I don't know a single person who likes paypal. Most sellers hate it, and the general public is completely indifferent

Where do you shop that makes PayPal the "king of payment processing" for you? I do nearly all my shopping online and only once every 5-6 months out of hundreds of transactions do I encounter a vendor that requires utilizing PayPal.

Paypal does 1 /6 of all eCommerce transactions. Does anyone do more than that, if so, then I can be corrected.

Just because you do not see a Paypal Logo does not mean they are not executing the transaction. See my other posts. The statistics stand on their own.

What would define Apple Pay's success? For Apple it is a service through which its customers can successfully compete both E and physical transactions without having to provide specific credit card information. I don't expect people in Europe to start lining up at apple stores and switch over to Apple or start buying 800$ phones (instead of much cheaper phones) just because Apple Pay exists. What it allows apple to do is provide a safe and secure way to execute transactions - to its customers while adding value to its eco-system. It will also open up a new revenue stream for the company especially in the E-commerce side of things with the sort of success the iPad enjoys with online shopping. Other than that its just another form of NFC payment and it wouldn't cost the vendors a whole lot of money to be apple pay compatible if they already have existing NFC payment systems in place. Both Apple Pay and iBeacons will take time to catch on but even if a fourth of Apple's future customers embrace it, then I feel it will be a huge success. Currently Apple has the 6 and 6+, the Apple watch and the rumored iPad Air2. The customer base is substantial (especially if the Apple watch sells in numbers) for them to start generating business through apple pay.

Paypal is fundamentally different imho, with it one has to have a credit card or a bank account linked up to the paypal account. With Apple pay (from what I read) one just needs to snap a picture of the credit card and the information is stored on the device and not on some company's cloud where one needs to maintain an account. With apple pay i deal with my vendor and my credit card company or bank. With Paypal I am dealing with them, the vendor, the credit/debit card company for essentially the same service. Plus there is security in that my credit card information is secured through touch ID, encryption and not shared on some company's systems that can be hacked.

We already have NFC payment cards, that cost £0.00 with our bank or credit accounts. Using a bank card is also quicker than fiddling with a damn phone.

It also doesn't show everyone in the world you got a £600 phone. It'll take off a lot faster in the US where NFC and Chip 'n' Pin is still in it's early stages.

or $350 Persil Apple Watch for that matter.

Very true. We would be bemoaning the death of Apple's class, ethics, and good taste. We'd be crying over a deal that would do nothing but bring Apple down. We would be sad that Satan's forces had scored a victory.

Thank god that didn't happen.

Death to Paypal

Really? So much dramatics.

You'd be all "Apple is great", "Apple is selling its Apple Pay" , "Apple are magical", if this was Apple instead of Samsung. Apple is showing its class right now...

Well, iCloud wasn't "hacked" at all...so... best to have a clue what you're talking about before contributing.

Well Apple's lax security made it easy for someone to change the password to gain access to the account, didn't it? That's why Apple quickly added security measures to prevent it from happening again.

Yea Paypal has absolutely no room to talk here. My paypal has been hacked twice, and I will not under any circumstances give them my bank account info.

When you hack iCloud, you get naked pictures of celebrities. When you hack Paypal accounts, you get a direct line into their checking account with no legal recourse to getting your money back.

I think for most people having your paypal account hacked is more of a problem. Nobody wants to see 99.999% of the nude pictures that are floating around. There are lots of people who would love to drain your bank account.

So that makes it ok?

----------

Different people said different things then. It happens so often here that people generalise on this forum:

-"all the iPhone 6 haters will buy it anyway..."
-"The new iPad is ugly but all the people saying it will be in line..."

I remember an awful lot of Apple defending in that thread.

Whatever. PayPal sucks anyway. I only use them to accept an ebay payment and transfer it to my bank account. I wouldn't use them to make payments out there in the wild.

I think apple is bipolar. If they hate Samsung so much why do they still get parts from them. This is pretty childish.

Because Samsung can supply the functionality they need at the quality level they require for a price that is better than anyone else - all 3 have to happen. Pretty businesslike, actually.

This is why people see Apple as a petulant child. They don't get exclusivity, they kick you out, they cant have their way, they buy a competitor and try to sue you into obliviion.

PayPal has shareholders (today via eBay and tomorrow on their own) they have to hold up to their interests and not Apples. Cry some more about this Apple.

Not a fan of PayPal by any stretch, but get tired of Apples attitude and retaliatory actions like banning tech blogs from access to test devices and access to press announcements IF they reported on the #Bendgate.

Dramatics? If anything I don't go far enough!

I am still highly suspicious of these Tesla elecctric cars because of their founder's early work with PayPal. Time will tell, but right now I'm not won over for that fact alone.

THAT'S how much I hate PayPal. I hope Apple never touches them with a 300 foot pole.

My guess is PayPal was making demands and playing hardball with Apple at the same time they were negotiating a sweetheart deal with Samsung.

Of course, Apple would walk away in this circumstance.

Can't say I'm disappointed in the least...

Only times I actually use my paypal account is when I buy something off eBay or I'm ordering stuff from certain far away countries, but that's only because there's some weird problem with my Visa Electron card whenever I try and ordering from certain east asian countries like Japan (bank says the problem isn't on their end and the store says it's not on their end ether). The really weird part is that the card works just fine when I order from Play Asia, which is based in Hong Kong.

Then don't. You have your consumer choice.

I've used PayPal for years without any problems. They even help me get my money back from a vendor who took more money from my account than what they were supposed to take. Quick phone call to PayPal fixed it.

If it's possible for a vendor to take more money out of your PayPal account than what you authorise, it's time to ditch PayPal. It doesn't matter if they got it back for you. That's a massive hole in their system and something that you probably need to be aware of for them to action.

My experience with PayPal is poor. They override credit card security as they provide their own which is far less secure. They would not allow me to close my account until I provided valid identification. I had already given them my drivers license and passport. What a bunch of arrogant, greedy time wasters.

The best advice on here was by the poster who said 'if I see PayPal as the only payment option, I go elsewhere'.

I liked PayPal as a method of payment until I had to use it as an ebay seller. The fees are just ridiculous. I hope they choke on my money. Bloodsuckers.

I hope PayPal goes out of business.

Along with Samsung, Google, Microsoft, Motorola, HTC, Nokia, LG, WalMart, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, all banks and credit card companies, all cable companies, all insurance companies, etc? Then Apple could fill the void in all those markets too.
