The main reason why I think there will not be is there would not be significant enough market differences for two iPhones right now. So I think until they find a new niche to differientuate two new models it will not happen

The point is that we're all talking about Apple and the iPhone... rather than Amazon, Fire, Windows Phone 7 Mango, Android, etc. etc.

Yet the top two selling smartphones came out 30 and 18 months ago.
So android phones must suck. Probably 200 android devices have come out in the last 30 months and none of them can outsell the 3GS even?

The rumors don't get me upset, it's all the opinions attached! I get that this could go either way.
1. The 5/5/5 thing is compelling.
2. Starting Tim Cook out with a huge surprise would be incredibly smart.
3. iPad changed from boxy to beveled. That should cause a design update.
4. Missing the June timeframe, only for a speed bump and camera update feels wimpy.
5. A $99 or $149 phone 4 would carry the same design as the iPhone 5 at $299? It doesn't feel like a good product lineup.
6. All these leaks over the past month wouldn't make be making apple furious? It seems like there's something else.
But,
1. Maybe Steve's illness actually did alter some timeframes this year.
2. Maybe there were production problems that puts iPhone 5 into 2012.
3. Could the iPhone 4 design accommodate a larger screen?
4. Not much trail or evidence of an advanced new design.
5. Apple has been rounding off some expectations in small ways. (iPad 2 didn't get the demanded retina display).
My overall thought is....if there is an actual iPhone 5, maybe it will carry a 12/1 release date.
If there is a re-designed iPhone 5 with an October release date, I'd be pretty excited.

Not anymore. There are part leaks for the 4S, and now it has been found in iTunes. There have been no part leaks for the iPhone 5, and it has not been found, well, anywhere.
Not saying there won't be an iPhone 5 - there more than likely is one. But the 4S is no longer "just a rumor."
Too all who insist that Apple could've delivered this in June already:
The WHOLE electronics industry had to struggle after the Fukushima incident to qualify new suppliers and/or new components inside their products, where existing suppliers where affected by the consequences of Fukushima.
Therefore it could be perfectly reasonable that Apple faced the very same problems during development of this new iPhone, eventually leading to the delay we have seen so far.
I would like to see a redesigned iPhone 5 next week, but i would not be too surprised either if it won't happen!

i'm comforted by the chance to jump from a buggy, laggy 3g android phone whose battery will drop 50 percent in 20 minutes of browsing and texting to a smaller form factor phone that just works... always. It looks nice and an a5 will probably be plenty of power to keep it running smooth for 2-3 years. edge-to-edge screen would be nice,
I'm guessing from all the surveys that show the number of android and blackberry users who want to switch that this will be plenty. I'm pretty simple in what i'm looking for from a phone, though. I don't want to be overwhelmed by it... 4g isn't worth it to me, nfc practically scares me... in fact, I want to be able to get through that 20 minute train ride without pulling it out constantly, so the less bells and whistles, the better.

iPhone 4S becomes low end $99
iPhone 5 takes spot of current iPhone 4.
Especially if it has voice assist GPS. Many people will buy it just for that reason regardless of same design. I know I will.
Wrong. No single android phone is outselling iPhone. Android smartphones overall are selling way more than iPhone.

That has always been based on speculation.
Apples history tells us it is unlikely apple would introduce two new products at the same time that were so similar.

Apple's history has no value about this topic, because this is the first time the iPhone release date has been shifted.
Gee, a bunch of different phones at varying prices on every carrier is beating out a phone by only one company on only 2 carriers? I'm shocked!!!!!!!!!!!

No I did NOT!! As a former Android user, I'm looking forward to just about anything from Apple, because ANYTHING would be better than android.

Hasselblad upgraded their cameras over 40 years and they ALL LOOKED THE SAME from the 500C all the way to whatever they called them before they went to the H1. Every body was an upgrade to the previous one.
My point is that Upgrade in Ergonomics does NOT equal better!!
