Had my first experience last night in McDonalds, worked a treat. I fumbled a bit on the double click as I was sightly nervous of it not working and looking a tool but as soon as the card was there I just held it up, took about a second to find the sweet spot and then payment was instant!

Got a cheeky glance at my wrist from the guy next to me and my mate saying "what the f*** did you just do" but it was all very smooth and you can't deny that you feel pretty cool doing it too. Now I'm just excited to go use it again. :D

Set up my mbna issued Amex card yesterday and tried it in boots which worked well despite the cashier having no clue what I was doing.

Just tried using it in McDonald's, watch buzzed to confirm payment quickly followed by a message on the terminal reader saying "Security prompt please insert card" I understood the need to have random checks when using contactless cards but I thought apple pay would avoid this need, hopefully just a software glitch.

I suspect that ApplePay will be quicker once you get fully used to double clicking, as there is no possibility of card clash.

Yeah, because London is the only huge city in the world with lots and lots of traffic.
It is the only large city in the world where you can ingress and egress through a barrier at rush hour by using Apple pay.

Just used it at McDonalds, staff said they didn't accept it but tried and it worked fine.

Chances are they weren't told about any new magical payment method, they just know to take cash or card. I plan to just treat it as a card (if the reader takes contactless) and hope it doesn't shoot me down when I try.

Bought something in KFC today with the watch, employee was impressed :)

I used Apple pay at my local Tesco's today. Payment wouldn't go through when I selected credit/debit card on the self service till, had to select Contactless payment, which i didn't notice at first.

Second experience last night (apologies if you don't care...)

Went to McDonalds (again. I should probably stop that) and was a lot more confident this time. Went to pay, the girl told me that I'm her first Apple Pay customer so she wasn't sure how it would work, I said it should be fine and presented my watch... NOTHING! Absoloutely NOTHING! Feeling like an idiot I've now got a bit of a smug audience of 2 staff and 4 customers and I go to get my wallet before I realise that the Pay app has closed for some reason. A quick double click, present the watch again AND THE CROWD GOES WILD! (no but everyone was smiling and pretty impressed).

I'm seriously hoping that this little flaw was my error and I'll get used to it in time. Has anybody else had the card disappear for some reason or just me?

Has anyone found the 'recent transaction' list for Apple Watch payments? There is one the phone, for phone payments, but I couldn't find the watch one, either on the watch itself, or the apple watch app on the phone.
I do't think there is one on the Watch. When I paid with Amex, I got a notification of the payment on the watch but once I dismissed it, it vanished for ever.

Shopped in Boots twice today. It was the first time for the cashiers both times. For some reason I pretended it was my first time too (why did I do that?!). Neither really knew what to do and I had to tell them it was just like contactless. Both were genuinely excited!

What's surprising to me, is that many countries that have had contactless terminals for years, apparently have not also had any contactless mobile phone payment apps.

E.g. Japan has been using NFC phone payments for years. The US had Google Wallet on Android since 2011, and Softcard since 2013.

Scandanavia and Estonia have had NFC parking payments, as have some others, but it's apparently not usable in stores.

Were there no general purpose NFC phone payment apps at all in Europe before this? What about Canada and Australia? Did everything use separate contactless cards until now?

Has anyone been able to make a payment of over £20? I understood ( and I could be wrong ) that certain retailers are accepting payments by Apple Pay for amounts over £20.

My new RBS card arrived just now, added and verified with Apple Pay within minutes! Not got my PIN number yet, wonder if it will still work.. I know sometimes you need to use your PIN once to activate contactless pay.
