Still no eraser, very disappointing. Why even call it a pencil this is more like a pen.
It's a squeeze to swap to the eraser. A hell of a lot cheaper than having to double up on the sensors in each end. You'd basically need a double-sided pencil just for one function. Would it be cool to twirl the pencil around to erase? Sure. Is it more practical than swapping on the fly? Probably not.

On hearing the recent rumors about the Pencil Pro, many people were quick to comment that the Pro moniker will only serve to sell the Pencil for more money. But now that we know the Pro is going for the same price as the gen 2, there is no acknowledgement from them—except to condemn Apple for not reducing the price of the gen 2.
People never cease to amaze.

They're happiest when slamming Apple. It doesn't matter what it is. Even something as innocuous as a $129 Pencil.

The lack of eraser on the back is similar to the 1-button mouse (or trackpad) problem. Sure you could simulate the right-click by holding down a key on the keyboard (ctrl?), but it was never not cumbersome.

So existing iPad Pro/Air users who already have a Pencil 2 will need to get a NEW pencil if they want to upgrade to the latest Pro. Do I have that right?
Anyone notice it is because the new landscape faceID camera that requires a hardware Apple Pencil change? Thats why the 2nd gen Apple Pencil cannot be charged with the new iPads.

1. Surface simulation. Writing on glass is one of only a few downsides of a digital Pencil, but one that can be overcome by the Taptic Engine simulating a rough surface of paper or brush strokes on a canvas.

Making the pen vibrate constantly even a little while you work is extremely annoying, won't feel like a real surface and drains battery.

Enable 'smoothing' in your paint app. That's why the option exists for stylus users.

The new iPad has an OLED display and a new CPU. Hardly groundbreaking features that would warrant its price jump.
Way to over-simplify, my (wo)man.

The iPad has a new UNIQUE OLED display that goes BRIGHT AF, a new-gen-before-even-Macs-get-them CPU, a new thinner case, a new battery to fit in said case while keeping the same battery life, a repositioned front-facing camera array, a new Pencil charging mechanism (that does not interfere with said camera array), and a new rear-facing camera setup.

The only thing it shares with the previous model is that it's called an iPad.

Damn, man. There is just no pleasing some people.

But no eraser on the end? FFS Apple.
Apple take their time and make lotsa dollars - in a few more generations that will be yet another reason to update...
MS Surface Pro had a pencil (pen?) with an eraser on the end at least 5 years ago. It also had a choice of tips, one of which had some friction to make it feel like you were drawing on paper...
Guess what? It attached to the side of the Pro which had a landscape camera - from day one...
Apple are pathetic in the way they design these accessories, the very first pencil that had to stick out from the iPad to charge it was the most ridiculous design ever, followed by the dopey Magic Mouse.. :(

Yeah, it's a toss up between that original pencil and, well, every mouse Apple's ever made. With the all black Apple TV remote a close third.

And erasers on the end of styluses goes back decades IIRC!

You are probably right, it's still a really stupid and rude choice on their part. Did we really need the camera swapped that badly to force everyone who wants the new pencil to have to spend $1k+ to get it? No, but the shareholders certainly foamed at the mouth over that idea.
Yes, the camera position absolutely needed to be moved.

Is anything known about how Find My works with the Apple Pencil Pro?

Does the APP have a little speaker (like the case of the AirPods Pro 2) to emit a pinging sound?

Does the Find My on APP include precision finding -- if so is this via Ultra-wideband? Does the APP contain a U2 or similar chip?

All marketing fluff. I can guarantee 100% when I see it in person next week it will look just like every other OLED on the market. M4 still trails other processors in the market. Yes it’s energy efficient that’s about to.

Thinner case and 10 hour battery life is not groundbreaking. Should be over 10hrs by now. It’s had that same 10hrs since 2010.

Camera and pencil charging easily moved around in the casing.

Actually it’s losing a whole wide lens camera off the back. So you’re actually losing functionality for a higher price this year.

Yeah I tend to agree and was thinking that at the end of this event. Tim was a Compaq exec and made so much of Apple into what I hated about PC companies. I had the product line fragmentation it’s mostly just greedy and stupid not making the Pencils work across more devices. I would love to get the new Pencil but I’m not ready to part with my M1 iPad Pro yet.

The great product/design led Apple as we knew it under Steve Jobs is dead.

You should read the book After Steve: How Apple Became a Trillion-Dollar Company and Lost Its Soul by Tripp Mickle.

Apple simply has no vision of any product now. After the Apple Watch, Tim and the executive seems to have run out of ideas. I’m the biggest Apple fan among my friends, and now I couldn’t care less about Apple products except occasional iPhone upgrades.

Same I’ve been an Apple fanboy since 2004 when I picked up my first PowerBook G4.

I’ve tried to stay on board but since 2017 onwards with the release of the iPhone X Apple as we knew it has eroded away into what you see today.

That video for the new iPad announcements was terrible. So wooden, rehearsed and woke af. No passion from any of the execs.

How many product managers/directors and designers per product? No wonder the product lineup is a mess.

I'm sorry but PHYSICAL changes have NOTHING to do with marketing.

No, you cannot guarantee that.

Cannot make claims to something is not even out yet. Let's wait for the tests please.

It is when you reduce the amount of space for a battery.

Camera and pencil charging easily moved around in the casing.
HAHAHAHAHA.

Speculative at best, but the camera is not the only reason the price may be higher (I didn't check).

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion on the importance of the changes (only as it applies to you), but not to your own FACTS.

Do a barrel roll!

*aileron roll but hey, Apple are as daft as Peppy and Slippy 😂
