I'm at a loss. I have to assume they drove? them to Shanghai and flew them to hongkong on Cathay Freight CX3251?

Either way - Hong Kong has a whole lot of connecting freight flights to the US.

I continue to say Thursday but am adding 10% to my margin of error.

Let us know how things go with the class action lawsuit!

I never said I intended to file suit. Only that if enough people had problems someone might start one. Never would have been me. Nobody seems to have noticed that. Just lay off it already.

Finally progress! Like many I am in the 10/1 - 10/4 delivery date window and my card just got charged and the order status changed to “Preparing to Ship”. SG 256 PM

Lol it had been on the move since 1.54AM china time until 7.32AM in HK. How long does it take from Zhengzhou to HK by plane? I’d assume it’s not more than 2-3 hours.

Law suit is ridiculous, but ZP is right in that - this is frustrating a lot of people - more with shifting expectations and cryptic error messages than with delays.

If you are among those truly frustrated my advice would be literally mail a letter to apple HQ, not asking for anything, but critiquing the experience. The device is designed to be a curated experience. The box is designed to be a curated experience. The ordering and delivery process should also, ideally, be an experience.

With the caveat that a shipping snafu on your premium technology is the truly ultimate example of a first world problem.

Counterpoint to the counterpoint - paying far out the [redacted] for such a premium device, get it together with the logistics, kids.

Departure scan doesn't per se mean takeoff, arrival scan doesn't per se mean landing. It's a little under 900 miles so, yes a short flight.

I believe there are parts of the picture we aren't seeing and truly won't see until the packages enter the UPS network proper.

They could have been on the move for some time during that exception period - truly, they could have been trucked to HK. Hong Kong is a hub. Hong Kong is good. Or at least, it's not bad.

So you’re saying....IT MAY BE OKAY? 🤣

I’m with Jason Snell on Upgrade. Kind of silly that so many of us who pre-ordered within minutes of on-sale are waiting over a week after launch for their phones while we could have just gone to a local Apple Store on launch weekend to grab one.

There should have been a better way to communicate this.

This also isnt the first time they’ve (Apple or UPS) had to move massive quantities of product. . Every time an iPhone or iPad is launched they deal with these logistics. And to a lesser extent with watches and macs. But this year doesnt seem as smooth as previous years. Sure there are always hiccups but the preorder process was terribly flawed.

Oh I don't disagree. They were definitely trying something new. Whether someone thought they had a better idea, or production delays forced the phones to be shipped direct from CN rather than staged stateside first - That I can't say.

I'm not saying this wasn't fraught with issues, I'm just saying - if there's a shipment where one should expect to see the unexpected, this is that shipment

But it always amazes me how quickly something can get from China to my little corner of the world so quickly. Amazon amazes me more because it routinely gets stuff to me in two days and I’m hours from a major shipping airport.

It's worth noting that no 2-day shipping product on amazon is shipping direct from China. You can indeed buy things direct from china on amazon, but they take forever and arrive in those weird little EMSAirMail bags. (If you can wait, and it's what you're buying anyway, go for it - it's almost always way cheaper)

Amazon has a huge infrastructure across the country to get things to people within 2 days. But watch what happens around christmas and the holidays- sometimes you don't see the shipment timeframes you expect. "what do you mean december 27?!?!" you find yourself asking in a rage.

Apple stages their own holiday rush in September. And here we are. And for whatever reason, they've started the UPS process all the way in ZhengZhou rather than getting palletized freight here first and then looping in the last mile partner.

So something's definitely new - could be manufacturing glitch, could be attempt at something new that didn't work out, could just be someone in the chain of command is not very smart. Who knows. What I do know is we're not seeing scans until at least an hour later so the tracking information isn't a reliable indicator of where an item has not left yet, and that thursday is very likely.

I worry this sounds jerkly - not my intention. Far from it, you're all terrific.

Since I’m already typing this on my new phone I’m going to pop in here to see how others shipments are doing. After all I still have my preordered phone out there in limbo and may eventually receive it if Apple couldn’t get Ups to cancel and return it. At that point Apple advised me to take it to the store rather than put it in the post. Same for my old phone.

For some reason my iPhone 11 Pro is in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong. I doubt I’ll be receiving it this week, which is unfortunate because I wanted to test it out at a festival this weekend.

I’ve ordered a lot of Apple stuff over the years. And I mean A LOT. Never wound up here before. Fully expected it to at least make it to Alaska tonight. This whole thing has been weird. Maybe something to do with the trade war?

I’ve learned over the years that China is unpredictable and changes its laws without prior notice whenever it feels like it. It’s entirely possible that China did something at the 11th hour with customs regs that required Apple to scramble. They don’t call it a Chinese fire drill for nothing. 😜

Chek Lap Kok isn’t far from Shenzhen where most Apple stuff I’ve ordered originates I’m thinking they’re spreading the load out amongst nearby airports. I wouldn’t write off delivery this week if it’s in your original time frame.

Good news guys, I was fired from my job at 4pm today. I will definitely be home when my phone arrives and won’t have to make any arrangements for someone to be here.
Uhhh congrats!

More seriously, damn man, I am sorry to hear that. :/

LOLZZZZZZ

anyway I wanted to reply about how much good writing a letter to Apple HQ will do. I predict absolutely none. They probably sit around and laugh at those. I would. Sorry.
