Sweet, me too! It makes purchasing things difficult when you don’t carry your wallet around any more.
I have not bought anything at a CVS in four years. I'll cross the road to get to a Walgreens when standing right next to a CVS because they don't have Apple Pay.

Edit: Now I'll have to check my local CVS to see if it's ok to shop there again.

Hmmm...sarcasm or honesty? I think former. :) If so, I agree. It's just as easy to grab a CC and do the transaction that way.

The only place I would REALLY love to use AP is at gas stations (at the pump), where CC info is ripped off daily from card scammers. But, I've yet to see a pump that takes AP.

I'm starting to see them around here (VA suburbs of DC), in newer, or newly remodeled stations. One near my house recently redid the store and pumps - I can pay at the pump with my watch there now. I've been using the Exxon/Mobil Speedpass app for a couple years now. Not quite as convenient, but it does use Apple Pay, so at least I'm not swiping my card.

i dont understand how apple pay works in U.S.A.. here in europe bank matters, not stores. once u have a credit/debit card from a bank that support apple pay, u can pay everywhere u can pay normally with a contactless card. in fact iphone copies the nfc chip from credit card, that's all!

Awesome deal to bring that convenience to the millions who shop at the largest convenience store chain in the country.

A lot of pissy comments in here over this. I don't see any reason why giving consumers more ways to pay with ease is a bad thing.

Did we read the same thread? One thing that stood out in 3 pages of comments is everyone was FOR Apple Pay.

I'm not from the USA so I don't know how relevant this is, but here in Australia it seems like EVERYWHERE that supports cards these days also supports contactless payments. Is this why 7/11 supporting Apple Pay is such a big deal? Contactless support is rare?

It’s not like Apple Pay requires requires some proprietary equipment. It works on any card reader that supports tap, which is almost everywhere now. I rarely find places that I can’t use it, and I live in Canada, which launched Apple Pay later than US.
Walmart is pretty much the only place I can't use it in Canada. They want that tracking data.

Not all pumps unfortunately. The one near my in-laws house accepts it at the pump. The one by my house has 8 of the same style pump but NFC disabled, and 8 older pumps without NFC capability.

Edit: They all have it enabled at the terminals in the store. So I do use it in there every time I go in. But I never pay for gas in there, I do that at the pump.

In the US, Arco accepts AP at the pump and Mobil accepts AP if you pay through their app. I don’t buy gas anywhere else unless with cash (rarely).

If you go to Arco, can you pay with a CC in AP or does it still only work with debit cards? The only reason I don't ever go to Arco is their policy to not take credit cards...

In Canada almost every payment terminal accepts "tap" payments and as soon as Apple Pay became available in Canada every single tap compatible payment terminal worked with it. no direct deals needed to be made with any businesses.

Most still don't, but there are a few near me that do. Might be similar where you are.

I know of 2 pumps (conveniently in Cupertino, CA) that take AP, but that's it. Outside of those two pumps I've never seen any other place take AP. I wonder if a certain company had something to do with that.

With that said, yeah, I think the only place I really would need to have contactless payments is gas stations because of the security issue. Most other stores aren't going to be that big of an issue anyway, especially as live terminals are upgraded to be EMV friendly.

They added it to the one next to me about 3 weeks ago, I make it a point to stop by there and grab a drink at least once a week now.

i thought they've always had them? i've been using apple pay at 7-eleven for at least a couple of months now
Some did, mine didn’t.

Too bad Apple can't figure out a way to create a bridge for payments for companies like Walmart. That way you could use Apple Pay at any retailer.
That’s what Samsung did with MST

You guys had contactless payments in Canada years ago. That really just started becoming an option in the U.S. within the last few years; and it hasn’t really caught on with a lot of retailers yet. We’re about 10 years behind you in terms of the infrastructure for contactless payments.

Arco pumps do in CA.

The merchant has to have an NFC reader and all staff need to be trained how to use it. Since most cards don't have NFC in the US, readers are rare and not everyone is trained.

And it does far more than "copy the nfc chip from a credit card". You are issued a new card number that is never publicly visible to anyone and is linked to Apple as the "Issuing Bank". Apple communicates with your bank and then authorises the payment, taking on responsibility for any fraudulent transactions and also keeping about half of the credit card payment fee.
