Hmmm...sarcasm or honesty? I think former. :) If so, I agree. It's just as easy to grab a CC and do the transaction that way.

The only place I would REALLY love to use AP is at gas stations (at the pump), where CC info is ripped off daily from card scammers. But, I've yet to see a pump that takes AP.
Maybe it's not in your country yet but the Shell app uses Apple pay at the pump. Weirdly gas is the only thing I use Apple pay for.
But for most of those extolling the virtues of Apple pay, (good a system though it is), I suspect a lot of bluster and that price is still king in purchasing decisions.

All the Chevron stations in my area have AP. It’s awesome.

Because I totally make buying decisions based on whether the store offers Apple Pay..

Yes, it does. A shop that does offer Apple Pay is the one that gets my money first when I don't have a wallet with me (which I don't tend to carry now days)
Luckily for us in UK, is hard to find a store that does not have contactless terminal. therefore Apple Pay. They are just about everywhere. Even our little canteen where I work does offer Apple Pay.

Isn't Walmart basically "the" store in many rural areas? We may be waiting a while.

Yes. Though Dollar General has been doing pretty well lately. Stock up 46% in the past 12 months. It fits between Mall-Wart and a stop-n-shop convenience store.

In the Netherlands 1 Vietnamese food stall and a nail studio accept Apple Pay (well, sort of, they have the sticker), but the Apple store doesn't :)
Time to get my toe nails done.

As mentioned in this thread by several people, contactless doesnt necessarily mean Apple Pay accepted.

In Australia there is contactless payment almost everywhere - but hardly anywhere is Apple Pay allowed.

The UK system is that Apple/Google Pay operates as a contactless card. This means it is subject to a £30 transaction ceiling. If the shop explicitly supports Google/Apple Pay rather than just contactless, then the ceiling is lifted. I have seen the odd shop (Decathlon), where Google Pay (Android Pay at the time) was accepted at the self service tills but not Apple Pay, meaning no transaction, even under £30, was processed. I tried and it caused the till to bluescreen and reboot. So rude.

Thats just not true. 99% of CC machines support tap payment and if they do then apple pay works - 100%. Contactless payment is huge in Australia and has been for a few years.

The big issue in Australia is that the 3 biggest banks have refused to join ApplePay so if you're with them then you can't get it. Simple - Change banks. Dozens of other banks do support it.

I'm sure that loads of other people have made comments like this about Apple Pay, but here in the UK, we've had contactless payments on our current account cards for about half a decade now.

Apple Pay is nice when I can't be bothered to get my bank card out, but not really that essential. I have it enabled just in case I forget my wallet i.e. as a fallback.

In fact, contactless is accepted at so many places now that it's becoming really normal for me to not carry any cash around now & only get cash out every 2-3 weeks.

Finally, I was in NYC last year and I was really surprised at what a cash carrying society it was there, where the default by far seemed to be payment in cash.

I guess it's because tipping is a bigger thing in the USA than the UK where (increasingly) your tip is added as a default option to your bill.

Having said that, you have to remember which places do that and which don't as you can be in an embarrassing situation where you pay via contactless but the bill doesn't include a tip and you don't have any cash on you...

Exactly what I did told Westpac to take a hike. Moved to ING. Great bank.

I'm genuinely confused. Why is this a business by business rollout?

Surely, all merchants need are contactless card readers and you're set? Or is this not the case in the US?

I, on the other hand, find it ridiculous that this is news when a company comes years late to the party. Apple Pay works with any reader that accepts contactless cards, which in the UK means practically everywhere. Unless the store invests time and money to prevent it. Is the USA such a backward country that accepting contactless cards is news?

Why is the US behind on NFC-payments.?
America is supposed to be the IT-revolution forerunner of the world, but when it comes to payments and banking you guys a behind :p

I hardly ever have to carry a wallet anymore.
Whereever i travel across europe, i just tap my phone and pay.

And it's the same with peer to peer payments.
if i want to send money, i just "mobile-pay" it to their phone-number and the recipient will have their money on their private account instantly, easy.

GET ON BOARD AMERICA, THE SHIP IS SAILING!

i dont understand how apple pay works in U.S.A.. here in europe bank matters, not stores. once u have a credit/debit card from a bank that support apple pay, u can pay everywhere u can pay normally with a contactless card. in fact iphone copies the nfc chip from credit card, that's all!
Apple Pay even worked in Europe for American customers whose bank supported Apple Pay, before any European banks did, as long as the store could use contactless cards.

Using Apple Pay on an iPhone is a bit faster than a CC, but doing it on an Apple Watch is a lot more convenient. Here in the U.S., Chevron was supposed to have implemented Apple Pay at the pump, but I haven't seen that yet. So far, it's limited to inside the store, which I avoid.

Two minute walk to save two seconds (if that) on payment processing? All for what? To experience that warm feeling of knowing that Apple is going to get a small fee?

Two minutes walk is healthy for you. Apple gets a small fee (from your bank) which more than pays for itself by reducing fraud. You can buy goods with my stolen contactless bank card, but not with my stolen iPhone. Fraudulent employees or people hacking the card terminal can copy your card details; they can't do that with Apple Pay.

Dunno. Some retailers still require a signature after you use Apple Pay.
That doesn't make any sense at all.

So it works for me if I visit Australia as a tourist, but not for many Australians. What a shame.

Why are you saying my statement "Apple Pay is not supported everywhere" is false?
Then you go on to say, the top 3 banks in Australia don't even support Apple Pay. haha

Having the ability to support Apple Pay and accepting Apple Pay at your store, is two different things.

Went to Denmark on vacation: haven't seen a single coin/crown! Only Austria is way behind. You still need cash over there and the only reason I carry a pocket wallet with me as I work over there.

I'm not sure what your point is. ApplePay is accepted fairly much everywhere. Even the CC machines issued by banks that won't let people use ApplePay on phones support it.

3 banks don't issue ApplePay to customers. lots do. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT206638

If you get an account with a bank that will give you ApplePay then you can use it at fairly much every store that accepts credit cards because contactless payment acceptance is near 100%.
