It's pretty annoying that it turns out that all of these banks that were boasting of supporting Apple Pay from Day 1 actually meant that just some of their cards/accounts would support it, but don't seem to offer any guidance on which cards are/aren't supported.

Yes, technically if just one of their products works then they're supporting it, but the implication is that when you say you're supporting something without any caveats, it means practically everyone's going to be able to use it.

A total PR disaster for HSBC and First Direct.

Why on earth did they allow their name to be associated with the first wave? They allowed expectations to climb, knowing full well they would not meet them. This was completely unavoidable and whatever the real reasons are, it's made them look detached from their customers and incompetent.

They chose to bury the release details in a press release, why didn't they just have a banner on the front of their web page for the last few months. If they really never had any intention of releasing today, then someone in corporate PR should be looking for a new job. This is exactly the sort of unnecessary brand harm they are paid to prevent.

Couldn't have put it better myself

RBS debit added here ,but need to RBS to complete verification... anyone else get this?
I got it for my credit card but not my debit card. Go into Passbook in the settings and select the card in question, it should then give you an option of selecting an alternative way of authorising your card other than ringing them up.

Anyone Travelled on the tube or the bus yet using this? I wonder what those ticket inspectors will be thinking when we flash out our phones for them.

The Ticket Inspector on the Docklands Light Railway was fine when I said I paid with my watch. He waved his card reader at the watch and said that it showed I had paid.

Anyone managed to get their card on their Apple Watch? Works fine on the phone and I was able to pay at Tesco but whenever I try to add the card to my watch I just get "Could Not Set Up Apple Pay - An error occurred while setting up Apple Pay"

Tried to register my Halifax Visa (RBS) no dice. Bit disappointing. Does the card itself have to be contactless in order to work with AP?

I believe you can only do one transaction with a max of £30.

What is more interesting is that they believe that someone who has an iPhone, and Apple watch etc and goes shopping for groceries, thier basket comes under £30.

It was a joke mate :)

Francesca McDonagh at HSBC

She is responsible for the poor information in the HSBC press release. HSBC customers, I would direct your HSBC questions directly to her on Twitter and copy in @HSBC_UK_Help

RBS website now says "Available on selected RBS personal current accounts and RBS MasterCard credit cards." So if you've got an RBS Visa credit card like I have then you're out of luck

Are you running Watch OS 2 beta 3. If so then not supported in this beta.

It would appear the blue debit cards are not supported - I'm in the same boat. You'll need to request the purple card if eligible.
I've got a joint account I don't know if this comes with purple cards, tbh I never knew there was different cards until today with apple pay launch lol have to get on to them to see if they can offer a apple pay supported joint account

Nationwide and AMEX cards worked fine on my watch.

Halifax are not supported till later in the year.

:-/ dammit. Guess I'll have to get McDonalds in the old fashioned way for now. My life is over, can't deal with this anymore.

Looking forward to it becoming active, think it's such a cool idea.

So none of my cards will load including my business Amex and also my Tesco issued MasterCard (which I'm surprised about !)..

My 'One Account' card has loaded but it is now telling me to phone them for verification ? Anyone else had this ? I haven't had to phone my bank for years so not sure what they are going to want to know to verify ?

I *think* the over £30 limit is removed if you're buying from one of the official AP partners-Waitrose, Apple Stores etc.

I may be wrong about that, so don't take it as gospel! :D

Waitrose are upgrading their terminals to support AP for unlimited transaction amounts in the autumn as part of a wider 'new payments' initiative. Not sure whether the upgrade will be hardware or software based though.

Is it correct that your recent watch transactions don't show in passbook?

I can see the transactions from my phone but not from my watch.
