I was a clydesdale customer, I switched recently to Santander pretty glad I did now that they are a launch partner.

Oyster card on my iPhone/watch! Now that is a real coup. Apple have also included my bank....double coup.

I don't think it's Oyster on your device; it's taking the regular single fare from your bank card (subject to daily/weekly capping). It would be good to have a way of using iPhone/Apple Watch whilst also getting railcard discounts (which are applied to Oyster cards) and long term Travelcard rates.

Really disappointed to see that Barclays have not joined Apple Pay having waited all this time for Apple Pay to launch in the UK.

I don't think it's an Oyster card per se.

It's simply being used as a contactless credit card.

People with American bank accounts on Apple Pay have been doing this on TfL all along.
Sky news reported it as the Oyster card. Oh well, I was happy for a little while.

Has anyone seen what date it's being released in the UK? I know it's July but wondered if it going beginning of the month or towards the end?

So are we going to be able to use this in any shop that has contactless readers? I thought it would only work in stores that had been announced but the website suggests differently...

knowing apple it will be the end of july!

Most the time I only carry a debit card, my phone and a watch around. I look forward to dropping the oversized, redundant, insecure/swipe-able bit of plastic my debit card has become since practically every terminal in the UK is contactless now.

But for backup, I wonder if M&S and Waitrose will do cashback with Apple Pay ?
I know someone who works at santander and has confirmed they are now installing contactless ATM machines.

Our local tesco don't do contactless so I doubt they will have it. Morrissons do they so it might work there. Another reason to not go to tesco....

Tesco have been 'trialling' contactless in London for a while now although as far as I can remember they are pretty sour over the technology and would prefer to create their own payment system, like that terrible CurrentC thing in America. Given their current situation, don't think it would be too wise for them to deny payment options for long though ;)

Honestly, I thought this - but Nationwide really are at the forefront of things now.

They're working on an Apple Watch app, supported V.me from the start and have PayM support. Their app seems to be one of the better mobile banking apps around.

Barclays have mobile cheque deposit pilot running and smart watch pilot, so why not Apple pay?

Will be changing banks if they don't adopt it soon.

I'm not surprised tesco are going against the grain; as far as "budget supermarkets" go, Tesco seem to have lost poll position a while back and have since been overtaken by "lidl", who have some surprisingly good prices and are even going to support apple pay! I only really go by Tesco to use their free parking or free toilets.

They have contactless in Tesco's outside of London. I know that St Albans, Hatfield and Stevenage stores have contactless, some only got them recently so they must still be rolling it out.

This is a disgrace from Barclays. Been with them for so long, now is like a deal breaker. WTF Barclays? How can YOU be the only major bank not supporting Apple Pay? I thought Barclays is also the most tech savvy bank, they should have been the first to welcome this!

I have a dead Nationwide account, looks like it's time to make it live...

I've been really looking forward to this,
But alas my bank is not listed, (Clydesdale Bank)
May have to swap to the HSBC

Why HSBC? You could switch to Halifax, for example, and get paid to do so.

I'm not as excited as I would have been about six months ago, as most of the shops I go to now accept contactless card payments, which frankly is brilliant. Now I don't feel the need for my iPhone to do it

Having said that, it will be handy to have, as I often misplace my bank card and spend ten minutes searching for it before leaving the house ... Always have my phone though ;)

Also, Halifax, Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and TSB (all Lloyds Banking Group) won't have it until Autumn :( doesn't bother me enough to switch banks though

TSB is no longer part of Lloyds Banking Group (though I believe LBG still has shares in TSB).

Where do you live?! Although most of the terminals near me are contactless, most don't have contactless enabled unfortunately.

My local Tesco has only been open a few weeks, but they don't have contactless. You'd think they'd hsve fited out a brand new store with then if they were rolling out contactless.

Morrisons have just upgraded all there checkouts, suely the £20/30 limit has to go, (for fingerprint authenticated) virtually everyone spends more than £20 with a trolley full of shopping.

I just remembered a rumour on this website about a month ago that one major UK bank was holding up the launch, well I think we now know this was Barclays all along. Well done barclays, you delayed the launch for everyone else and don't even support it when it does get launched. Who banks with barclays anyway after the libor scandal and being rated as having the worst customer service of any bank in the UK?

It's not like their current account is particularly competitive which might be a reason.

Anyone able to help me understand how this will work on the London Underground? The TfL readers require you to tap in and out of the network when you enter or exit a station, calculating the fare based on your route. I thought tokenization equaled anonymity, yet TfL must have the capability to track the same card across multiple taps.

Are you sure there is really much of a difference ? I think ApplePay can fallback from NFC to RFID (which are virtually the same thing just running in different modes); On the apple website it says "Look for one of these symbols at checkout." and one of them is just the standard contactless RFID symbol and the other being Apple Pay / NFC.
