$20 dollars for Ramen? Kid must be buying that gourmet stuff.

Unfortunately here in NY that's par for the course.

Damn you, now I'm craving ramen lol

Wonder if the CC issuers will consider this a charge or a cash advance?

It’s probably the same as getting cash in a checkout line when you pay for stuff at a store. The bank or card issuer doesn’t know you’re getting cash, they just see the amount that the store “charges”.

I don't think so. The article implies there is a clear difference between debit transactions (to which you're referring, I believe), which are usually fee-free and credit transactions, which usually carry an interest rate plus a transaction fee. They say credit transactions will carry a 3% transaction fee, but credit transactions can be either "charge" or "cash-advance". Cash-advance typically carries a higher interest rate for the borrower, so at least for this issue, it matters how the credit transaction is classified.

Apple Pay Cash will only be available in the United States at launch. Apple has yet to share details about a wider rollout.

This is dumb. Why not just launch it in all countries that currently support Apple Pay?

3% fee? Yeah I'll stick to free money transfer services thanks

What service allows you to send money against a credit card for free?

What is the definition of a credit card? I have a CC that says Visa that I can use as either a debit or credit. It accesses a checking account and it doesn't actually charge anything, I have to have the money in the account.

Since it says Visa would I be charged a fee?

No. That’s a debit card and would be free. It just uses the visa network for transactions.

No way. $20 for Ramen is only slightly expensive. I usually spend $22 for Toto Ramen in NYC after tip and tax. In fact, I was just there not even 2 hours ago.

Darn it. I was hoping to use this tomorrow for someone I need to pay back. Well, guess I won't be doing that to pay him back.

My guess now is that iOS 11.1--which will roll out circa mid-October 2017--will add the Apple Pay Cash functionality. It's similar to what Apple did in 2014 when iOS 8.1 rolled out about a month after the iPhone 6 shipped to add the NFC-based Apple Pay system. That means iOS 11.2 will roll out at the beginning of November 2017, which will add functionality specific to the iPhone X, especially Face ID functionality.

Yay!! for those that need and will receive... Boo!! for those that have historically said I would but i don't have anyway to get it to you :D

In Sweden we have an app for this already "Swish". You send money to a phone number, eg the user doesn't have to use an Apple device.

PayPal - wait 3-5 business days for money to be deposited into bank account.

Apple Pay - instant use.

PayPal -

Paypal offers instant deposit for a few of my well known accounts like Chase. It's not available for the lesser known issuers though. Waaay in the past my deposits always happened within 1 business day when quoted 3-5.

This is something I believe will kill Venmo with time. I can't wait for this feature, I'll be using this a lot.

Non iOS / (Android) devices will probably keep Venmo going.

This is different because it’s part of the core OS and might open the door to the end of these money transfer apps.

WeChat China and Line Japan welcome you to many years ago.

I’ll put a “FIRST!!!!1!!!” trophy in the mail for those companies, I guess? Getting to market ahead of others doesn’t make something the best.
