Steve needs to be pelted in the head with an ipod.

Yeah, great, ipods are pretty much the only things keeping apple in business, but seriously, do we really need ANOTHER ipod update? the ipod is a healthy, well updated line while the computer division of "Apple Computer" seems to have gathered dust.

I need a new powerbook and I know 2 other co-workers who are itching to buy new powerbooks as soon as they come out... Sadly though, the only powerbooks you can get are under-powered well aged models.

Have you heard about this transition thing that Apple is doing? You know with Intel. :p

Why you think they are doing that? one hint... to address the issue you are complaining about.

i don't see much happening with ipod video anyway.
i would love to see some sort of DVR, airport xpress AV, Itunes video store kind of device.

PLEASE!!! Macs neeeeeed to have TV tuners to keep up these days! Those are now standard equipment! (maybe this leads to a vPod...)

This makes sense. Forget the iPod, you'd need to have some sort of Mac-TV connection for a video store to really work. Who would want to pay $5 to dl a movie if you could only watch it on a 2 inch screen? Or a 20" screen on a desk for that matter? There needs to be a way to get the movie onto a TV... maybe asteroid?

How about some new dual core powerbooks. I could use a laptop... 15" screen, dual 1.4ghz, 128mb x300 gpu, 1gb ram, 80-100gb 7200rpm drive... works for me ;)

Oh IDEA!

One more thing is always used to introduce something very new.... so what if this red curtains could mean something else.

Like an Apple Home Movie Theater system or some form of set top box? Apple could move into the living room and dominate the world. Or it could just be iPod Video with the iTunes Media store.

However a home theater system would be the ****!

New Mac Mini

I think we'll see a major update to the Mac mini. Apple will finally transform it into the tv set top box that I envisioned it as. They might even release a simplified version of X to run on it that will work as a DVR, iTunes server, iPhoto and iMovie. Maybe even release some specific Nintendo style family games. I also think it will have an iPod dock built in somewhere. A video iPod is coming but it's not a revolutionary product that requires a special demonstration especially if it's only going to be playing back music videos. Of course we'll probably see an iMovie store that may not feature HD movies but probably a variety of content.

First must come the organizational program for movies. I don't see it being lumped with iTunes, and we just had a "major" iTunes update.

But iTunes 5 does organize videos. It uses quicktime, but you can drag and drop any quicktime video onto iTunes and turn iTunes into your video library.

All I want are new dual-core Power Mac G5s, once they come out...I will be one of the first to order it.

If not I need a new iPod so if an update comes along I will also order one.

Mock up

This guy's mock up is probably pretty close. Make the scroll wheel smaller and the screen a bit wider and there you go.

Is it too far fetched to think that an Apple media center product could include a television? Dell and Gateway are making bank on their plasma screens.

My prediction. A new device where you can download movies to rent online. It will not have a screen but simply fit into your stereo gear and you hook up to your tv.

The trouble with the nano is that it only satisfies the 70% of people who want a 1000 songs or so. There's nothing new and exciting for the holiday market to buy at the $300 mark... hence, why they keep the Nano buzz and almost reinvigorate it with a new 5G iPod? Imagine all those articles contrasting the two - the Nano gets another burst of activity on the back of the new one.

This is the time of year to introduce consumer devices. So far, Apple have kept ahead of the curve in iPod design. The competition are creating some better looking, nicely features lines at the top end of the market; it's time for Apple to leapfrog them again - just before the holiday season when there's no time for them to react and yet another tranche of the MP3-buying public end up with iPods

I think this makes sense. At the same time I think a media center by apple along with a media store, ready to go now would be the NEXT LARGE THING for Apple.

Yet, THE CAN'T FORGET THEIR POWER LINE OF COMPUTERS! Mr. Jobs release those Powerbooks!

We need Kevin Rose (kevinrose.com) to settle this one - his prediction about the Nano was right on the money. :p

Here's hoping it's one of the following...

1.) 10.6" and/or 13.3" Powerbooks. All Powerbooks with HD displays, HDD upgrades, etc.
2.) New iPod. 20GB, 40GB, and maybe larger capacities. BRUSHED ALUMINUM CASING!!! Normal case colors, colors screens. Oh, video would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.
3.) A video Airport Express that transfers at 216Mbps
4.) An HD HTPC
5.) A NEW APPLE NEWTON... I doubt that one.

i hope they put a backlight into the clickwheel. if the Nano has it then w00t! but the big 'pods NEED it. Apple should include lights on all of their input thingies. every keyboard, every iPod clickwheel. ok just those 2. would be a beautiful sight.

if they just added a backlit keyboard to the 12" PowerBook i'd scoff those ginger crumpets and run off to my nearest [official] Apple store!... Birmingham here i come!

HD Powerbooks
Dual Core Powermacs
Display Price Drops
iPod Video
Airport Express Video

How many will actually happen?

I want all 5, just need one of the places I applied at yesterday to call back. :)

Hmmn....

[Lights dim and crowd cheers as Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get it Started" is cranked]

[Red curtains open and Bill Gates skips out like a school girl]

"Just kidding!!! You Suckazzz!!"

Exactly. A DVR-like device makes much more sense to me. Catalog and store your movies on the computer, watch them on TV just as you would using a DVR or DVD player. Complete with a standard remote control interface and on-screen menus. I love having DVR service with my cable, but I want the option to manage it with an app like iTunes, not with the DVR's built in interface.

I really can't understand why Steve Jobs insists this isn't something that will pay off. He's said numerous times, including a few weeks ago at the Paris Expo, that Apple isn't interested in Mac/TV convergence. I don't get that at all. Seems like a no-brainer, and way more useful than video on the go.

But then I'm not the head of a growing and profitable multi-billion dollar company, so what do I know?
