I think we are all on rumour overload...... and the MacRumor community is losing sleep over all these premature speculations, we have been shot with significant loads from the rumour mill. Significant iMac, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro and iphone updates, from what has been quite a flaccid period, I guess it has become a lot to swallow. I don't see why 4 inches is necessary, I found that the size never was an issue, 3.5 inches certainly does the job and pulls it of quite well. We will have to see what lays ahead but the next 3 months will be messy, with a lot of releases, bigger or smaller I can wait to get my hands on it all.

Do you think A T & T will let their iphone users who purchased the Iphone 4S upgrade early to get the Iphone 5? They allowed me to upgrade early from the 4 to the 4S.

If they did, it would be purely coincidental. AT&T doesn't offer yearly upgrades based on the introduction of a new iPhone.

perhaps

If the screen is larger, maybe existing apps will not use the full screen...there will just be a black bar.....sort of like watching 4:3 shows on a 16:9 screen.

Then as dev's update their apps, if they wish, they can use the extra space.

AT&T let me up grade 6 months early, but I was coming from a cheap HTC to the 4S.

I am happy with the current size and form factor
But I won't be unhappy with a bigger screen (unless it gets too big)

However, that said, this form factor is really puzzling to me

Wow way to commit to a side. You must be in politics.

Got both a Galaxy Nexus and an iPhone 4GS (work phone).

Using the Nexus' screen is a dream, love the size and the display.

Whenever I use the iPhone it just looks small and toy like. Hate it now actually. Couldn't go back to a 3.5" toy screen again, I have seen the future and I love it.

Both fit comfortably in my back pocket as well.

PLEASE make it bigger APPLE.

Too ***** late

I know it will sell like gangbusters when it comes out, but for me, it was too ***** late. Traded in my iPhone 4 for a HTC One X. Couldn't stand the frustrations with typing on the small screen (I'm 6'4" and have large hands). After 5 years of staying with the same size screen, I'd had enough. Apple should be way smarter than this... they could have brought out two or three different size iPhones years ago. But again, I believe in voting with my wallet to influence products/services, etc. and unfortunately that has forced me to get outside of Apple's ecosystem. Hopefully they'll do something substantial and eliminate that ugly ~1" of bezel top and bottom of the screen...

It just doesn't even make sense to keep the width but increase the height. Please let them be keeping the same aspect ratio....

For those who find the iPhone screen too small, making it taller will just have them say "oh it's taller" it doesn't do much if you keep th width.

But it wasn't due to the introduction of the iPhone 4S. Probably was based on your account history, and overall standing with AT&T.

AT&T has given me an early upgrade every year. Last year they bumped it from February 2012 to October 2011

4 inch diagonal is perfect. 20 icons per screen, can use with one hand. Same size as my HTC Amaze. Just need to have it on TMO now.

How is that an improvement for anything other than watching HD movies maybe? It wouldn't make it easier to read websites or use certain apps. I really think if the screen is going to get bigger they will keep the same aspect ratio.

He's right...The mock up is horrendous, ugly and horrible. Just because it's a stretched out iP4 doesn't make it automatically beautiful.

All of you are taking these mockups WAY too seriously. The new iPhone won't look squashed or streched, you can bet your ass that Apple will come through on a decent design. stop worrying so much.
