But the library is weak. Apple TV+ should release 24 NEW shows per year. Apple TV+ should release 24 movies per year with 10 being big box office films

There are magnitudes away from being viable by just "new"/exclusive content and IMO they need to buy/licence a truckload of good old shows and movies.

Optimal solution would be for it to turn into AppleMusik-TV where you find everything on it for one reasonable monthly price instead of having to hunt down the few good shows over 28 streaming services (or more likely elsewhere).

You can still decide for yourself. Apple isn't forcing anything on you. Don't know why you framed your post as if you didn't have a choice.

Apple is merely trying to expand its services catalogue and user base. That can be done will still making phones.
They are wasting money. Nobody needs a TV channel baked into a phone - or even into a TV set top box. That’s why they are still handing it out for free. Nobody needs it and nobody wants it.

Tough luck if the ugly facts are uncomfortable to read.

There is a lot of content coming. If you look at the Wikipedia, I count around 75 upcoming new series/films/documentaries - and that is without several 2nd seasons of already shown content.
I liked most of the content so far, they seem to be on a good track. And while I love SF, I am happy that they try to build new content instead of piggybacking on star wars or superhero stuff.

WASTE of money.
Just like APPLE buying BEATS Headphones.
now they are building their own. Shows that buying BEATS headphones was a Huge Waste of money
DR DRE got rich. thats all that counts.

You’ve missed the strategy behind the purchase. In one fell swoop they eliminated a massive competitor (Beats had 70% of the premium headphone market) and took their engineers, tech and music streaming app to fold into their own products. And look where AirPods and Music are now, very successful.

At this stage I don’t think Apple TV has enough good content and they’ve got to work a lot harder to make it a more enticing product. But they’ve got to be in this market. It’s about services, getting your customers to subscribe to your products makes them more “sticky”. The growth of streaming services shows that, and Apple recognises it.

Foundation is coming this year. The catalogue is growing. Apple had a tough year to launch programming. Production on essentially all entertainment took a beating. Their catalogue will grow. HBO and Netflix are good example of “distributors” in their original iteration, showing everybody else’s content/movies. It takes a lot of time. Apple has time, and the pocketbook. If Founation is a hit, that could be a massive draw.

Maybe it’s just me but you would think they would focus on buying movies people actually want to see.
They did. I really want to see this. I’ve been a signed language interpreter and involved with the Deaf community for 26 years, and this movie sent shockwaves of excitement through our community. Heritage users of American Sign Language (children of Deaf adults - codas) have a large international organization (CODA). There is a big audience for a film like this.

Or about half a Dollar from every iPhone they sold during the last quarter.
Or just about 108 minutes of profit from the last quarter.

Point#1:
Think about the company that you work for and the amount of money it makes in 108 minutes (especially in 2020, unless you work for a tech company). I'll bet you see that amount of money wasted on a daily basis because the amount is just too small to track.

Point #2:
Apple can make a whole lot of these bets and you'd have to be a forensic account (or MacRumors reader) to even find these investments.

Apple doesn’t have a problem with people signing up, they can get 1 year of service for free. It’s keeping people that’s the problem. Apple TV+ is doomed if they can’t keep it apolitical and just make content no one can politically pick apart.
Cannot please everyone politically so better to just be even handed and have stuff for everyone.

I just assumed they really bought it for parents and knowledge. I still think it was stupid though.

They need to buy a big franchise like the Marvel Universe on Disney to get people to sign up
You probably got a point but it doesn't work for everyone. I unsubscribed from Disney+, I have no plans on going back even with all their announcements of new shows. Beyond the Mandalorian the only one I have even a passing interest in is Moon Knight. I had Disney+ for a whole year and it was my least-watched app on my Apple TV, which honestly surprised me.

AppleTV+ on the other hand, even though they have way less content have way more shows that do interest me and I watch way more. Lots of "ways" in there but you get my point. Even stuff I thought I wouldn't like I ended up liking, like Ted Lasso, and recently I started watching Tehran, figured it wasn't going to be y cup-o-tea turns out it is pretty great.

I personally am happy Apple has opted for quality over quantity, it'll take longer to get to the quantity part but there will be an audience for that quality.

What you posted is your opinion, not fact.
They are extending “trial” subscriptions because people are not taking up the pay offer. That’s a fact.

That nobody needs the worlds umpteenth TV channel is rather obvious. Like beyond even discussion.

Add Apple level markup to an already oversupplied product with zero barrier to entry and no sugar it’s got no attraction.

Pointless project that the plug should have been pulled on.
