and DVDs (not literally, but close), so I built them a discless edutainment box using an old PIII and Alcohol 52%. Now the 4 year old can play his games when he wants to without needing adult help. I'd like something similar for their DVDs, preferably with an interface so easy the two year old can drive. ;-)

Of course the TiVo is pretty close to this already, I just haven't had a chance to hack it beyond increasing the size of the hard drive.

B

Elgato's EyeHome

Been using it for a year and a half now. All the kids' movies (and a rotating selection of my NetFlix) are ripped to a 250GB network hard drive, the EyeHome server runs off my webserver, a broken-screen iBook G3 in my closet next to my DSL and router. The EyeHome box is networked and hooked up to the TV in the living room. Other computers in my house can also access the movies just by connecting to the server and watching in Quicktime.

The EyeHome TV menu interface is a little bit klunky and the server software is a wee bit unreliable (EyeHome box and/or server software need rebooted a couple times a week), no doubt Apple could do it better with a video enabled Airport Express and their magic applied to such an interface. But my 3, 5, and 8 year old can all switch the TV over to the correct input and navigate to the movie they want on the EyeHome, original DVDs safely in their boxes (or have been mailed back to NetFlix ;) )

EyeHome can also access your iTunes, iPhotos, and the Web. If you have Elgato's EyeTV you can also watch programs recorded on your Mac via the EyeHome just like with a TiVo.

If you think about it the Mac Mini is actually the cube stripped down and much smaller.I'd even venture to guess the Mini is more powerful than the G3 Cube .....

Undoubtedly, since there is no such thing as a G3 Cube.

Someone mentioned earlier something about problems with airport media needing a remote..

Think different folks!!
What if....

The iPod video IS the remote.
Think about it..
you have some cool home movies on your G5 in the office and you have friends over and you want to show them your vacation to say...Hawaii..

All you need to do is flip on the iPod video which has a menu on it.It's connected to your G5 via WiFi.It's also connected to the new AirMedia device via WiFi which in turn is connected to the tele via SVideo and RCA Audio..

Now visualize....

You now have the "remote" (iPod) in hand and all you have to do is select the video and POOF! It's on your TV..
