Used it first in the restaurant at work - it worked perfectly. The server was extremely bemused at my suggestion to pay with my phone at first and she closely examined the receipt when it printed.

When I tried at Waitrose my phone said it had worked and showed the amount paid but the payment terminal and recognise it and continued to prompt for payment. I reauthorised and it worked.

Morrisons was a disaster. TouchID recognition failed - probably due to sweaty fingers - and then when it finally did work the system went into processing mode and eventually the transaction declined. Again the phone said it was a success. Not sure what caused this seeing as it should work everywhere but Morrisons saying on Twitter that they will support from tomorrow. The slightly rude self checkout assistant tried to tell me that it was Apple Watch only.

It worked perfectly at Boots, M&S and Tesco.

Next time I'll go to the main checkout rather than self checkout to experience more bemusement from the checkout staff.

I did notice a non-detrimental delay compared to contactless card due to online authorisation.

Same happened to me in Morrisons, I just put it down to their Self Checkout machines being useless. I can't see that they are going to change anything to support it tomorrow - they are so behind with technology I am surprised they even accept Contactless.

Not according to what we have been told. If the transaction is over £20, the terminal will not offer contactless as an option until the update in August (as was the case before Apple Pay launch).
You're right. M&S just tweeted me confirming your statement.

TFL are moving away from Oyster towards contactless because Oyster is now too limited for their requirements.

Actually, it makes sense that Oyster continues to use their own cards for monthly passes, for kid's passes, and for student passes. A normal mobile payment can't differentiate those things.

However, an NFC app would allow all those Oyster options to available in the phone at the same time.

Besides why do they need to open it up? Apple allow cards in Passbook, all the TFL have to do is make the passbook app for it.

I don't understand. Non-bank cards in Passbook use barcodes.

They are utterly useless aren't they! Looks like they might be trialling the superiors NCR machines though.. https://twitter.com/dresserman/status/605385403126960129

The sad thing is they will have spent a lot of money implementing contactless across their stores and when Apple Pay - the biggest change in payments since introduction of contactless - launches they are just not ready. They were surely contacted by Apple and could have been on board as a lunch partner. Instead they are waiting until the day of launch to start training staff on it. Very poor.

I found that the self-checkout machines in Morrison's seem to be the worst, and they were probably the last supermarket to introduce them. They are really bad. I don't shop there very often as there isn't one near me, but it's always a depressing visit.

My girlfriend and I share a NatWest current account with our own separate cards, both Visa debit cards. Hers is purple and contactless and mine is blue and non-contactless. Only hers can be added to Apple Pay. NatWest are denying that only contactless cards work but in my case that seems true. It's certainly not account based, it's the same account.

Just ask for a replacement. However, I have a contactless card from nationwide and my husband has a "non" contactless card for the same (joint) account, I added mine to my phone and watch without problem and he did the same with his.

They called me back in the end, took some details on the phone and then said my card would be activated in a few hours. This was around 5pm and it's not activated yet, I'm hoping it will work tomorrow.

Ah Okay Great - just checked my voicemail and it appears they have called me back tonight as well. I shall give them a call in the morning..

Gotta say I'm always impressed with the One Account Customer Service - 1st class that they said they would phone us back and actually have !

Let me know how you get on with activation :)

just been to my local co-op food store and no Apple pay signage up anywhere to display whether it's available there was planning on trying it but didn't want to risk just in case, typical where I live shops to do this but need to post something I sold tomorrow at the post office so will try there. Also had to pick up a prescription in my local boots and nothing there either

Worked for me in my local Co-Op :)

The only difference I can think of is you wouldn't be able to use it at a pay at pump petrol station or for contactless! And no overdraft. If you don't require to use any of these then it will have been much the same as any account.

You are exactly right! I could never use the card at pay at pump, I never thought of it, just assumed my old card was too messed up lol. Well my new RBS current account is appearing on my internet banking now so just need the card to arrive and hopefully it works with apple pay.

On hold with RBS for 50 mins to verify my card. All sorted till I checked my watch and have to phone again to verify on that!

Seeing as the watch would have to be erased to work on another iPhone why the need to verify twice?

Wait, you have to call RBS to activate apple pay?! Do they not send you a text with a code?

What does your journey history show?

It shows an incomplete trip starting at Bank. I applied for a refund this morning. Have found the watch to work very well on TFL and do not feel stupid putting my left wrist on reader to get through. Probably will the moment it goes wrong but worked fine last night and this morning.

Just a little thought for using Apple Pay on the tube with an Apple Watch...

The ticket barriers have the card reader on the right-hand side. More natural for the majority of the population, and not too awkward for the lefties among us. (Left-handed that is, not Guardian readers).

However, the vast majority of people wear a watch on the left wrist. Many lefties wear watches on the left wrist too.

So, imagine double-pressing the button on the watch to initiate Apple Pay. You've then got to reach over to the right-hand side with your left wrist whilst moving forward through the barrier.

The more bendy amongst us might attempt some kind of pirouette :)

Could be that a phone is actually more handy getting through station barriers...

(Not that I'd be able to test this theory... I'm waiting for Barclays to sort their lives out).

Actually I have done this five times and it is really easy, even though watch is on my left writcj. Watch is much preferred on TFL for me. In other places I will take a punt based on location of card reader. For instance at Birleys they hog the card reader and want you to hand them the contactless card for processing themselves, which I find weird. Am not going to use my watch with them

Where did you hear the August date for M&S?

Why does Visa and Mastercards have to be negotiated with every single bank in the world??
Seems rather stupid to me.. that Apple can't simply make a deal with Visa and then apply it to all Visa holders - it's not like my bank has to make a contract with all the online CC-gateways out there.. why the difference???

I just thought. At last I have a reason to take the Passbook app out of my Apple "junk" folder! :p
Lol. Same here. Wallet has made it to the homescreen.

If you go into settings, then passbook, then select your card it will come up with an alternative way of authorising your card, including a text code.

Putting Paasbook on the home page is a good idea for those of us on 8.4, but if your on 9 then why do you need to do that when you can use the short cut of double clicking the home button.

Also does anyone else think that Passbooks app icon looks better than Wallets?

Double clicking only works when device is locked. What if I'm already using my phone I'd have to lock it to then double click.

Can someone recommend a good cashback credit card that works with apple pay. Both my existing cards are with non supporters, so they have to go.
Cheers.
