I Hope Apple Pencil pro is more reliable than apple pencil 2. I had to replace couple under apple care, and just bought a cheap one off amazon when I don’t need pressure sensitive stuff.
You are probably right, it's still a really stupid and rude choice on their part. Did we really need the camera swapped that badly to force everyone who wants the new pencil to have to spend $1k+ to get it? No, but the shareholders certainly foamed at the mouth over that idea.
So the Pencil Pro isn’t compatible with previous iPads so now they’re selling 4 different Pencil models. Ridiculous.
I was reaaaaally hoping for a grippy tip to emulate the resistance of a real pencil. Wonder if the nanotexture glass would create a similar effect…?
Why is this Pencil Pro working on the M2 Air and is not working on the M2 Pro? Its absurd.

Answer my own question: Right at bottom it says:
- Apple Pencil hover works with iPad Pro 13‑inch (M4), iPad Pro 12.9‑inch (6th generation), iPad Pro 11‑inch (M4), iPad Pro 11‑inch (4th generation), iPad Air 13‑inch (M2) and iPad Air 11‑inch (M2).
I find it hard to believe Apple couldn't have figured out a way to PUT the magnets in the same place.
So my M2 iPad Pro can’t use the new pencil but the M2 iPad Air can…..because magnets. Screw off!
I believe that is correct... Tech Specs page says USB-C and Pro are the only ones compatible with the new iPad Pro.
Seems pretty crappy that the Apple Pencil Gen 2 doesn't work with the new iPad Pros. I already have one of those from using on a past iPad. Seems like a pure money grab.
Considering now the pencil magnetic charging has to account for an entire camera array, im thinking it wasnt possible.
It's just business. The entire purpose of a business is to make as much money as possible. They aren't a charity.
This discussion doesn’t look serious or experienced artists if they haven’t noticed that companies like Wacom have a dozen stylus and pencils and they are not cross compatible with every tablet. Never was.
It is standard across the tablet and stylus space.
So the new iPads don't support the 2nd gen pencil but you can use the USB-C one without wireless charging. If you happen to have the 2nd gen Pencil and look to get a new iPad Air or Pro, you either have to get a new USB-C Apple Pencil which is a downgrade, or pay up for the Pencil Pro. What a mess.
Yes, it's one of the ********* moves I've ever seen from this company and they do a lot of **** moves. It actually put me off from upgrading at all, I'm keeping my 6 year old Pro until the day it dies.
Only works with m2 and later pros. That's a shame. This was the only thing that really got me excited about the presentation today but I'm not upgrading from my perfectly functional M1 model to get it. Oh well.
Glad they finally figured out somehow after all these years how to get it on the camera on landscape side while still having the magnetic charging on the landscape size, which was alway the challenge and why the camera was so often put on the odd portrait side.

I suspect it doesn't work with previous iPads due to charging, as Apple had to come up with a method to include the Landscape camera and magnetic wireless charging which necessitated a new Apple Pencil.
Searching on Apple website etc. Found answer to my question. If use compare iPad Pro 11 inch vs iPad Air 11 inch on Apple and it says both iPad support all feature of Apple Pencil Pro.

Whelp, it'll be 4 of 5 years until I update my M2 iPad Pro. by then i'm sure theres gonna be a pencil pro ultra... this whole lineup is getting messier and messier.
I thought Apple was trying to be a 'green company'? why no backwards compatibility - i have to buy a new iPad (wasting more materials) to use a new pencil.
