Yeah, no. I expect the next iPhone to basically be a 'iPhone 4GS'.

Case redesign, maybe a larger screen. But basically a 32nm A5, DC 1Ghz, 543MP2, 1GB of RAM with LTE.
No what? There's no reason for them not to use the quad-core A6.

EDIT: Even without the A6 though, that's still enough improvement to warrant being called the iPhone 5.

Got both a Galaxy Nexus and an iPhone 4GS (work phone).

Using the Nexus' screen is a dream, love the size and the display.

Whenever I use the iPhone it just looks small and toy like. Hate it now actually. Couldn't go back to a 3.5" toy screen again, I have seen the future and I love it.

Both fit comfortably in my back pocket as well.

PLEASE make it bigger APPLE.

that's what she said:)

All of you are taking these mockups WAY too seriously. The new iPhone won't look squashed or streched, you can bet your ass that Apple will come through on a decent design. stop worrying so much.

Lol...I don't take ANY of these mockups as possible serious Apple designs. That doesn't mean they can't be ugly....Which this one is.

I own a Galaxy Note and I can reach the full screen with one hand. Since I'm more interested in having a truly mobile tablet that lets me do my ONE daily phone call than in a phone that can only run a tiny, unusable web browser, I very much prefer the Note's form factor over everything else on the market.

For me, the iPhone is too small. But even if there were a 5.3" version of it available, it would still run a restricted, crippled operating system that would always get in my way with its many unnecessary stop signs.

This post is pretty much the definition of trolling.

The Journal is the Bible of Apple Rumors right??

I haven't leant much credence to these larger screen rumors for the past 2 years but now that this is coming from the Journal I'm perking up to listen.

Traditionally, haven't they been the most accurate within the rumor mill, with some joking they have a red phone in their office that goes to Steve Job's desk?

Just trying to adjust my expectation levels here...

I'd love someone to explain to me this sudden quest for bigger devices nowadays, when not so long ago it was all about making them smaller/lighter/slimmer. The bigger in my pocket, the less happy I am, and I think the current iPhone's screen size should remain a standard.
Just a real quick note to all those complaining about a bigger screen...YOU ARE IN THE MINORITY! The iPhone, as it is currently constructed looks like a fisher price toy.

I am an iPhone fanboy and have had every iPhone since day one of the first iPhone, but the device is dated and it's time for a bigger screen and more innovation.

I'm assuming the ratio changes as well then? What solutions will they have for all the apps? Stretched or black corners?

Or persistant Dock???

Or maybe something else entirely. I'm reminded of this patent, which we heard about last year…

Apple Will make a virtual Home button . it as simple as that

I know the idea of removing the home button has been floated before… after all, iOS allows you to return to the home screen using multi-touch gestures anyway. I don't think it's going to happen. A hardware button has some definite advantages (it's not easily bumped by accident for one thing), and it's part of what makes an iOS device so easy for new users to figure out (as opposed to learning new gestures). I don't think Apple will make the same sort of mistake Microsoft did with Windows 8.

WSJ said it, it must be true!!!! They've never, ever, ever been wrong about an iPhone rumor before.

Hey Whiny... it's cool that I call you "Whiny," right?

You sir, have inspired me to sign up to AndroidCentral.com and post how ridiculous people look holding those things, most of the time with their baggy pants around their ankles in the mall, hanging around for obscene amounts of time because they got a DUI and had to have their parents drop them off...

Then I'm going to complain about how Android is the best mobile operating system to have your information, credit cards and personal life stolen on it's insecure, shortcut-ridden, micro-managed operating system that doesn't even ship with a good browser that can properly display PNG's, and of course, is usually around 2 operating system versions behind because carriers and manufacturers don't care about you, so every time you need an upgrade, you need a new phone.

I will however be a tad classier and sign up with the word "Troll" in my name though, as you have forgotten to do...

No, actually, you're the one in the vast, vast minority. Every customer satisfaction survey puts true iPhone at the top of the satisfaction heap, 3.5" screen and all. So I guess people are pretty happy with their "fisher price toys."

4'3" or go home. ;)

I completely agree. The iPhone's screen is now dinky compared to just about every other smartphone out there. I got a Galaxy SII after my iPhone 4 and I love the screen but would rather have an iPhone with a large screen. After using a larger screen the iPhone looks like a tiny toy to me now. And making it a little taller isn't going to cut it.

I've noticed from almost everyone I have asked, it seems like every girl likes it the way it is, and the guys want it sightly bigger. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're still not happy with it overall.

I'm with you on this one. Expand the screen with out expanding the size of the phone.

The problem with this is if they were to attempt to make it an "edge to edge" display they would need to remove the frame that is held by screws on the back of the glass and revert to adhesive. This is a bad in so many ways. The iPhone is one of the few, if not the only smartphone that you can actually repair/assemble with screws vs dealing with cheap plastic snap together parts. These plastic connections also tend to have issues with fit and finish of the product, not to even get into what happens if you should break the glass and need to repair them.

Edge to edge LCD makes the attachment of the LCD to the frame much more difficult. You can't just put adhesive on the back of the LCD and stick it to the frame, this simply doesn't work. The other option is to have the frame outside the glass, which then imo looks bad. While the bezel on the glass can be small, it is still needed to work with the design Apple has across it's line of products.

Of course its true. The WSJ is Apple's unofficial mouthpiece. They are put in charge of Apple to "leak information" so that people can get excited about a bigger iPhone so they don't wander into a store and come out with an Android.

Look at the wording. The words "at least 4 inches" is trying to make people believe that it COULD be as big as one of those competing giant Android phones.

It's total marketing on Apple's part through a paid media outlet.

This kind of confirms it - doesn't it?

Not even close.
This site's rumours are very interesting and good look at what possibly could be coming from Apple in the future. A look only, not hard proof.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has placed orders for screens measuring "at least 4 inches diagonally" for the next-generation iPhone...

Adding a half-inch diagonally won't make a big difference in overall size as long as they keep the same ratio and number of pixels. At the same time it would help placate some the complaints about size and lack of a significant appearance change.

The design and size are already the best on the market, so you don't want to stray too far from what it already is, but want to change it enough to drive interest in buying or upgrading it.
