The NFC signal was there today.... Still declined my USAA MC debit. Asked me for my pin, no choice to run as credit. Same card worked when swiped.

I was bummed, oh and I did try it twice.

To run as credit, push the red cancel button on the terminal.

I've had mixed results using Apple Pay at Home Depot. Last night I tried paying with a Citi MasterCard and was declined.

I called Citi to find out if they had any information on why the transaction was declined. The representative informed me that there is indeed a known issue with Apple Pay MasterCard transactions at Home Depot. MasterCard and Home Depot are working to correct the problem.

Note that this likely isn't a problem with Apple Pay specifically, but rather the contactless EMV standard that Apple Pay is based upon. I'd guess that most issues like this will get resolved as merchants begin enabling their EMV (chip and PIN/signature) slots next year.

Actually it's just Apple Pay. I have a Citi Debit Master Card with PayPass and the PayPass feature is not declined (yes it also uses tokenization), though the same card in Apple Pay is declined. After running it through my POS terminal I purchased off of ebay, I found that when using the PayPass on the card, a fake placeholder name is given to the merchant, though when using Apple Pay, this section is simply blank. I believe this is why Apple Pay MasterCard does not work, Home Depot is not setup to ignore names when using NFC, which is strange as it is the Contactless EMV standard. I will try Google Wallet tomorrow, though it is not showing a place holder name either, so I don't have high hopes.

Why would Amex and Visa work if Home Depot isn't set up to ignore names when using NFC if that's the culprit.

Interesting. So your Citi MasterCard has both an EMV chip and contactless? I didn't know they were issuing dual interface cards.

Citibank is issuing dual interface and has always been a huge proponent of PayPass

Neither of my Citi MasterCards (credit, not debit) with EMV chips include PayPass. They've only offered to send me a separate PayPass sticker.

No, they are not. NFC=Contactless EMV, though I have not seen the dual cards yet for debit at least.

Worked for me at HD self checkout yesterday. Irritating part is, terminal still asked for my signature (total was $59).

I used it successfully at self checkout yesterday but it did not ask for signature--my total was $49.

Under $50.00 and it's up to the retailer if they want to have you sign. Most don't. One around here has people sign no matter how much, or little, you charge (Think it's the Krogers).

Unfortunately at one of the regional drug stores here, I had to sign for a $21 transaction.

I wasn't aware that Kogers accepted Apple Pay yet. Do they? I'm in Texas
Krogers and their family of stores are getting it...albeit slowly. Should be all in place by the end of 2015

At Krogers, I bought a case of beer and had to be stopped from walking away so that I could sign for it. Strange how some companies are... *shrug*

Weird they shouldn't even give you your receipt until you signed the PIN pad

Interesting, one or two the Krogers in my area have had updated payment terminals for months, maybe a year. But the smartcard slot and NFC has been disabled.

I've used Apple Pay at Home Depot twice last week, no issues.

Yahoo is reporting (in a really poorly written news report) that Home Depot is NOT accepting Apple Pay. However, the article smells fishy as 1) Home Depot ($HD) is only mentioned in the article's title, and 2) Yahoo isn't known to be an Apple bull.

So, I attempted to do some digging. There are reports on here (and twitter) of success with Apple Pay at Home Depot, yet, the article claims they turned off support; and, an Apple support document says that it doesn't work there.

I attempted to call HD and find out. The rep I spoke to had no idea what NFC, Apple Pay, or even Google Wallet was. She transferred me to the 'resolutions' department, who ALSO had no idea what any of those words meant.

So, here's the question... Is Apple Pay working at HD? Did they pull the plug? Is Yahoo actually correct? Or, is this a completely bogus news report?

It works just not with any MasterCard cards. Visa and AMEX are fine.

I've bought and returned things at Home Depot multiple times with Apple Pay. No issues on Visa.
